Here is another deed and I am interested in knowing who this John

Thanks so much. Do you know Nathan Alexander's ancestry? I know one (of the
many) Nathan Alexanders settled in Jackson County. He, I believe descended
from Moses' brother Nathan.

Cindy,
I think the mayor was Randal Norton Christmas, both he and a Frances were
children of Daniel James Christmas, Jr.; this info is from Tom Lloyd, who

I too have noticed that information is slow and have a deed out of
Orange County, NC to add and I hope it will help someone in the
research. It was brought to my attention that Michael WHATLEY was
mentioned in John CHRISTMAS' will of 1783 so I looked up the only deed
of my 55 such deeds of early Orange Co. NC on the Christmas family and
found this one. I will try to go through the others and see what land
was connected to the Whatley family as well. It seems that the will
mentions land to go to his sons if it doesn't fall into ichael Whatley's
hands.

Hello Christmas Cousins!
I was wondering if anyone has any "claim" to some of the Christmas' who were
living in Miami/Dade County circa 1930s. There was a Marvin and a Daniel J and
a Frances K. (to name a few.)
Does anyone know of the Christmas who was mayor of Miami?
It seems as if we discussed that, but--perhaps I am just gettin' old.

Our list is much too quiet. So, I thought I would send some early Florida

I'd love to be able to identify the spouse of each of these. If you happen to
know, please send it my way, or perhaps it might be best to the group (as long
as no one objects). It just might help us all!

Will not make a habit of writing to List on non family matters, but I have
had a couple questions about this so I will touch base on subscribing to
List. When we set up the List guidelines back in Jan., it was the majority
opinion that the List be Closed; one of the main reasons for this was to
avoid Spam; another was so the new subscriber could receive the Welcome
letter, which explains how to write the List, to unsubscribe and how to
change from receiving individual List messages to receiving a batch of
messages.
The List is closed to non-subscribers writing to it; however, anybody that
wants a friend, family member, etc. to join the List, just drop me a
personal note (not to List) with their e-mail address and I will enroll
the person that day or as soon as possible.
If anyone has additional questions about the List, drop me a personal
e-mail and I will try to explain.

Shirl,
I'd love to be on the Christmas list. You're right about the potato chip
thing. My husband--who has yet to get past his grandparents coming over from
Romania in 1900 doesn't understand at all the facination with family tree
maker, the genealogy books, and all of the web genealogy pages. He hasn't
yet had his first potato chip victory so to speak. It's so neat when you find
the right limb of the right tree.

Too bad I am not still in Prescott, AZ. I could do some research in
Phoenix. We intend to go back out there in the spring of 2000 so if you
still need some done after that, Greg & Pat, you can let me know. They
have a huge LDS Family Research Center there in Mesa, which is a suburb

Most of my Christmas notes are from MO, KY, IN, etc. None I don't think
from MN or Canada. Sorry. Good luck on your search. Maybe Teresa will
come across something in MN for you. Gayle

Congratulations on your find!!! It truly is a small world....and seems to be
getting even smaller thanks to the internet.
I had something similar happen at a state genealogical conference. A lady that
I met at the conference was born in the same area that my ancestors settled
(Jackson County, FL.) I made a comment that doing our family research we were
able to locate a book showing births my great grandmother had delivered and
recorded (she was a licensed midwife.) This lady at the conference was my
Dad's age. I just could not help asking her who was the lady who delivered
her......she said she thought her last name was 'Benefield'. Yep, that way MY
great grandmother. I hurried home and lo and behold, I have a copy of her
original birth record!!!

Herbert,
I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I'm pretty sure that my mother said she
has found the Christmas surname in Minnesota when looking at census
indexes. We've also got a Christmas Lake about 10 miles from our house. I
don't know if it was named for somebody or the holiday.
Here in Minnesota they don't have much information available to those of us
looking for southern ancestors (where mine are from). However, I thought
it might be fun to spend a day this winter (which are LONG), looking at the
Minnesotan Christmas family. Perhaps that is how someone from Ontario,
Canada came to marry a Christmas. I'll keep you posted if I find anything.

Hello Christmas cousins,
I've got a fun story to share & a bit of information.
I went to Kansas City, Missouri to visit my parents for a week in early
August. I talked my mother into going with me to Carroll County, Missouri
to do some research. My Christmas ancestors emigrated there from southern
(Warrick & Pike counties) Indiana.
After spending some time in the courthouse we went to the local library. I
remembered they had a small genealogy section. One of the librarians was
busy cleaning the table by this collection and when she realized we were
going to do some research she asked if she could be of any help. She
explained their collection and then asked what surnames we were
researching. You should have seen her face when we said Christmas! She
said that she, too, had Christmas ancestors and had to call her mother
immediately to come meet us because she had done some research. I can't
remember if the mother was a Christmas or if it was more generation before
that...but anyway. Her mother remembered that she had found a small
article in the local newspaper in 1902.
Angee (the librarian) got busy and found the following for me:
September 8, 1902; probably from the Carrollton (Missouri) Daily Democrat:
The body of an old gentleman by the name of Christmas, who died in Sumner,
was brought here on the noon Burlington train, and was taken out to the
Christmas grave yard for interment.
Angee's mother Kathyrn said that she has never found a Christmas graveyard
and believes that this man is really buried in the Adkins Cemetery in
Carroll County. The only old man with a Christmas surname in the area was
my (and their) ancestor Harrison G Christmas. His son Greenberry was
living in Sumner, Missouri during that time. Therefore, we now believe
that Harrison G Christmas died either the 6th or 7th of September, 1902 and
is buried in Carroll County, Missouri.
It could have taken years to find this tidbit of information unless we
happened to be at the library when Angee was there! Thank goodness for
helpful cousins!!!

Hello all CHRISTMAS researchers!!!
I'm seeking any further information on any children of William Daniel
CHRISTMAS (b abt 1867 and died in Miami, Sept. 1941). He was married to
Minnie BUNTIN (they married in Houston Co., AL, December 1905).
Before he died I believe he had the following children:
W. Roy CHRISTMAS who married Margaret Liptak, Broward Co., FL, 1935. I am
pretty sure W. Roy CHRISTMAS predeceased William Daniel CHRISTMAS since he was
not listed in the obit (or, he was "disinherited").
Lucile CHRISTMAS who married Clyde R. ALLEN in 1935 & 1949. They both remained
in the Miami area through about 1956. After that I can find nothing. I'm still
unsure why they married twice; I can find no divorce for them between those
years.
Alma CHRISTMAS had married someone with the surname GOODKOOP (between
1938-1941) and was living in Mt. Vernon, NY, in September 1941. Does anyone
live or have access to any info in Mt. Vernon, NY, during this time period?
I'm seeking any info on any of these children.........school records, social
security, land, estate, marriage, death, etc., etc.
Also, William Daniel CHRISTMAS was separated from his wife, Minnie (Buntin)
when he died (1941). What happened to her?? I've been to the cemetery and
found her parents and maternal grandparents. But, I cannot find her there.
(They are buried in Ashford, AL.)
Well,.... this is just ONE of my many CHRISTMAS mysteries... I'm hoping
someone can help me.

Hi Christmas Researchers,
Hope all of you are having a good Summer, it has been a busy one at our
house. It has been no activity since the List was set up in May; know
everyone is busy, but if you have questions on a family line, drop a note
to the List and someone might be able to help. Also, if you have some new
information about our Christmas families, please share it with us.
Below is a message from Greg & Pat McCabe about a line I have nothing on;
if you can help, drop them a note and copy the List. Thanks.
Herbert

>Hello Herb,
>
>We have a little "Christmas" puzzle in our genealogy data for our Ontario,
>Canada families.
>
>Our grandfather Christopher McGUIRE had a brother, John Joseph (Jay) McGUIRE
>b1892 who married Elizabeth Myrtle (Lydia) SULLIVAN b1895. This is all in
>Ontario, Canada.
>
>"Jay" McGUIRE & "Lydia" SULLIVAN had 4 children:
>Josephine McGUIRE
>Verna McGUIRE
>Dennis J. McGUIRE b1915
>Lorna McGUIRE b?
>
>Lorna McGUIRE m unknown CHRISTMAS having one child that we know about, a
>son, Christopher "Kicks" CHRISTMAS.
>They lived and, as far as we know, died in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
>How and where Lorna, an Ontario farm girl, met and married her husband, ?
>Christmas is completely unknown.
>It's the same story about how she (they) ended up in Arizona.
>We know nothing more about their son, Christopher, whether he married and
>had issue, nor whether there may have been other children to his parents
>marriage.
>
>We have a great deal of McGUIRE information that we would be happy to share
>with descendants of this couple and, would like to know more about their
>lines too, obviously.
>On the off chance that someone amongst your researchers may recognize them,
>we have passed this "mystery snippet" on to you.
>
>Kind Regards,
