Herbert,
Thanks so much for sharing the web address for Gad Christmas. I wasn't aware
that it was on. I appreciate it so much. Mary Jean Christmas Wooten
The following are some references sent to me by Mr. M. Lowe, who is not a
Christmas researcher but knows of our interest and was kind enough to
forward these.
The first is on Thomas Cross Christmas; next on Gad and the last is on
Jonathan. This "might" be the Jonathan, who is the granddaddy of the SC
branch. We have a Jonathan that shows up with a 1731 land grant in Craven
Co., SC, but cannot connect him. If any list member has any reference to a
Jonathan Christmas, 1700s, in VA, NC or SC, please share it; it might fill
in this big puzzle.
We have a lot of information on Jonathan on our web page, but we still have
more questions than answers. Web address to Jonathan is:

Web address to information on Gad Christmas is:

Please welcome Nina as a new member, who is researching her husband's line.
Below is Nina's information and following that is some information recently
sent by Sherry. The information from Sherry is about a Lewis Christmas,
with a father named Thomas, living in AR; we assumed this was Ginger's line.
Nina's Information:
Lewis Christmas

d 10-1987 Houston Harris Co Tx
married Floy A. Bently (first wife - married at least 4
times)
Thomas Nollie Christmas
b 7-17-1875 Bremond Tx (don't know county - just found this)
d 3-4-64 Houston, Harris Co Tx
married Bessie Gregson

d 1926 Austin Travis Co Tx - Confederate Home
Sherry's Information:
Just a note to tell you I have talked with a lady by the name of E. T.
Christmas age 93 living in Dermott Arkansas. Her husband was Lewis Christmas
born 1903 died 1955. Lewis' parents were Thomas and Annice Christmas. She
said the family story is Thomas came to Ashley County from Georgia by wagon
with a dog. I looked in Ashley--a Lewis Christmas is listed in the land
records for 1861. buckner is listed also--I think that is the line Ginger is
working on? Anyway, Emma had never heard of a Buckner, or any of our
Christmas's.
Hi!
I'm a descendant of Thomas and Elizabeth Christmas, but have been unable
to find Elizabeth's parents. She's my grandfather's great grandmother.

I have been hard at work on the transcriptions of the Minutes to the
Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions in Warrenton, Warren County, North
Carolina 1801-1805 and I now have the indexing finished. If you have
people in the county during those years please let me know. The book
goes to the printer in two weeks.
I will be starting the court records of 1780 to 1800 next and hope to
sell copies of these books to deferr the cost and time spent on them.
When I get them to the printer I will know the cost. If anyone knows of
a local library or Genealogical center that may be interested in
purchasing a copy please let me know.
Thanks

This is a reply from a lady that did a lookup for me. I visited this
cemetery in I believe in 1988 with Jabez Christmas widow--Estella Riley(she
had remarried). At that time there was a tombstone also for Robert
Christmas--Merry Franklin's brother.. Claudions Lemuel Christmas (also
called Dock) is the full name for Claude (from John Christmas information)
(Sherry, I see the Christmas cemetery north of Collins, AR and it has Claude
Christmas buried there, but there are also 6 unmarked graves in that
cemetery. It says about the cemetery "This cemetery is also referred to as
the Bowden Cemetery and contains the graves of several people including BEN
CHRISTMAS, stone gone. It is stated at one time there was a school and
church near here. It is said to have started in the mid 1800s." The
directions to this cemetery are: East on Hwy. 35 (from Monticello) to
Collins, then north on County Road 69 approximately 2.25 miles. Cemetery
lies west of road. (T 13S, R4W, Sec. 19).

Hi --
The message you submitted to this list (included above) wasn't
sent to the list subscribers. RootsWeb accepts only plain text
mail. That means that HTML mail, attachments, ``enriched text'',
and a few other formats can't be sent to RootsWeb mailing lists.
You can post your message if you send it in plain text; turn off
the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail
reader, or don't use any attachments. See
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm for
instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail
programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help.
We've had to institute this policy because of the problems that
accompany these fancy mail formats. Some people don't have mail
programs that are capable of processing the special file formats.
Even among those who do, different mail programs handle these
special formats in very different and confusing ways. HTML messages
pose special problems to our digested mailing lists. Most of all,
HTML-ified mail and attachments place a considerable burden on
RootsWeb's overworked machines. All in all, mail in this format
produces a lot of problems for RootsWeb's servers and subscribers,
so we find it's best just to use plain text.

