Those of us, that has researched the Jonathan Christmas line from
South Carolina, lost a good friend and fellow researcher last Friday,
December 23, 2011. Jacgueline "Jackie" Wade Thames Baker died at her
home in Sumter, SC; she was 81. Her Christmas line is at:
In 1989 or 90, on a trip to the Sumter Co. Genealogical Society, the
volunteer ask what surnames I was researching, and when I mentioned
Christmas, she said I should talk to Jackie Baker. The volunteer
called Jackie, and she invited my wife, Annette and I to her home. In
her den/sunroom, she showed us the 64 large books/files on her
individual ancestors; this was before computers became common. We
spend several hours going through some of the books, and she could
not have been more gracious or helpful. During the 90s, we visited a
number of times, and she was always most helpful, and I always left
wishing I had more time to visit. Just a very nice lady.
Below is part of her obituary:
"Active in the community, Baker was one of the 33 charter members of
the Sumter Genealogical Society, where she was also an active
volunteer for many years, assisting countless families from around
the country in researching and documenting their family lineage.
Always proud of her South Carolina heritage, Jackie was a member of
the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Huguenot Society, First
Families of South Carolina, and the Jamestowne Society. Baker's love
of music was evident in her role as a beloved piano teacher, where
she taught many of Sumter's young people the disciplines and valuable
skills associated with music. She also taught music at area
kindergartens and entertained the residents of National Health Care
and Solomon's Home, where she resided for the last chapter of her life."
Yes. I would think the appropriate thing to do is find out how many will
contribute and divide the $100 by that amount. The cost was $100.

How will this be done. Are you finding out how many will contribute and
dividing the total by that number? What is the total expected to be?

Hello all,
I will contribute as well.
On a related note, I added the William Christmas Cemetery to findagrave.com:

Hi Dale,
Thank you for putting the money up. I would like to know who is interested
in contributing to the cost so that you don't have to bear the cost alone.
I am of course willing to contribute. If everyone contributes, it should
not amount to much.
Tanya

>>>Mark your calendars! I've just reserved the Celebration Room in Santa's Lodge at Santa Claus, Indiana, for Saturday, July 21, 2012. We've decided to have a one-day event on Saturday with a worship service (Protestant) outside on Sunday morning, for those who would like to join us. The conference room has a little foyer as you step in from the parking lot with rest rooms on both sides. This seems ideal for changing into our Christmas t-shirts; just remember, Ladies, to wear two-piece attire. The date and place is all that is definitely decided as of now, but I'll keep you posted. I would appreciate it if you would let me know now if you tentatively plan to attend and the number of adults and children you plan to bring. It's really hard to plan, not knowing how many to expect and how much money I will have to work with. (But I won't spend it until I actually get it -- other than for the conf. room.) I'm resending my initial letter about our plans for the Christmas in July reunion at Santa Claus, Indiana, as I had an e-mail from a distant cousin (who is on the Christmas mailing list) asking about plans for our Christmas reunion -- he had not received the e-mail. Do you suppose Spam is eating them up because of the subj line? Anyway, I've decided to change the subject line. I haven't made any additional plans, as I have only received one affirmative e-mail in response to it. (another reason I'm wondering if everyone got it.) More later -- Donna
