Hello all,
Someone listed Sarah King as the wife of Thomas Cross Christmas (1689-1769)
in their pedigree chart. Has anyone, during the course of their research,
encountered a document that proves that Sarah King was the wife of Thomas
Cross Christmas?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Very Respectfully,
Mr. Shannon S. Christmas

Subject: [CHRISTMAS] NEWLY DISCOVERED BRANCH OF THE CHRISTMAS FAMILY
Hello all,
Through a recent search of FamilySearch.com for documents associated with
the surname Christmas in North Carolina, I have uncovered an otherwise
unknown branch of the Warren County, North Carolina Christmases.
A death certificate and marriage record for an African-American woman named
Chaney Christmas Alston of Warrenton and Raleigh, North Carolina indicate
that she was the daughter of William Duke Christmas (son of William
Christmas and Jane Yancey) and Jennie, a slave owned by the Christmas
family. The 1910 death
certificate<https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11584-164147-79?cc=
1609799>lists
Chaney's father and mother as "W.D. Christmas" and "Jennie Christmas,"
respectively. The marriage
record<https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F8Q8-BTL> lists Chaney
Christmas' husband as an Isaac Alston.
The wills and estate papers of Capt. John Green and Jane Yancey (listed as
Jane Green in the Warren County Will Book) appear to substantiate Chaney's
parentage. Of the slaves Jane owned at the time of her death, Chaney and
Chaney's children are among the few slaves that appear in Jane's 1845
will<https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-20061-37664-2?cc=1867501&
wc=10924013>;
Jane bequeathed Chaney and her family to William Duke Christmas. This
information appears to support the theory that William Duke Christmas
fathered Chaney and that William's mother, Jane, cognizant of the
relationship, worked to keep the family unit intact. Estate documents for
Capt. John Green reveal that, after John Green's death in 1825, Jane entered
into arbitration with her step-son, Thomas E. Green, to retain ownership of
Jinny (Jennie), Adeline, and China (Chaney). The same three slaves were
bequeathed to Jane by Jane's daughter, Mary L. Christmas, just a few years
prior to John Green's death. The same three slaves are also recorded
together as Big Janey, Adeline, and Chaney in the inventory of Mary L.
Christmas' estate.
I am now in contact with one of Chaney's living descendants, an Ancestry.com
subscriber who has shared much of her family's history with me.
Very Respectfully,
Mr. Shannon S. Christmas

Hello everyone!
I just blocked some hotel rooms for those planning to attend the Christmas in July Family Reunion on July 21, 2012, in Santa Claus, Indiana. I blocked rooms for the evening of July 20 and 21st. You are responsible for making your own hotel reservations and for paying for them.
They will only hold the blocked rooms until June 22. After that date, you'll likely have to pay normal price. The lady at the Hampton Inn said their rooms for July are generally gone by the first of May (June and July are their busy months because of the poularity of Holiday World and Splashin' Safari). So don't wait to book your rooms --even those which I've blocked, as I've called several newspapers in counties where I know lots of Christmases live, to help spread the word! I'm hoping for a big response! I've blocked rooms at the Holiday Inn Express in Jasper (30 minutes from Santa Claus) and the Comfort Inn & Suites in Rockport (25 miles south of Santa Claus, Indiana).
Holiday Inn Exprss in Jasper -- phone #812-482-3344 (about 30 minutes from Santa Claus, IN). They only had 2 rooms with king size beds which I blocked along with 18 rooms with queen size beds. They are $109 plus tas each night, for a total of $122.08 each night. The normal price for these rooms is $129 plus tax -- so that is a $20 a night savings derived by blocking them. She said it is a new hotel with air conditioning and full hot breakfasts. When reserving rooms here, ask for a room in the Christmas Family Reunion Block.
Comfort Inn and Suites, Rockport - phone #812-649-2979 (20 minutes south of Santa Claus, IN) I reserved 12 rooms with King size beds ($100 plus tax a night for a 2-night stay). 1 handicap room with 2 queen size beds and 7 rooms containing two queen size beds. ($110 plus tax each night for a 2-night stay.) Normal price for these are $115 plus tax for the King size and $125 plus tax for the queen size ($15 a night savings per night for a 2-night stay). Ask for a room in the Christmas Family Reunion Block (Group Code 836816).
You might be able to find something less expensive. I did not block rooms at Santa's Lodge. Their rooms started at $149 plus tax each night. I did not block rooms at the Best Western Lincolnland Inn in Dale (10 minutes away); their starting rate was $152 plus tax each night.
And the Hampton Inn (1-812-481-1888) starts at $118 plus tax each night. They do not give discounts with blocked rooms during the months of June and July (busy season because of popularity of Holiday World and Splashin'Safari). I did not see an advantage of blocking their rooms since they wouldn't give us a discount. Remember tho, they said they are generally booked solid for rooms in July by the first of May.
Cabins at Lincoln State Park would be ideal except they only book for periods of one week until a month prior to the date of stay. Then, they will only book for a minimum of 2 nights. They are 2 bedroom cabins and sleep 6. Admission to the park is $7 per car. Rental rates are something like $70 per night plus tax.
SO MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS SOON!
Hope to see you in July -- Donna