Please welcome Becky as a new member; she descends from the LA Christmas
family that at least two other members, Diane & Tim, also descends. This
has been a difficult line to connect and I have made a lot of assumptions;
Becky has offered to help and hopefully clear up a lot of my assumptions.
Our web address for information on this line is:

I saw your webpage on AOL concerning the Christmas family. I was curious to
see if you might have any information about Elizabeth Christmas, daughter of
Henry C. Christmas and Esther Rounceall. One of my ancestors was an
Elizabeth T. Christmas who married an Thomas Morrison. I believe Elizabeth
father was Henry, but can't find any conclusive evidence.
Good morning list members; sorry I have not been very active lately; have
been doing a lot of yard and garden work; the very dry weather last year
damaged or killed a lot plants/bushes and we have been trying to plant new
ones. I have also been trying to get my golf game in shape, but we will
find answers to all questions about our ancestors before I do that.
I am pleased to introduce a new member, Andrea, who descends from Kish
Christmas. This name is familiar, as I have either received a query or
someone sent some information on him, but I cannot find it. If you would,
see if you have anything on Kish for Andrea and she has offered to send us
more information on different Christmas lines in England. Below is some
information from Andrea.
Dear Herbert,
Sorry it has taken me a while to get round to it. I've been rather
distracted be some new toys, i.e. the LDS on-line search and the NSW
indexes.
I have done quite a bit of work on my CHRISTMAS tree which is centred
around the Selborne, E & W Worldham area of Hampshire. Mary CHRISTMAS
was born in EW in 1780, later marrying James BICKNELL. One of their
daughters was Dinah BICKNELL who married a Joseph WHITE. They are my 3 x
gt grandparents twice and I am also descended from Joseph's sister
Hannah, (well its a small area!)
My main problem is Mary's father Kish CHRISTMAS. Everyone says he was
the son of Kish Christmas and Mary BULL who married in 1759. Kish jnr
must have been born about 1752. Their definite son John was the one who
inherited, plus John makes reference in his will to the land 'now
occupied by my tenant Kish CHRISTMAS'. East Worldham registers are now
totally illegible and one has to rely on transcriptions which are not
100%, e.g one reference to a Kish has him as Rich. Kish in the bible was
the father of King Saul. I would love to prove this connection and so
claim rich uncle Eli (Kish the elder's rich brother) as a real relation.
I may also have a hereditory claim on the use of a hop kiln in East
Worldham should I ever have the need!
I look forward to joining and finding the missing link. BTW I have lots
and lots of local CHRISTMASs in BK so can hopefully also give
connections.
regards
Andrea
Yes Terry my address is still the same and I am forwarding your letter to other
Christmas researchers of an answer if they have one. I haven't researched the

Hi Ginger,
I hope this is still a good e-mail address for you. I found a very old
genealogy query of yours from 1997 on the Alabama "unknown counties"
USGenWeb site. It concerned William Christmas and his daughters Druscilla
and Sally. I recently found out that I might be a descendant of Joel Dyer,
husband of Sally Christmas. My ggg grandmother was Rosana Dyer (married to
William Davis), d/o John and Lena Dyer. The Dyer researchers believe John
is the son of Joel Dyer who lived in Madison County, TN in the 1820's. He
came to Madison Co. by way of Christian Co., KY and before that Hawkins
County, TN. I found a bio on him from a link on the Hawkins County USGenWeb
site that says Joel married Sophia Weston in Hawkins Co. and served as a
Tenn. State Senator (not a national senator) in Nashville. Sophia died
after they had several children. The bio goes on to say that Joel remarried
to "Sallie Jones Christmas" d/o Willaim Christmas in Davidson County, TN
probably in the 1810's. From there Joel and Sally went to KY and then to
Madison County. John Dyer my gggg gfather was born to them (?) maybe....or
maybe to Joel's first wife. John later came to Marion Co., AL which his
part later was added to Itawamba Co., MS.
I was wondering since you mentioned having a lot of Christmas data, do you
have the children of Joel Dyer and Sally Christmas. I am hoping that I can
confirm Joel as my ggggg gfather and William Christmas as my gggggg gfather.
Maybe the Davidson Co., TN reference can help you with the Christmas'
line???
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks,
Terry Davis

This is the husband of Sara Duke in Warren Co. NC 9th Nov. 1801.

I want to wish everyone a happy holiday. I am not sure what holiday each

My latest project is transcribing the minutes to the Court of Pleas and Quarter

may take awhile.

Below is some correspondence to/from Mary Lou regarding her ancestor
Richard Christmas. I have nothing on a Richard born in SC in 1795 time
frame; think it is NC. In looking through files, the Richard m. Peggy Cox,
son of William & Betsy Ford Jenkins appear to be the nearest match. Please
check for files to see if you can match this family; thanks. Web address:
