Some information about the workbook. First, to those of you that have spent
many hours, working with me on the update, I most sincerely appreciate all
your help.
Some of you have written and expressed an interest in the workbook. The
printer has given me a cost of a little over $30.00, if I can keep it at
750 pages or less, with index.
I am having a problem importing into MS Word; I did three test booklets and
the page numbers ranged from 675 to 815, and I think all three tests
included the same material; this has been driving me "nuts." The number of
people, 10,000+, makes the index large, even though I have a 3 column
index. Also I use a size 12 font, which allows me to read most of it
without my glasses. I would like to add some copies of original documents,
maps, etc., but final size will dictate whether I can or not.
Anyway, whatever the size & cost turns out to be, I will cover the cost
over $30.00, as well as postage. I am having at least 50 printed to give
away to some fellow researchers, libraries and genealogy groups; this
workbook is my gift to our family surname. Those that still have an
interest in the workbook, write me at WHT-ABT(a)worldnet.att.net.
To those that get the workbook, there is one condition: within 90 days,
please review the workbook, and let me know of all errors you find. As much
as I have tried to be as accurate as possible, when compiling shared
information, I know I have made mistakes; I have a bad habit of reversing
numbers as I have gotten older.
When the corrections are received, I will compile them and send a copy to
everyone and place that has a copy.
Another problem I have noticed, is the way I have referenced some
individuals that have shared information. A lot of times I included in the
message line something like this, John/Mary Smith is the source of this
information and has provided their line back to ____. By not including,
dates, locations and so on, for people 80 and younger, this message is not
being printed. After I create the final gedcom, to make a new database
excluding the info on those 80 and younger, I will try to hand correct
this; if I miss someone, please forgive, it was not intentional.
I have been working on this final update for several months, and I am
getting tired, but will have it ready to send out the first week of
December. The last two updates were planned for December also, but were
completed in June and July the following year. My wife has been a real
sport; she has helped on research trips, transcribing documents and so on,
but she is also getting tired of having a husband glued to the computer. To
those that offered to help, and I indicated I needed the info by the end of
September to compile, I will have to have it by Saturday morning, November
6. After that, I will not be able to include it in the workbook, but will
add to the web page later, living persons excluded. If it is a large
amount, I will not be able to include, unless you send a gedcom, where I
can cut and add; sorry, but I will not have time to compile. If anyone else
has any info they want included, please send by that date.
Finally, and I do not mean to be rude, but those that inquired about the
workbook, and have failed to send anything on their line, the workbook is
not available. This is a hobby for me, and I and many others, have shared
every bit of information we have found to help near and distant cousins
connect to our surname. For those that do not share, most of the
information will still be on the web page. Please remember, outside of info
on living persons, most of this information is on the web, and it is free.

On the subject of our Herbert----
Herbert--without your help I wouldn't have been able to put my family
tree together and you putting me in contact with a cousin in Maryland has
meant everything to me. You are the best and I appreciate Annette for the
patience and she has even helped me with my computer when you were napping.
Thanks and much affection to you both.
Sherry
Herbert,
You are doing a wonderful thing. I know it is very hard work and sometimes
very mind boggling. I like many others I am sure really appreciate it.
And of course I want a book! Do you want the money now?

Please welcome Lisa Franklin as a new member of our Christmas List. Lisa
has provided us with new information on Charlotte, the daughter of Moses &
Sarah Christmas. Lisa's information shows Charlotte marriage to Ephraim
Wilson, and their descendants. Web address for this new information is:
http://members.aol.com/herbnet/christmas/9450.html
Lisa also brought to my attention that the marriage of Moses Christmas'
daughter, Sarah to Moses Moore, might be wrong. Her suggestions are at the
end of Sarah's message; web address:

Marlene,
We certainly seem to be coming up with a number of Christmas ladies, that
got married in Dooly/Houston Co., GA, during the 1840's.
We had Mary Christmas that married Henry Atkinson on 29 Dec 1848 in Dooly
Co., GA & a Mary Ann Christmas m. Thomas Baker on June 6, 1848 in Dooly
Co., GA; now Epsey C. Christmas marries Virgal Holton in Houston Co.
We have discussed the two Marys as being possible children of Jeremiah &
Caleb. This was based on 1840 Census showing number of females in
households. This Epsey might be one of those females, and now we have a
Mary we cannot place.
Here is another possibility; we have Absolum Christmas ( I call Jr.) in
1850 Dooly census;
1850 Dooly Co., Ga census: Absolom, age 45, b. in SC; Epsey, age 64, b. in
SC; Charles H., age 13, b. in GA; Absolom J., age 11, b. in GA?
I had "guessed" Epsey was probably his mother; Charles & Absolom J. are his
sons by his first wife. Have no idea where he was in 1840; may have been in
Dooly & not counted or moved there during 1840's. It is possible that the
Epsey C. is his daughter and named after the 64 year old Epsey. Absolum
Christmas, Jr. was in York Co., SC in 1860 census, no Epsey with him;
received an inheritance from father during 1850's.
As to the death of Jeremiah Christmas, I do not know; below is part of text
file on him.
"1860 Alachua, FL census, 05 July 1860, 17th District, Post Office
Gainesville??
Page 51, Dwelling 378, family 387 is: Jer. J. Christmas age 26, b. Ga.,
farmer; $400 and $264; Emily E. Christmas, 19 b. AL; Dwelling 377 is S. J.
Downing, age 40 & family, all born in SC; Dwelling 379 is Wm. H. Downing,
age 55 & family, Wm. & wife born in SC, but children in AL.
Dwelling # 376 is the Rigdill family, the head is Robert D. Rigdill, b. SC;
wife, Sarah A., 23, b. AL & children; also listed is James Downing, 27, b AL
I am assuming this is the right Jerry and I do not know what happen to
Frances Brown.
His second wife, Emily E. is probably a dau of Wm. Downing, as is Sarah A.
Rigdill and sisters to James."
As to your questions about Nathan and Sophronia, Jeb, Sandra & Eddie
descend from that line and knows a lot more about it than I. Did notice
that you also had Mary Jane's birthday as 1847; I show 1844, another of my
typing mistakes.
Since the List covers multiple Christmas lines, for those of you that are
interested, the web address for these families are:
http://members.aol.com/herbnet/christmas/311.html and
http://members.aol.com/herbnet/christmas/806.html and
http://members.aol.com/herbnet/christmas/420.html
Sorry, no answers for you, just more questions.

Herbert/Jeb/Anyone,
While working very hard this summer on the problem area of Nathan
Sr/Nathan Jr. versus Caleb/Nathan Jr. debate, I came across the following
information: Married on August 1, 1846 Epsey C. Christmas to Virgal
Holton, Houston Co, GA.
Question: Does anyone know who this Epsey C. Christmas is? Any further
details on either Epsey C. or Virgal Holton? The only thing I could find was
an entry in the 1850 Census of Dooly Co, Virgil Holton, age 27 is listed with
Epsey C., 23.
Also, have a few other questions before final thoughts on Nathan. Does
anyone know the date of death for Jeremiah J. Christmas b.1834, son of Nathan
#806 and Sophronia Clifton? When Nathan gave deed gifts to his older children
in 1873, why no mention of Jeremiah J?
Do we have proof of marriage of Nathan and Sophronia? I keep wondering
about the births of their children. Have you noticed how Nathan was fathering
a child every 1-2 years:
Jeremiah J. 1834
Daniel J. 1836
Naomi 1838
9 years no births
Mary Jane 1847
James Nathan1849
new marriage 1863
MaryAnn Catherine Dillard
Then Nathan again resumed births every 1-2 years with 7 children in new
family. Is there a possibility that Sophronia is not the mother of all the
older children? Perhaps only of MaryJane and James Nathan? It just seems
highly unlikely that she would be ill or not having children for 9 years and
then resume giving birth. Any thoughts on this?
Looking forward to hearing from you. Probably more questions tomorrow...
Marlene
I will look and I will also send this note to other Christmas-Graves
researchers.

Need help on a Nathan Christmas, born 1838 in SC - per 1850 census, a child
of my gg-grandparents; he was not listed in 1860 SC census. Family "tales"
say he left home during the 1850's and went to Camden, SC I assume; could
not find a record of him in that area. He had three brothers, all were in
Civil War, with his oldest and youngest dying at Richmond.
In the 1860 Edgecombe Co., NC, I find a Nathan Christmas, age 24, born in
SC, living with Noah Martins, age 24 & ?(female) Martins, 22.
1870 Wilson Co., NC census is a Nathan C. Christmas, born in SC, age 39 (15
years more than 1860) with wife, Elizabeth, 30 and following children: Ido,
5 & Robert, 3; also living with them is Mary Holland, 60.
Enlisted in Wilson Co., NC on May 27, 1861, Co. B, 2nd Regiment, NC State
Troops; age given as 27 and born in SC.
The children names, Ido & Robert, are not in my gg-grandparents line.
Now I am left with the possibility that this might be the missing son,
UNLESS someone can connect him to a family line. If you would, check to see
if you have this Nathan connected to a family line and let me know. Thanks.
