Hi all:
I located information regarding Lewis Yancey Christmas's home in
Warren County, NC. William Duke Jones inherited Lewis Yancey
Christmas's plantation, known as Melrose Plantation, per Christmas's
will. The William Duke Jones family, including his descendants through
his daughter Bettie Ann Jones Davis, inhabited the property for years
until the home was devastated by fire. Below is a link to a photo of
Melrose Plantation; the photo is currently posted on the Davis family
website.
http://www.davisfw.com/genealogy/bajanc/images/7ef06.jpg
Also, I received a photograph of Lewis Yancey Christmas's and Jane
Yancey Christmas Green's headstones from a Warren County historian.
Both graves are located on the site of Melrose Plantation. The photos
include written directions to the grave site, which has been referred
to as the "William Christmas Cemetery" in archived county documents.
"Directions to cemetery: Travel from Warrenton on State Road #1001 -
Martin Luther King Blvd. for 3.1 miles. Turn right onto Cooper Drive.
Go one tenth mile and turn left. Travel a short distance to cemetery
on right - It is enclosed with a rock wall and abandoned in a clump of
small trees, vines, and briars."
I hope to have the cemetery photos in digital format soon to
facilitate sharing. As an aside, a number of sources indicate that the
cemetery has been in poor condition and deserves corrective action
Best,
Shannon
I am the Great-Grandson of Lewis Yancey Christmas.

The Charles H. above and Absolom Jackson Christmas were
sons of
Absalom Christmas, Jr. Both of these sons died in the Civil
War. It
appears Absolom Jackson
had no children, and Charles H. had three - John G., Sarah
B. and
Charles. It appears that their mother, Hulda Louise
Hambright or her
family moved them to Yell and
Perry Co., AR by 1880. It also appears that both John G.
and his
brother, Charles each had a son, named Charles. I have no
information
on their sister, Sarah.
Anything you see on the web page that needs changing or
corrected,
please let me know. Christmas web page address: http://christmas.whturner.com/
Roll Call:
We have about a 100 members on the Christmas List. In 2009
we had
about 25 messages to the List and 40 in 2008. Many of those
messages
were about web page
updates, and new members. Each week, the List gets at least
20
messages, 99% spam, some weeks a lot more, which Rootsweb
kicks back
to me to approve, discard,
ban from list, and send to spam filter for each message.
This can get
to be a pain, if you are busy, and let it go a week or so.
For the Roll Call, please include your line, and any
research
problems you have. Not required, but certainly appreciated,
any
Christmas information outside your line,
which might be helpful to others.
I have been doing this since 1997, and I will be happy to
continue,
if we can get more participation.
Best regards,
Herbert

Thank you, Herbert, for all you do with the web page. We're all indebted
to you for your efforts.
My line runs two ways:
Jonathan 463
John 418

My current Christmas research challenge is confirming that Nathaniel
Theodore Christmas was the son of Nathan. I'll be at the National Archives
again to review the 1870 and 1880 census for Dooly County (apparently not
readily available online), to see if I can improve my confidence. Perhaps I'll
make it there a couple of nights this week and next. I was in last week to
renew my researcher card and update my printer card.
Lately we've been compiling our family history research in Family Tree
Maker. After years of gathering paper, we're finally getting really organized
on computer.
I hope you're doing well.

Love to be included ... here's what Christmas' I have so far. I'd

Herbert,
The new web page is great. This is the best yet. I love the white plain
textured back ground. It gives a nice crisp contrast that is easy to read. I
have had fun today reading and renewing my knowledge of the
Christmas/Christmus families. I have also found new information that excited me and gives
me the desire to start doing more research on this line.
As always, I thank you for your devotion to researching this family and
making this available to everyone. We all owe you so much for the enormous
amount of work and help you have given us.
And to Annette, God bless you. You not only have to put up with your
husband's love of genealogy but he has dragged you into it also. Your large
workload on this project is very much appreciated.
Always,
Sarah Froemming
.
Hello everybody!! I did not know that I had so many relatives. My daddy was John Robert Christmas b 1918, son of 8th generation Robert Lloyd Christmas.......1st generation Thomas Cross Christmas.
Thanks for the research and I look forward to knowing more.
A reunion sounds wonderful as I would love for my daughters and grandchildren to know more about their Christmas ancestors and current relatives.

