Hello All,
I found the this reference and was hoping someone might have a copy of the
lawsuit that they could forward.
Appreciate any help.
Thanks, Anna
List,
I am searching for Pat and Bob Christmas. They had 4 children, 2 of their names are known - Robin & Bobby. The children were born from the late 1950s to late 1960s. They lived at 6 East Seltzer Street in Philadelphia in the mid 60's to the mid 70's and they had 2 big dogs. (St. Bernard?)
Pat is somehow related to Linda Castro Myers, my friends Mother. Linda was born September 27, 1950 and was killed October 15, 1969 when my friend was 3. Linda was just 19.
Pat is somehow related to Linda Castro Myers (cousin?). Linda lived on East Silver Street on the even side closer towards A Street and may have attended school at B & Allegheny Streets.
At the time of her death, Linda was married to Ron Myers. He attended Mastbaum High School. (Bob Christmas may have as well.)
Lindas Mother Anna Weist Castro was remarried at the time of Lindas funeral in October 1969. Her second husbands name is unknown.
I am searching for Pat & Bob Christmas's family in hopes that they may have more information or even a photo of Linda!
Hope this sparks a memory!
Teresa
Dear Christmas family:
Our recent roll call has renewed an interest in our familys history.
I am seeking information about the property of Mary L. Christmas [119]
(c.1796- July 1821). Upon her death, she gave my ggg-grandmother, a
slave, Yellow Jennie/Jinny to her brother, my ggg-grandfather, Lewis
Yancey Christmas. I am seeking information about Mary L.'s
acquisition of slaves.
I am a librarian at the Newark (NJ) Public Library and fortunately have
access to valuable resources. I have requested the death notice for
Mary L. Christmas from several NC libraries. (does anyone have this?)
Her will was prepared just a few months prior to her death. She was
about 25 when she died. (What was her cause of death?)
If anyone can answer the following, please contact me. Please forward
suggestions on how I can find the information:
--According to a Graves family website,
(http://www.gravesfa.org/gen169.htm) a Mary L. Christmas was married to
a John Davis on 13 April 1815 in Warren County. Is this Mary L.
Christmas mentioned here Mary L. [119] the sister of Lewis Yancey
Christmas? This John Davis died in 1820 and if this is in fact Mary L.
[119], perhaps she became the owner of all of his property including
slaves after he husband died.
--Would she have resumed using her maiden name after her husband's
death? (If John Davis was her husband...)
--Mary L. was not the oldest child, her brother William D. was yet, she
owned at least ten slaves according to her will. Was (wasnt) this
unusual for an unmarried daughter to be a property owner when there was
an older unmarried brother, William D.?
--Where would I try to get records of these transactions, these slave
bills of sale?
If anyone has this information, I would greatly appreciate hearing from
you.
If anyone can suggest how I should go about obtaining bills of sale or
property records, please advise.
Thanks ever so.
Peace & Love,
Dale

I am descended from Thomas Christmas born about 1700 and died in 1769 in
Hanover Co., VA.
Through son, Thomas Christmas and wife, Temperance Whitlock
" " William Christmas and Elizabeth Ford Jenkins m 5-23-1790 in NC
" " Ed Christmas and Nancy Ann Miller m 3-28-1829 in Logan Co, KY
" " John Christmas/Mary E. Watkins (John died Pike Co IN, 1916)
" " Benjamin E. Christmas/Lucy Goodman m 1-14-1874, Butler Co, KY
" " John Allen Christmas/Rutha Florence Clem, died-Pike County, IN
John and Rutha Clem Christmas were my grandparenets.
Mary Jean Christmas Wooten is my sister
Joyce Truitt is my cousin (also a granddaughter of John & Rutha Christmas)
(Joyce recently broke her arm. I'm sure typing is difficult for her.)

A couple of my biggest problems:
1. Where did this SC Jonathan Christmas come from; who are his parents? We
have about 11,000 of his descendants in our files.
It is possible Jonathan Christmas was born in Virginia and is related to
Thomas Christmas. Thomas was born about 1700 and died in 1769 in Hanover
Co., VA. Many of his family settled in the Warren, Granville and Bute Co.,
NC. Records show a Jonathan Christmas as witness to land transactions in
the Chowan Dist., NC in 1719-1720.
1725/26 Bath Co. NC Inventory of Thomas Boyd mentions Jonathan Christmas.
Assuming he had to be 21 years of age to witness a land transaction, this
would make his date of birth at least 1698 or earlier. If this was the same
Jonathan, he would have been in his mid forties when he married Hester
Morton and in his mid fifties when his daughter, Margaret was born in 1753.
However, I do not think this is the same Jonathan; maybe his son?
Jonathan probably migrated to Craven County, SC, which covered a large area
of SC, in the late 1720's. Jonathan's land grant of 1731 was in Craven
Co., probably outside Georgetown Co. or in what is now Williamsburg Co. The
coastal areas (Charleston, Georgetown Co.) were developed first and
development in the Sumter & Clarendon Co. areas did not begin until
1740. From where he came, I do not know, but possibly from VA through NC.
The first land grant to a Jonathan was in 1731 and the last record I have
found was in 1755.
2. The connection between Nathan4, George3, William2, especially William2
is very iffy. Of Jonathan Christmas and Hester Morton's 4 children, a lot
of found on John, but very little on William, Samuel and Margaret. There
are 1770 land records for William and Samuel, but I've found nothing else.
Help on these problems will be much appreciated. I would really like to
remove a lot of these "maybe" "possible" "probable" "assumption" from the
records, but I guess they are why we continue to do research.

I don't have very much, but if anyone else has stubbled upon this line I
would love to hear from you. I haven't picked this up is such a long time. I
am a descendant of Elizabeth T. Christmas born in Livingston Parish, Louisiana
(most probably) on February 12, 1820. She married a Thomas Morrison.
Family history has said that she was related to the famous Lee Christmas. The
only link I have is that Elizabeth Christmas named her first son Henry
Christmas Morrison. Henry Christmas Sr. was the son of Thomas Christmas and Rebekah
Taylor Christmas.
Thanks,
Hi Herbert,
With regards to the DNA testing in England, I contacted Oxford Ancestors in
England that was performing the testing - just to see if we could trace our
ancestors back in the UK. I received the package and information for the
testing but have not completed it.
Here is the email I received from Oxford Ancestors regarding the DNA testing
for the Christmas ancestry.
For reference, here is the original link to the BBC article.

I don't know if it is necessary to have one set up in the States because
your work is so comprehensive and the records have been relatively well
kept.

Hi Shirl,
Several months ago, someone forward a email about one in England, think Mr.
Harry Christmas was
in charge. The email address I had for Harry Christmas was old, and my
message did not go through.
I do not know of one in the USA; perhaps someone on the list has more info
on this subject.

HI. I just took another trip down memory lane with my mother. She was recalling another detail from her childhood. When Carol and Merry had their annual newpaper photo published, they would get a telephone call from some young male Christmas descendants living in Illinois. My mother says she does not remember the young boys names. She doesn't remember if she was in grade school or in high school. All she remembers is talking in Wisconsin to some boys in Illinois around the Holidays. The calls continued for a few years then ceased. Since Carol was born in 1935, it's my guess the calls may have been in the mid 1940's. Since news wasn't as instantly global as it is now, she wonders how these kids knew of the photographs. When calling, they would say they saw the photo from that year, so we know the pics were seen by them. If anyone on this list knows any further details, I'm all ears! LOL!!
I don't have anything new yet. Working the migration through people who
knew him mostly. I will be sure and forward my results when I can get them into
some kind or order.
Thanks for writing and I hope someday we will have some england county info
that your friend could help us make the connection with.
Have a great day,
Anna

