Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Dear all:
I am saddened by the news tonight of the loss of my great-Aunt, Gussie Clara
(CHRISTMAS) Gilbert who passed away on November 18 or 19. She was 103.
Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. today, Monday, November 20, 2000, at
Wachob Funeral Home in Chipley, Florida.
Unfortunately, that is about all the information I have at this time.

Please welcome Louella Bernhardt as a new member; she descends from Caty
Christmas & John Higgason, through their son, Thomas.
Most of the web pages were updated in the last 30 days. Some of the new
information includes several generations of descendants for Thomas
Higgason, provided by Louella.
Ray Anderson & James Baird has provided additional information on
descendants of Thomas Christmas and Rebecca Collier of LA, through their
son, Issac and his daughters, Francis & Rebecca Mary. Ray are still trying
to confirm that Francis is a daughter of Issac, and we still have not
connected this Thomas from LA.
To the best of my knowledge, no one has been able to trace William
Christmas, son of Thomas and Temperance Whitlock, and his wife Elizabeth
"Betsy" Ford Jenkins. Mary Jean sent me some 1820 census information on an
older and younger Richard Christmas in KY. As I told Mary Jean, it might be
a crazy idea, but in looking at the census for this older Richard, the
household members seem to match up for William & Elizabeth, except for two
daughters:
Age Children
0 - 10 2 - Harrison & Thomas
10 - 16 1 - William
16 - 18 1 - John
16 - 25 2 - Jesse & Edmond
45+ 1 - William/Richard
0 - 10 1 - Elizabeth
10 - 15 1 - ?
16 - 25 2 - Nancy & ?
45+ 1 - Elizabeth
The younger Richard is probably his son. We know the Cooks and Christmas
families intermarried, but I do not recognize the Cook names.
We know people sometimes named sons, William John and another John Thomas,
so is it possible this is William Richard or vice versa, and is the
William-Betsy family we have been trying to find.
Any information on these two Richard in the 1820 KY census will be most
helpful.
Since the update, I have received some photos, and will get them to the web
page in a week or so; I'll let you know who & where after I get them uploaded.
Working on a CD project for Christmas 2001, and it is in a rough planning
stage. The CD will be FREE, dollar wise, except for "maybe" postage, but
will be limited to the number I can do, unless someone volunteers to do a
few. I will write each member on the list a letter in the next couple weeks
outlining what we are planning, and what help we are asking.
The whole objective of doing a CD is a way for us to share all of our
information. If we not only share our major information, but the bits &
pieces, then with everybody looking at the same information, I think we can
answer a lot of our questions. I think the old saying is true "two heads
are better than one."
I sent out 4 test CDs to List members for their response, and ask if they
thought it would be a good research tool, a way to share information, ease
of use, and so on. Their response was positive, and they recommend several
improvements and things to add.
Some of the things being considered for the CD are:
1. Everything that is on the web page, plus a generation or two more, but
no information on living persons, just names. You will be able to use your
current web browsers (Netscape, Explorer) or your word processor to view
the information, just like you do now on the web page.
2. An updated workbook with index. The workbook last year was 800 pages and
60 was printed; I gave away 50+ of them; a few people did help with some of
the cost. If I did a workbook today, it would be over 1000 pages, and is
actually too big for me to print. Due to size, cost, etc. the workbook last
year was my 4th and final printed update.
The CD will allow for sharing of information with more researchers. Whereas
the workbook hard cost was $40.00+, the actual cost of a CD, including
mailing is less than $2.00. The CD is 600+MB, and will hold 50+ copies of
my last year's workbook, so we have room to include photos and copies of
original documents.
3. It can include allied lines. Dot Baker provided her Baker information
for the test CD; there were a number of Christmas - Baker marriages in SC,
and if you are researching Christmas family from SC, you probably will have
a Baker connection also.
I cover more in the letter, and give you the names of those working on the
test CD, in case you want to write them. If you know you will not have an
interest in working on the CD project, drop me an email, and I'll not send
you the letter. Thanks.

Hello:
Due to a wonderful woman Betty Jo McDaniel I have been able to obtain a copy
of the 1850 Census from a SC county. I have just went to the website of the
company that makes the book and found out their future plans are to only make
CD'S available if enough people place orders of $20.00 a piece. This info is
for additonal years, you can still get books they have already printed. they
list many counties up to 1920 and a different amount of orders to obtain a CD
for that year, I personely want each year that my family was in a county,
guess Im greedy:). Im in no way connected to this company but, think thay
having this information available to me in my home is invaluable. I have
found so much info from the one book I have, and been able to help many
people. It has also saved me many hours in the library and printing cost at
the library. Please help me and other to be able to obtain this info. Look
at it and if you don't agree, then bypass it by all means. Thank you for
your time and help getting this for all. Site address www.skpub.com. I also
want to thank all of you for all the help you have given me, Im trying to
pass on the torch, and get my stuff together, and once I do, I will share
with all.

Hello Christmas Family:
Again, many thanks to all researchers who've compiled all the family
tree information. Brilliant work, unmatched and invaluable for
generations.
Does anyone have any information about the ship GOODMAN CHRISTMAS, b.
1616, First Generation, may have travelled here on? Anythign about his
journey? Where might he have sailed to from England? Directly to VA?
Was he an adult or did he travel with his family? Please feel free to
suggest further readings.
I am also in touch with some DUKE family members. I asked if our Sarah
Sally Duke and Nancy Anne Duke were related to Doris Duke, the late NJ
billionairess. A response from Kim Hartmann follows...
Happy happy to all.