The Charles H. above and Absolom Jackson Christmas were sons of
Absalom Christmas, Jr. Both of these sons died in the Civil War. It
appears Absolom Jackson
had no children, and Charles H. had three - John G., Sarah B. and
Charles. It appears that their mother, Hulda Louise Hambright or her
family moved them to Yell and
Perry Co., AR by 1880. It also appears that both John G. and his
brother, Charles each had a son, named Charles. I have no information
on their sister, Sarah.
Anything you see on the web page that needs changing or corrected,
please let me know. Christmas web page address: http://christmas.whturner.com/
Roll Call:
We have about a 100 members on the Christmas List. In 2009 we had
about 25 messages to the List and 40 in 2008. Many of those messages
were about web page
updates, and new members. Each week, the List gets at least 20
messages, 99% spam, some weeks a lot more, which Rootsweb kicks back
to me to approve, discard,
ban from list, and send to spam filter for each message. This can get
to be a pain, if you are busy, and let it go a week or so.
For the Roll Call, please include your line, and any research
problems you have. Not required, but certainly appreciated, any
Christmas information outside your line,
which might be helpful to others.
I have been doing this since 1997, and I will be happy to continue,
if we can get more participation.
Best regards,
Herbert

I hope that I'm still on the roll-call but I must admit that because my
ancestors emigrated straight from Surrey to New Zealand, I don't get a lot
out of this rootsweb becuse it seems to be mostly American interests. Does
anyone know of a Rootsweb devoted to UK and British Dominions, to where UK
pioneers emigrated?
Kind regards,

The Charles H. above and Absolom Jackson Christmas were sons of
Absalom Christmas, Jr. Both of these sons died in the Civil War. It
appears Absolom Jackson
had no children, and Charles H. had three - John G., Sarah B. and
Charles. It appears that their mother, Hulda Louise Hambright or her
family moved them to Yell and
Perry Co., AR by 1880. It also appears that both John G. and his
brother, Charles each had a son, named Charles. I have no information
on their sister, Sarah.
Anything you see on the web page that needs changing or corrected,
please let me know. Christmas web page address: http://christmas.whturner.com/
Roll Call:
We have about a 100 members on the Christmas List. In 2009 we had
about 25 messages to the List and 40 in 2008. Many of those messages
were about web page
updates, and new members. Each week, the List gets at least 20
messages, 99% spam, some weeks a lot more, which Rootsweb kicks back
to me to approve, discard,
ban from list, and send to spam filter for each message. This can get
to be a pain, if you are busy, and let it go a week or so.
For the Roll Call, please include your line, and any research
problems you have. Not required, but certainly appreciated, any
Christmas information outside your line,
which might be helpful to others.
I have been doing this since 1997, and I will be happy to continue,
if we can get more participation.
Best regards,
Herbert

Hello Christmas Family,
I am Shana Carter, I am following my husbands line from Lewis Yancey
Christmas, Erasmus Christmas, Caldonia Carter, Marie Carter (my husbands
grandmother). I get busy being Mom's taxi a lot of the time but still have an
interest pursing my husbands family. Thank -you for the wonderful resource you
have provided. I felt like I hit the jackpot when I found this web site
Shana Carter
_ICry2(a)aol.com_ (mailto:ICry2@aol.com)
PS. my biggest problem is keeping straight the Hawkins Carter's I think I
have it now, but it gets confusing..
Good morning, Herbert:
I, too, appreciate all the time and effort you have devoted to this project.
I am a descendant from the Christmases that migrated to Louisiana (Spanish West Florida) sometime in the mid- to late-1730s. In years past, I have completed a fair amount of research of this line, but in more recent times have been unable to devote time to continuing that research. I am hoping to be able to return to the research this summer and will certainly provide you with any infomation I have, or will have.
My Christmas line is as follows:
Rodney Hastings (Me)
Marion Janet Newman (mother)
Dortha Elenora White (grandmother)
Hattie Edna Christmas (great-grandmother)
Leon Winfield ("Gen. Lee" ) Christmas (great-great-grandfather)
Winfield Scott Christmas (great-great-great-great-grandfather)
Henry C. Christmas (great-great-great-great-great-grandfather)
Richard Christmas (6x great-grandfather)
[I'm working from memory at this time, but think that I got all of that correct].

Hello Herbert,
Hope you are doing well and are playing lots of golf.
Please keep me on the list. I'm off wandering (and sometimes lost) in
the branches of my other family trees, but I do always return to check
on my CHRISTMAS tree (no pun intended).
Here's my line:
Me
Horace Richard Christmas-(father)
Ernest Christmas-grandfather
William Anderson Christmas-g-grandfather
William (George?) Christmas-gg-grandfather
Nathan Christmas-3-grandfather
George (William?) Christmas-4-grandfather
William Christmas-5-grandfather
Jonathan Christmas-6-grandfather
I'm about to retire from Augusta State University, so please change my
email address to: mcpeel(a)yahoo.com
Thanks for all you do.
Love ya,
~Merry

Good Morning. My name is Debbie Erickson. My grandfather was Cecil Christmas of Superior, WI My mother and her siblings were named Joy, Merry and Carol.
Cecil's father came from somewhere in Canada. Herbert tried to help pinpoint 2 men that were born 5 yrs apart in Canada. I don't really have enough info to know which gentleman was my great grandfather. Due to financial and time contraints I never went further in my research. Maybe down the road when I'm retired I'll have the time. LOL!
