Hi Barbara,
Thanks so much for your answer. I would truly appreciate the name of the
Chritmas data keeper and his email address when you find it! I know what
that is like! Piles of paper everywhere....
I neglected to tell you Mary is my great great great grandmother, who had an
extremely hard life but also quite an interesting one I think. I am happy
to tell you if you would be interested. I am in touch with several of her
descendents throughout Australia.
Kind regards,
Ann Belmont
Adelaide, S.A.

Things get a bit muddy in London! My family were in the City of London
[Cripplegate] and then the Shoreditch area - Holywell Row, due north of Shoe
Lane. They went to Wimbledon much later. So they were not too far from your
lady.
They had a Mary Ann in 1784. , and another one in 1807. But then who did
not!! It was a very popular name. One mother Isabella and the other Hannah.
There were a lot of Christmases in London. There may be a link I have not
yet discovered. Do you have her father's name? My family were in woodwork,
so might easily have links. But there seem to have been quite a lot of
Christmases in London. I think mine were descended from Joseph and Isabella,
who amrried in St Giles, Cripplegate in 1778.
What might help you is to contact the Christmas data keeper, who took over
from Brian Christmas. Of course I cannot find his name and email address.
Now to hunt, as I have stuff to give him myself. Will let you have it when I
can.
Not much help, as I can't go back further myself.
Best wishes
Barbara

Nancy......... I appreciate your support but in these cases the children all
kept their mother's name (Christmas.....not their father's....McGoldrick)
....plus the mother's maiden name (Christmas) was listed on all of the
censuses.....not her husband's. We also know that in the case of my wife's
grandfather, Thomas Allen Christmas...that his mother Matilda Christmas was
definitely not married to Thomas Allen's father, Thomas McGoldrick.

Many marriages were lost. They may have had some sort of marriage
ceremony,
but no record remains.

Hallo Barbara,
Welcome to the list, which I am afraid is not very active.
I cannot help you with your Christmas family, but at this stage you may be
able to help me with mine.
Mary Christmas was born probably in 1770 in London, England, died May 1830
in Hobart, Tasmania, buried 28 May 1830 in St David's Church of England,
Hobart, Tasmania. Mary Christmas (also known as Cowcher/Crowcher) was tried
in London on 24 Oct 1787 for trying to pawn a silver spoon claiming it was
her fathers. Her father was a plasterer who lived in Shoe Lane.
I think that Mary's mother Sarah Christmas was widowed and married George
Cowcher which is why Mary used both names. I have had a researcher in
London help me, but she was able to rule out quite a bit of information, but
could not give me much positive information.
Have you gone back far enough to be able to help me? Were your family
always in Wimbledon?
Would love to hear from you.
Kind regards,
Ann Belmont

I believe you are right about T. A. S. born out of wedlock. His mother ,
Matilda Christmas was a sister to Arthur Woodson Christmas. I have the

Robert H Scarbrough was a descendant of William Scarbrough whose son
Jonathon fathered Epicurean 'Eppie" Scarbrough, who fathered Mary Magdalene
Scarbrough who married Thomas Jefferson Pritchett and produced Dorcus who
married T. A. Christmas. I have some information on the McGoldricks that I
will send later. You have clarified my thinking on the mother of T A. It
became obvious to me when I went back and looked at 1910 census for all
three families. Tell me about Rachel Williams who married R L Christmas in
Morgan County Tn. 11May 1883 . I am giving up on W W Christmas father
unless you have further info. I knew a granddaughter of W W (daughter of
Arthur) and we became close friends about 1938 but who cares about a girls

Seeking information on Thomas McGoldrick (McGouldrick) and Matilda Christmas
who apparently co-habitated and produced the following children: Thomas
Allen Christmas, James Orlando Christmas, Holt Christmas, Susan Christmas,
and Mary Christmas. (Grainger and Morgan Co., TN)
I need Matilda Christmas’ upline through her mother Elizabeth Christmas, who
lived with a John Phillips. Matilda Christmas’ siblings were: Marridy
Christmas, William Woodson Christmas, and Jane Christmas. Yes…..apparently
marriage wasn’t that important to these folks at this time.
This is my wife’s lineage and she keeps telling me to quit
looking…..apparently they were all a bunch of b------s. Really hard to track
when nobody got married!

We are having a snow storm here. Roads are being closed right and left here. The snow is very wet and temp in the low 30's. No one knows how to drive in it here. They have had several accidents and advising everyone to stay off the roads.
My phone is dead, which amazes me that I have Internet service since DSL goes over the phone line!!!
