William F. May, b. 1837, married Temperance Whitlock in Davie Co. in 1857.
William F. May married Rachel Martha Cranfill in Davie Co. in 1859.
William F. and wife, Rachel M. were listed on the 1880 Davie census.
William F. May found on 1900 census in Iredell County with wife Emely C.
and twin daughter, Mamie and Minnie, b. March 1889.
I think the William F. May in Iredell was the same as the one in Davie.
William F. May of Davie was in the Civil War. William F. May of Iredell
County filed for a pension in 1905.
I am looking for the marriage of William F. May and Emely C. ??.
Since daughter were born in March of 1889, marriage may have taken place in
1888. The marriage definitley took place between 1880 and 1890.
Does anyone have access to the 80's marriages?
Thank you,
Norma Z.

The first thing you can do is go online to familytreemaker or one of
those sites and down load a free program to enter your information into
and then we will work with you on learning how to get other information.
Meantime let me know who the oldest person in the family is that you
have birth or death date on and place of birth. From this I can send
you to the right place to research.
I have been researching for 28 years and am related to the Virginia
lines through Thomas Christmas. Please visit my homepage that is listed
at the bottom of this note.
I have published my first book and it is of interest to anyone who has
relatives that were in Warren County, North Carolina between 1801-1805.
Thanks for the response. BTW there are over 50 of us who correspond
regularly. I will send this note to them as well.
Have fun
Ginger

I felt so overwhelmed this morning when I opened my InBox and found that
there was a E-Mail from someone who is also a Christmas..
let me tell you about me.. I am 22 years old son of Gibson Christmas,
Grandson of Enoch Christmas.. My name is Boyd.. we live on the island od
Dominica, thats in the Caribbean, West Indies..the surname Christmas is not
a very common one here on the island at all, as a matter a fact every one
here knows each other very well, I would say for sure there ar less than 125
members in our family here.. I really appreciate what you are doing and if
you need any information, so as to include us to the family tree, just feel
free to asked..
I will tell you more again in another E-Mail.. but for now I'll end here..
awaiting your response.

Dear Carole,
Ginger referred your message to our Christmas List; the list is comprised
of about 50 researchers working on their lines and offering help to others.
I think I have corresponded with your father, M. D. L. He was kind enough
to give some information on your line, and additional material found on
some Christmas individuals in VA. If this is correct, then Bammie David is
the son of Frank Bramley (spelled Bramlet in census) Christmas, son of
William Jerome Christmus. I notice you spell Christmas with an A; a lot
from this line spells it with a U.
With the help from several people, we have compiled some information on
your line, and is posted on the web; address is:
http://members.aol.com/herbnet/christmas/481.html
If you have any problems connecting to the page or find errors, please let
me know. It is nice to meet another Christmas researcher.

After talking to Emma in AR she said that her husband's mother was from Georgia
and his father's family was from the Carolinas in North Carolina if she
remembered right. Emma is a very sharp lady and is so interested in gaining any
information on the Christmas lineage she can. I hope to get down there in the
summer of 2000. Lewis and Lucinda Christmas were in Ashley County, AR in the
1860's it seems that Lewis died and Lucinda re-married a Percer and they raised
the children.
The Lewis name came into the family after William Christmas married Jane Yancey
and it seems to have come from Lewis Yancey. Many of the men on that line are
named Lewis Yancey Christmas. We have not made a positive connection to any one
person in NC yet.

I asked Nina if she had a DOD for this Edward Junius; she did not but told
me they were born in SC; to make a long story short, from census records,
this Edward Junius appears to be the son of Robert L. Christmas, son of
Caleb Christmas, son of Nathan, son of John, son of Jonathan, the
granddaddy (so far) of the SC branch. Web information on this family is at:
http://members.aol.com/herbnet/christmas/482.html
The Camden, SC Archives has a good 1870 census book with some genealogy
material included; this gave me the name Junius (had it reversed in my
records - Junius Edward)and the name Thomas Moore, as father of Rebecca,
wife of Thomas Edward Christmas.
Thanks to Nina for sharing this information with us. Even though it did not
help her in her search, maybe it will help others. If you have any
information on a Christmas family in TX - mid 1800s, please share with the
list, it might help Nina connect her family line. Will show Nina's info
again, at end of message.
Thanks to Sherry. In going back over Sherry's information, shown below,
this does appear to be a new addition to Ginger Christmas'family line that
migrated to AR; I have not added this to web page, but in case you want to
see her line, web address is:
http://members.aol.com/herbnet20/christmas/tc15.html
"Sherry's Information:
Just a note to tell you I have talked with a lady by the name of E. T.
Christmas age 93 living in Dermott Arkansas. Her husband was Lewis Christmas
born 1903 died 1955. Lewis' parents were Thomas and Annice Christmas. She
said the family story is Thomas came to Ashley County from Georgia by wagon
with a dog. I looked in Ashley--a Lewis Christmas is listed in the land
records for 1861. buckner is listed also--I think that is the line Ginger is
working on? Anyway, Emma had never heard of a Buckner, or any of our
Christmas's."

