Hi Mickey,
Somewhere, I think I have some information on a Christmas family in
Ontario, Canada, but have not been able to locate it. I will keep looking,
but will also send your message to the Christmas List. The list has over 50
researchers and one might be able to help.

Dear Friends and Family:
Does anyone have any info/idea(s) on how MARY L. CHRISTMAS acquired the
slaves that she bequeathed to her brother Lewis Yancey Christmas in her
Last Will and Testament dated 16 July 1821? (Source: Warren County
Will Book 23, page 218, thanks Ginger.)
"...I give to my brother Lewis Y. Christmas.....also the following
Negroes with their increase, Yellow Jinny, Adaline and China..."
I am a descendant of "Yellow Jinny (Jennie)" and Lewis Yancey
Christmas.
Any and all suggestions and information are greatly appreciated.
Peace & Love,
Dale

Good morning everyone.
I thought that I would get this notice in a little early, to give
everyone time to get anything together.
I will be traveling to Macon CO Georgia the end of June. During that
visit, I will be doing some extensive cemetary tromping throughout
Macon, Dooly, Sumter, and Turner Counties. I am also planning a trip to
the Washington Library in Macon, to the Genealogy department. They have
a VERY extensive file of Georgia itself.
I am willing to spend a limited time searching for other researchers.
If you have anything that needs to be looked up, let me know. I'll be
happy to.
God Bless you all

Herbert,
I was just reading this wonderful "treasure" you have helped uncover for
all of us. It is a wonderful history of our family. Thank you, and all
the others, for this gift. On Page 211, you have a picture of your
grandparents, father, aunts and uncles. Your Aunt Juanita ("Nita") reminds
me so much of my Aunt Vera. I miss staying up all night talking to her
when she came to visit. Also, thanks for the picture of our great-great
grandfather in the front of the workbook. He was a very handsome fella,
wasn't he? I haven't been doing much CHRISTMAs research lately. I'm lost
in search of my CADDEN (My Grandma Christmas's family) and RUSHTON (My
Mother's grandparents) relatives and I DO mean lost AND frustrated!
Anyway, this is "ME": Merry Christmas Peel born 2-22-50 in Augusta,
Georgia and the following are some of the people who help make me "ME":

Whew! I hope I got all the great, great, greats correct! Herbert, as I
told you earlier this year, we are awaiting the birth of our first
grandchild (a boy) in May of this year. One more twig to add to our family
tree. Thanks again for everyone's help in compiling the workbook. Welcome
to all the new found relatives. We have a wonderful family. God bless you
all. Keep in touch.

Noting the early -mid 18C dates of Herbert's (and others)ancestors in
America, the task to source them all is difficult enough without touching
"the old country".
My own Christmas family were newcomers by comparison, arriving mid 19C.
My apologies to this list for suggesting there was more interest in the UK
origins. Your research and data on the American Christmases is impressive.
This Christmas cousin just hasn't found the 'link' yet..going back for me
means England, Wales or Ireland.
In the meantime, I applaud Herbert's efforts and will keep in touch.
Good luck in your research !

Dear Family:
Thank you all for your warm welcome and "Hello, Again", from many, too.
Already (!) I've read portions of a document that impact on my lineage.
(A reference to "Yellow Jinny" who was a slave mistress of Lewis Yancey
Christmas.) My lineage follows; please bear with me as I learn
"genealogy-ese":
Dale Colston - Paul Arthur Colston - Lois Woodson
Colston - Louisa Christmas Woodson - C.C. Christmas - Lewis Yancy
Christmas - William Christmas - Thomas Christmas...
Looking forward to learning (mostly) and sharing. Special thanks to
Herbert Turner, Joyce Truitt, Mary Christmas Wooten, Ginger Christmas-
Beattie (who sent me LYC info YEARS ago), and Bill Christmas.
Peace & Love,
Dale

