I had been checking and asking around about a couple William Christophers
that were in Cowetta County in 1840. Here is what one of the County
researchers sent me in reply.
- --------------------------
Dear David,
I looked in the Coweta Marriage Book and found three William Christophers,
perhaps all the same, married as follows:
William Christopher married Lilley Story 17 Apr 1834
William Christopher married Eliza Hardy 13 Apr 1837
William Christopher married Susan Hardy 27 Jun 1841
Very interesting.
No will is listed in the Wills (abstracts) Book
The 1840 Census transcription has a William Christopher on page 333 (census
page #) with 1 male 10-15, 1 male 40-50; 2 females 15-20, 1 female 20-30,
and 1 female 40-50.
On page 336 is another William Christopher with 1 male under 5, 1 male
20-30; 1 female under 5, 1 female 20-30.
The 1850 Coweta Census has what is probably the younger William Christopher
as follows:
CHRISTOPHER, William 36 blksm b VA property worth $1,500
Susan 23 b GA
Sarah E. 12 b GA
Columbus 10 b GA
Henry 8 b GA
Obal 7 (m) b GA
Abihu 6 (m) b GA
Zebulon 4 b GA
Luther 1 b GA
--------------------------
additional information
--------------------------
As I read the 1850 census in light of the 1840, it seemed to me that the
younger William Christopher married his wife's sister after the wife
presumably died. The marriage records show two Hardy marriages to a William
Christopher. On a hunch, I looked up the Hardy family in The History of
Coweta County, GA (family history section), and William Christopher did
indeed marry sisters, daughters of Aquila Hardy (a rather prominent early
Cowetan).
"Eliza Hardy was born 2-23-1817 and married 4-13-1837 to William
Christopher, born 11-14-1813, died 10-30-1892, son of William and Lucy Jones
Christopher. Eliza had two children, Emerline Young and Columbus.
"After Eliza died, William married her sister, Susan born 4-5-1827, died
11-5-1921, on 6-27-1841. Their children were Obal; Abikue m. Lona Bridges;
Zebulon; Luther; Lenonra married Z.B. Hardy; Mary married John Shockly; Ella
married Joseph T. Fulcher; Dothula married Sion Sharp; William married.
Lizzie Fittis; Idella married J.D. Trotter; George Edward married Amanda
Ewell Price; Allison married first Sally Rich and seond, Minnie Smith; Rufus
married Zennie Allen; and Joseph married Nannie -----" (page 271)

REWARD!! REWARD!!
William Christopher(1778) and Nancy(Taylor) Christopher had a son named John
Christopher born 1825. The only problem I have is thats ALL the info that I
have on John. I believe John to be my G-G-Grandfather, but I have to find
him somewhere in Georgia with my known family to prove it. Also John's
middle name should begin with the letter A, Alonzo, maybe, Allorenzo? John
A. Christopher(1825) is supposed to have married a Caroline who is from
South Carolina. My G-Grandfather, William Andrew Christopher(1866) s/o?
John(1825) is supposed to have been born in White County Georgia in July
1866. I have to jump to the next census to try and find him. In doing that,
the only Christopher I find in White County is William Kimsey
Christopher(1829) s/o Ambrose Jr.(1794) b/o William(1778), who,(Ambrose Jr.
1794) by the way is married to a Carolina Cantrell from,(you guessed it,
SC). In 1870, she is listed on the census as Cynthia and they happen to have
a son named William A. Christopher born in 1866 in that County, as well as a
son named John born in 1870. weird? If thats not enough, Ambrose Jr.(1794)
also has a son named John Anderson Christopher born in 1824. If the theory
on John A. Christopher(1825) is correct, he could have also been in that
County, he would be William Kimsey's(1829) uncle, but moved on before the
1870 census came around, where, dunno, maybe down to Jackson County, or
Anderson SC? The only John Christopher I turn up in Georgia if I do a census
search on one of the sites that I use for that turns up in Fulton County. If
someone could pull the records on 1870 Fulton and find out who this John
Christopher is, that might solve my missing link. John A. Christopher(1825)
married to a Caroline should have 2 male children, 1 - 4 years old, should
be William(1866), and 1 several months old, should be John
Jr.(1870)............
Now yall see why this tree is so easy to solve? Hope I explained it right?
So now, you ask, what the reward is, well it depends, one, if you are a
member of this Christopher line, your reward will be a new set of branches
to add to your tree, as there are many of us involved in this search. If you
are not part of this line, your reward will be two fold, one, you will see
these repeated messages that I type over and over stop, two, you will see me
change gears and move on to the next set of victims, which might bring forth
some new data, maybe some that will help you in your search, if not, it will
fill your mailbox, give you something to read. At any rate, we all seem
doomed, the messages from here seem endless.
Thanks,
David
PS; Just want to take a minute and say hello to my silent kin over in SC
that are part of this message board. I have brothers Billy(William A.),
Robert M., and sisters Pamela(Pam), and Charlene, as well as a few Georgia
Cousins in here helping with this research, Barbara, Charlene and Cousin
Raymond, as well as several, more distant Georgia Cousins, Jimmy, Linda,
Edith, are all chipping in, couldn't have done this without yall's help,
And I feel sure that in this Christopher search, there are many more of you
out there that run into our same lines as soon as we can make the
connections.
I searched several other States for 1870, the only John Christophers I turn
up are in KY., theres 10, maybe our John went to Ky. for a few years?

This is a chicken and the egg comment, or a catch 22, but anyway, here goes.
Can someone tell why the OLDEST kids in a family seem to get most all of the
family heirlooms? My wife just came from a visit to her older sisters last
night, and her sister has pictures, belongings, and other family items that
others in the family have never even seen. Then on top of that, when this
happens, why is it that the older sibling seems to want to horde all that
they have? I have a few old family pictures, items(which came mostly from
3rd sources, aunts, uncles, few from dad), and the older members of the
family have tried to get these items from me, and probably would have gotten
them if it had not been for my wife objecting, saying that these few items,
should be passed on to our kids. I remember giving some pictures I had of
the family to one of my famiy members so they could make copies of the
pictures, only to never see them again, some 15 years later?
As a parent and grandparent, I can understand some of what happens, as I see
our oldest getting some things because of their age and station in life
where the younger kids aren't ready to be responsible enough, or don't have
the means to take care of some items. And I can understand that an only son
or firstborn has certain rights of passage as the namesake or elder. But in
thinking about it, I want all of my kids to have something from the family
to have and look back on through their lives.
We all know all hell breaks out after a mother or father passes in many
cases with members of the family fighting over who gets what, and sometimes
it ends in brothers and or sisters not talking for long periods of time as a
result.
In some cases, I see the older sibling as a greedy person squandering the
family possessions into a pile of rubbish to be scattered at the city
dumping grounds decades later when there are no other family members present
to glance their family history being tossed into the heap. Sometimes the
person that has all the family possessions with end up not having someone to
pass the baton to, what then?
All I can say is its up to the parents to decide before leaving this world
who gets what, and it should be done with ALL members in mind when possible.
Whats the saying, "Be careful of the toes you step on today, they may be
connected to the butt you have to kiss tomorrow", sometimes this can apply
to families, the bum of the family can later in life turn out to be the best
most respected member your family has produced, so we all need to look at
and provide All of our members with a history that they are able to look
back on with their children and grandchildren. Even if the bum remains a
bum, with some exceptions, he, she, still has family rights, and one of
those rights should be a family history.
Thanks,
David
PS; For every rule, theres an exception, "not", For every exception, theres
a rule...........