Hi!
I had ordered a copy of a Social Security application for Thomas
Christmas, thinking it was my husband's grandfather. It came today and as
far as we know, there is no connection to our line. Hope it can help someone
else.
Name of Applicant: Thomas Edward Christmas
Date of Birth July 17, 1875
Place of Birth Calvert Tx (Robertson Co)
Father's Full Name: Edward Junius Christmas

The interesting thing about this is that this man was born on July 17, 1875.
My husband's grandfather, Thomas Nollie Christmas was also born on July 17,
1875 in Bremond, Robertson County Texas. They're maybe 20 miles apart if
that much. Coincidence - or another piece of the puzzle that we didn't
know about?

Please forgive a "personal" type e-mail on the discussion page. I've been
pretty quiet here lately but for good reason--following another family line
which was moving along very well and my husband & I have been considering a
move south.
So, for my cousins who know me, I thought I'd let you know that Brian took a
new job in Cullman, Alabama. He will be starting June 2nd. I'll stay
behind in Minneapolis to sell our house here & prepare our stuff for the
move. Hopefully, it will sell quickly. The house market in Mpls is
absolutely booming right now (seller's market for sure) and we live on a
desirable large, residential lake (14,000+ acres).
I'll be doing some visiting in the Cullman area while Brian is there & I'm
still based here so I may have time to do some research while there. I
don't think I can househunt for 8 hours a day, days at a time--I'd go crazy.
I think in either Cullman or Decatur there is supposed to be a good
genealogy library.
We don't know where we will live yet. We're going to look at a large lake
about 15 miles SW of Brian's work--Lewis Smith Lake, anyone know anything
about it? If we don't find anything there we'll probably look in Decatur,
which is 25 miles north of Brian's plant.

Is there a chance that this Harry H. could have been a son of Herry H. Christmas
born in MS? If so he is the son of Richard Christmas and I have alot of stuff on
his line.
Harry Hill Christmas was the son of Richard and Mary Elizaneth Smith and they
lived in Mississippi. Harry was in the Civil war and his father was very
involved with the Confederacy.

CHRISTMAS, HARRY H. age is 39 and he was born in IN.

I dont know these people but thought someone just might be looking for them.

Hi folks. I thought I'd share a comment, prompted by the first Christmas on
this 1860 mortality schedule excerpt. The first man on the list is my
great-great grandfather, Nathan Christmas Jr, resident of Dooly County
Georgia, died age 27, born in South Carolina, cause of death pneumonia...."
My comment is to caution everyone that "Sr" and "Jr" in the 19th century did
not connote father and son, nor necessarily any family relation at all. Use
of Sr/Jr exclusively for father/son is a modern convention. In those days,
Junior simply meant he was the younger of two men with the same name, living
in the same vicinity. This Nathan Jr was not a son but a nephew of Nathan Sr.

Hi Sherry,
Thanks for the information and questions; I will try to answer some now and
get back later on the others.
The J. J. Christmas is John James Christmas (1869 - 1930) and is buried at
Wells Cem., Lee Co., SC; he married Amanda Brown first and then Susan E.
Dean; had children by both. His parents were Ira Christmas & Abigail
Holiday, who married William Baker first.
We have two list members that descend from these families; they along with
Dot and I have tried to connect this Ira. I have not put this information
on the web page, but will try to do so soon. Some of what I put up will be
assumptions on my part and noted as such. Check the web address in a few
days for Absolum Christmas and follow link to Ira; address is:

Thomas Pate Christmas born 1899, Sumter SC
Parents--J.J. Christmas and Amanda Ellen Brown.
Who is J. J. Christmas?
Thanks Sherry
The Richard Thomas Christmas I have, is connected to Thomas Christmas &
Rebecca Colyer/Collier (VA/NC branch); web address:

The person I correspond with on the Butler line said it was the same
person. I can't remember the person's name right now but he has proof
that it is the same Richard that was the son of John Christmas and was
captured on the Eska during the Revolutionary War. They also had no
children and he left everything to the children of his brother James
Christmas in his will.