Here is my line, "assumptions" included, which shows my problem areas; help
is needed.
1. My grandmother, Fauline Christmas m. Robert Turner
2. g grandparents: William Anderson Christmas & Arnetia Jackson
3. gg grandparents: William G. Christmas & Mary Foxworth
4. ggg grandparents: Nathan Christmas & Catherine
5. gggg grandparents: George W. (William?) Christmas & Unknown **problem area**
6. ggggg grandparents: William Christmas (assume) & Unknown **problem area**
7. gggggg grandparents: Jonathan Christmas & Hester Morton **problem area**
**problem areas**
5. gggg grandparents: George W. (William?) Christmas & Unknown: I have not
found proof that George is a son of William.
The 1790 Federal Census for S.C. list only three Christmas/Chrismas. They
were listed in the Camden District, Claremont Co. as follows: W. Christmas
(probably William) as having one son over 16 years of age, one son under 16
years and 3 females over 16 years. This Census also list an S. (probably
Samuel) Chrismas with 1 male over 16, 2 males under 16 and 3 females; also
J. (probably John) Christmas, with 1 male over 16, 1 male under and 1
female. The only record, I have found, regarding possible descendants of
William & Samuel is a Samuel, a minor in the 1790's, Sumter Dist., SC.
Not being counted by the census takers in 1800 helps to compound this
research problem. We know John was still in the area, but I have not found
any record of William or Samuel. The only Christmas listed in the 1800
census is Richard (Edgefield Co.) who is the son of Thomas and Temperance.
According to census information, George was born in SC between 1770-80
which would put him in the proper age to be a child of William or Samuel,
but probably born after 1774; date of land grants. The first reference I
have found to George being in Marion Co. is from the "Inventory Book (1827
- 1836) for Marion District, S. C." on p. 184, the estate of Thomas Hulon
(P. R. 339, 15 May 1821) list George W. Christmas, Christopher Dew & James
Locus as owing notes to the estate.
6 & 7. Records show a Jonathan Christmas as witness to land transactions
in the Chowan Dist., N.C. in 1719-1720. Assuming he had to be 21 years of
age to witness a land transaction, this would make his date of birth at
least 1698 or earlier. If this was the same Jonathan, he would have been in
his mid forties when he married Hester Morton and in his mid fifties when
his daughter, Margaret was born in 1753. However, I do not think this is
the same Jonathan; maybe his son?
Jonathan probably migrated to Craven County, SC, which covered a large area
of SC, in the late 1720's. Jonathan's land grant of 1731 was in Craven
Co., probably outside Georgetown Co. or in what is now Williamsburg Co. The
coastal areas (Charleston, Georgetown Co.) were developed first and
development in the Sumter & Clarendon Co. areas did not begin until
1740. From where he came, I do not know, but possibly from VA through NC.
The first land grant to a Jonathan was in 1731 and the last record I have
found was in 1755.
"The Register Book for the Parish Prince Frederick Winyaw" records his
marriage to Hester Morton on June 19, 1741; the births of son, John on Jan.
10, 1743/44 and daughter, Margaret in Oct. 1753. However, Colonial Records,
Council Journal, page 501, dated Dec. 3, 1751 refers to Jonathan having a
wife and three children; this was before Margaret was born in 1753. I
ASSUME the other two children referred to in the Council Records are
William and Samuel.
Land grants were given to John Christmas in 1767 and 1772, to Samuel and
William Christmas in 1774, in the same area of Craven Co., SC on the Black
River; Samuel's land grant was adjacent to John's grant.
Information only: 10 or so years ago, a researcher sent me a note saying he
thought William moved his family to FL, no sources/references given; did
not respond to follow up question. I have not found anything to support
that idea. With fellow FL researchers, Eddie, Cindy, Dot, Marlene, Susan
and some others never running a strange William in FL, I have given up on
that idea.
Somewhere in some archive, courthouse or family record is the little piece
of paper that will answer my questions. Many on the list have their lines
proven, but some of us have not; please share those little unconnected
tidbits of information in your files, it may hold the answers some of us
are looking for.

Dale Colston,
It's wonderful to hear from you. Please write back to me. I have a question
for you!
Great meeting up with you again!
Mary Jean Christmas Wooten
Hi,
I am trying to find the ancestors of an Elizabeth T. Christmas. b. Feb. 12,
1820 in I assume Livingston Parish, LA. I suspect her father might have been
Henry Christmas, son of Thomas Christmas, but have no proof. Elizabeth T.
Christmas married Thomas B. Morrison. Would appreciate any information on
the Christmas line in Louisiana.

Baton Rouge, LA
Thank you for the chastisment off list so quickly. Apologies to every one
for posting the article on the Archives Fire that I recieved on another list.
Often I miss things like this and I was just passing along in case someone
else misses them too. I am sorry I did not realize it was inappropriate to

Sorry.