Dear Anna, if you are going backwards with your Jonathan Christmas line,
have you had any luck as I descend from this line also.? I have a connection in
England who would be glad to look up something for us on this line if she knew
the county he or his parents were from. thanks Joan
Hello Everyone. I came to this list about a year ago. I didn't get very far in my research due to time and money. I tried one search site and they wanted a subscription fee. I did pay for my grandfathers death certificate and it didn't yield anymore info than I had already known. Sigh.
I am Debbie Erickson, 49 years old, born in Superior Wisconsin. My mother's maiden name was Christmas. She was born in Superior on March 17, 1935 as Carol Ann Christmas. Carol is still alive and living in Superior. Carol had a younger sister named Joy and an older sister named Merry. Yes, her parents chose to spell her name "Merry Christmas" and it was a huge publicity thing in the local newspaper every December. My mom tells me tales of having her photograph published yearly when she was a youngster. :) Joy is also alive and living in Proctor Minnesota. My aunt Merry was killed by a drunk driver before I was even born.
My mother's parents were Cecil Christmas and Grace Bjornson. Cecil was born in July 22, 1907. Cecil had a sister named Merry, brother named Basil, and another sister named Verna. Cecil was the youngest and Verna the oldest. Merry's married last name was Ronn. Verna married Ed Brownly (sp?). Grace Bjornson was born in Ohio in 1905 of parents from Sweden.
Cecil's father was named William and he was born somewhere in Canada in the 1870's. Basically this is where my trail grows cold. The Williams born in Canada either had the wrong birth date or the fathers were not born in England. Family tales say that William's father was born somewhere in England and emigrated to Canada. Willam's father presumably died young when he went off to some war and never returned to his young family. I dunno if William had siblings nor do I know the name of his father. A brick wall as I see it.
I kind of envy those of you that have knowledge of your ancestors from 5 generations or more. That is way cool, to know your heritage. When I retire maybe I'll have the time to dig deeper into my own family tree. :)
Hugs to all my kin,
Debbie
I hope this helps someone. I have notes too not on this.

Hi Shirl,
Several months ago, someone forward a email about one in England, think Mr.
Harry Christmas was
in charge. The email address I had for Harry Christmas was old, and my
message did not go through.
I do not know of one in the USA; perhaps someone on the list has more info
on this subject.

Dear Family:
I, too, am happy about all the recent activity.
I'm still here!! My name is Dale E. Colston. I am a descendant of
Lewis Yancey Christmas and one of his slave mistresses "Yellow Jennie".
(There were two other slave mistresses.) A very warm welcome to our
newcomers and "Hello, Again" to the seasoned researchers.
My lineage is as follows:
1. Thomas Christmas (Hanover Co., VA)
2. Williams Christmas
3. Lewis Yancey Christmas
4. Christopher Columbus (C.C.) Christmas
5. Louisa Christmas Woodson
6. Lois Woodson Colston
7. Paul Arthur Colston
8. Dale E. Colston
Looking forward to learning (mostly) and sharing. And always a very
special thanks to Herbert Turner, Joyce Truitt, Mary Christmas Wooten,
Ginger Christmas-Beattie (who sent me LYC info YEARS ago), and Bill
Christmas.
Note to Diane Dougherty in Canada! I know some of our Christmas
cousins that live in Montclair, NJ today. (I'll email you off-list
later.)
Peace & Love,
Dale

Hi fellow listers
My Christmas ancestors are from the Surrey County area of England. My GG Grandmother, Ellen Maria Christmas, was born in Witley, Surrey in 1834, in the Hambledon Union workhouse. Her parents were James Christmas and Elizabeth Glazier.
James eventually managed to get the family to the Toronto area of Upper Canada in 1842, where Ellen Maria grew up and then married William Gerow. They had four children...George, Mary Ellen, Rachel (my G Grandmother) and Thomas.
After the death of Ellen Maria's second husband, George Rutledge, she moved to Montclair New Jersey, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, (Ida and Joseph Mueller) until her death in 1927.
They lived at 63 Brookfield Road in Montclair, NJ.
I'd love to hear from any of my American relatives
Regards
Diane Dougherty
