Hello all,
I noticed that a recent post mentioned a mystery regarding the lineage of
Jonathan Christmas of South Carolina. I know some have questioned whether
Jonathan Christmas descends from the same line of Christmases as Thomas
Cross Christmas of Virginia and North Carolina.
Y-DNA testing remains a great way to sort out these ancestral connections.
I encourage any males with the surname Christmas to order a Y-DNA 37-marker
or Y-DNA 67-marker test and join the Christopher DNA project
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/christopher
FamilyTreeDNA (http://www.familytreedna.com/default.aspx), the DNA testing
company that facilitates the project, has a sale that ends tomorrow April
21, 2012; I encourage everyone to take advantage. Aside from the one-day
sale discount, anyone who joins a project when ordering receives an
additional discount.
Very Respectfully,
Mr. Shannon S. Christmas
I had a question on t-shirt sizes. I asked the lady where we're getting the t-shirts to lay one of each size out flat and measure across just under the arm. (These are for adult sizes.) This is her response --
"Tee Shirt Measurements
Small - 18"
Medium - 20"
Large - 22"
XLarge - 24"
2X - 26"
3X - 28"
I didn't have the bigger sizes in stock but by the way the measurements are, they must gain 2" per size."
If anyone who has already sent in t-shirt sizes needs to change them, please let me know.
Thanks, Donna

Interesting note on Jonathan....
[WHT: It is possible Jonathan Christmas was born in Virginia and is related to Thomas Cross Christmas. Thomas was born about 1700 and died in 1769 in Hanover Co., VA. Many of his family settled in the Warren, Granville and Bute Co., NC. Records show a Jonathan Christmas as witness to land transactions in the Chowan Dist., N.C. in 1719-1720. Assuming he had to be 21 years of age to witness a land transaction, this would make his date of birth at least 1698 or earlier. If this was the same Jonathan, he would have been in his mid forties when he married Hester Morton and in his mid fifties when his daughter, Margaret was born in 1753. However, I do not think this is the same Jonathan; maybe his son?

Thanks Tanya. The story of a non-celebrity family would likely increase the appeal of "Finding Your Roots."

>Hello everyone!
> I just blocked some hotel rooms for those planning to attend the Christmas in July Family Reunion on July 21, 2012, in Santa Claus, Indiana. I blocked rooms for the evening of July 20 and 21st. You are responsible for making your own hotel reservations and for paying for them.
>
> They will only hold the blocked rooms until June 22. After that date, you'll likely have to pay normal price. The lady at the Hampton Inn said their rooms for July are generally gone by the first of May (June and July are their busy months because of the poularity of Holiday World and Splashin' Safari). So don't wait to book your rooms --even those which I've blocked, as I've called several newspapers in counties where I know lots of Christmases live, to help spread the word! I'm hoping for a big response! I've blocked rooms at the Holiday Inn Express in Jasper (30 minutes from Santa Claus) and the Comfort Inn & Suites in Rockport (25 miles south of Santa Claus, Indiana).
>
>Holiday Inn Exprss in Jasper -- phone #812-482-3344 (about 30 minutes from Santa Claus, IN). They only had 2 rooms with king size beds which I blocked along with 18 rooms with queen size beds. They are $109 plus tas each night, for a total of $122.08 each night. The normal price for these rooms is $129 plus tax -- so that is a $20 a night savings derived by blocking them. She said it is a new hotel with air conditioning and full hot breakfasts. When reserving rooms here, ask for a room in the Christmas Family Reunion Block.
>
>Comfort Inn and Suites, Rockport - phone #812-649-2979 (20 minutes south of Santa Claus, IN) I reserved 12 rooms with King size beds ($100 plus tax a night for a 2-night stay). 1 handicap room with 2 queen size beds and 7 rooms containing two queen size beds. ($110 plus tax each night for a 2-night stay.) Normal price for these are $115 plus tax for the King size and $125 plus tax for the queen size ($15 a night savings per night for a 2-night stay). Ask for a room in the Christmas Family Reunion Block (Group Code 836816).
>
>You might be able to find something less expensive. I did not block rooms at Santa's Lodge. Their rooms started at $149 plus tax each night. If you care to reserve a room there, the phone no is 812-937-1902. I did not block rooms at the Best Western Lincolnland Inn in Dale (10 minutes away); their starting rate was $152 plus tax each night.
>
>And the Hampton Inn (1-812-481-1888) starts at $118 plus tax each night. They do not give discounts with blocked rooms during the months of June and July (busy season because of popularity of Holiday World and Splashin'Safari). I did not see an advantage of blocking their rooms since they wouldn't give us a discount. Remember tho, they said they are generally booked solid for rooms in July by the first of May.
>
>Cabins at Lincoln State Park would be ideal except they only book for periods of one week until a month prior to the date of stay. Then, they will only book for a minimum of 2 nights. They are 2 bedroom cabins and sleep 6. Admission to the park is $7 per car. Rental rates are something like $70 per night plus tax.
