Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Dear Family:
After speaking with Mr. Mark Toler of Toler Monuments on 9 September, I emailed him location, directions and photos of the William Christmas Cemetery. I've spoken with him since to make sure he received my email and photos. He has.
He says that a visit to the William Christmas Cemetery is on his calendar.
When he informs me of his findings, I will let you all know.
Thank you for your continued patience.
Be well,
Dale
Hi Dale,
Glad to hear you gracefully weathered the storm. Thank you for following up on this project.
LYC's headstone is broken and needs to be repaired and reset, but I am not sure there's anything that can or should be done for Jane's headstone; it is still standing but over the centuries the stone has acquired a few age spots. Both headstones have been transcribed. If anything, I think it best to preserve the original stones if possible and perhaps have a new marker that clarifies the almost illegible epitaphs on both headstones.
Also, LYC's grave appears sunken in with a strange stone border that is halfway in the ground; the grave looks more like a shallow pit. Given the condition of his grave and the fact that Greenwood Cemetery has vaulted graves for all of the interred, I think this area may have a high water table and/or be part of a floodplain. If my theory is correct, than additional provisions may be needed to preserve the cemetery and ensure the graves are not compromised by the elements.
Thank you again for keeping us abreast of all that is happening with this project.
Mr. Shannon S. Christmas

I explained that our family was interested in finding/hiring a local business/businessperson or group that might clean up a small, local family cemetery. Later on I got a call-back from a librarian, Ms. Cheryl Reddish and she was very helpful.

Mr. Hunter (Clerk, Warren County Superior Court & Warrenton historian) recommends Toler Monuments, 1658 US 1 Hwy N, Warrenton, NC (252.456.3592) as a company that might be able to clean (replace?) the headstones and tidy the William Christmas Cemetery. It sounds as if we are interested in just cleaning for now, yes? Please advise.

Hello all,
Hopefully, you are enjoying your Labor Day. A number of you had sought more
information from me regarding The Christmas-Green-Newell House, the original
home of Capt. Thomas Christmas
<http://christmas.whturner.com/tccg05.htm#15>and Sarah Duke of Warren
County, North Carolina. I have found directions to
the home buried in my inbox.
When coming south from Warrenton on State Route 1001 (aka Martin Luther King
Highway), it's located on Dena Road, a private road that is on the right
side of State Route 1001 directly across from the Warrenton Department of
Transportation.
I only wish I had recovered these directions prior to our reunion in July. I
have posted photos of the now dilapidated house, taken by another Christmas
descendant this past March, on Flickr:

Very Respectfully,
Mr. Shannon S. Christmas
Shannon,
Great pictures!! They won't let me get them.. I sure would like them since that is my husband's line.

Dear Family:
I am on vacation for the next two weeks.
During this downtime, I will look into how we might begin a clean-up and perhaps obtain perpetual care for the LYC graves.
I will also try to get an idea of what a headstone repair or replacement might cost.
When someone has a moment, please e- me with the exact location of the graves.
Thank you ever so,
Dale
