Hello all,
A new Y-DNA match result received last month has revealed a new mystery for
the Christmas family, a mystery that we can collectively help solve.
As we all know, Y-DNA passes from father to son largely unchanged from
generation to generation. Comparing Y-DNA enables us to determine genetic
signatures for our male-line ancestors. My previous Y-DNA match results
have established the Y-DNA signature of Thomas Cross Christmas. Thus, any
of my close Y-DNA matches must descend from the line of Thomas Cross
Christmas.
Interestingly, my most recent close match, a gentleman in his late 80s,
despite having a Y-DNA signature that belongs to Thomas Cross Christmas,
carries the surname Richie. The match's most distant male-line ancestor,
Henry Richie (born 1866 in Ellis County, Texas), was apparently raised by
his maternal grandparents, The Richies. Henry's biological parents remain
unknown.
However, we *can* - using Y-DNA and historical records - work to identify
Henry's father. Over the years, we have generated an expansive Christmas
family tree. We now need to create an extensive *genetic* tree for the
Christmas family to discern which branch begat Henry Richie. This means
crowdsourcing Y-DNA from direct male-line Thomas Cross Christmas
descendants, covering as many branches of the family as possible.
Direct male-line Christmas descendants ought to order the Y-DNA67 test
through The Christopher DNA Project:
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=christopher and supply a
pedigree chart of their Christmas lineage.
Only males can take this type of DNA test.
If you have questions, feel free to contact me directly. The first eligible
person who contacts me and agrees to join the project will receive a
discount code defraying part of the participation cost.
As an aside, I have a photograph of Mr. Henry Richie that I can forward via
email upon request.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Very Respectfully,
Shannon

Hello all,
Last evening, I read an interesting blog post about Elizabeth Chapman
Davis, wife of Thomas H. Christmas and a former student of the Mordecai
Female Academy, a now defunct family-run Warren County (North Carolina)
private school for privileged girls. The blog post includes illuminating
details retrieved from the Mordecai family's archived letters, details that
offer some perspective on the tumultuous marriage of Thomas H. Christmas
and Elizabeth Davis:

I look forward to hearing from you.
Very Respectfully,
