I know we have at least two List members, Elizabeth & Nancy, researching
Ephraim Christmas (John, Jonathan of SC) that moved to Rutherford Co., NC,
probably in late 1820s. Some time ago, someone (think it was Gayle) sent me
some census data on another Christmas family in Rutherford Co., which I am
looking for, but have not found.
Betsy has joined our List; below is her information; can anyone help?

anyone in my files; can anybody help on this. Thanks.

Herbert,
I am descended from William Woodson (Wood) Christmas (born 1842) who I have
found in the 1850 Grainger Co, TN census. Wood is buried in Harriman, Tn
and has a lot of descendents in the Roane County area. Can you connect Wood
to any of your lines? My direct line is as follows: Eugene Christmas
b.1918; Arthur Christmas b. 1891; Wood Christmas b.1842; Elizabeth is head
of household in the 1850 census. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks. Jeannie Hamby

Hi Jeannie,
We have several Christmas families that migrated from NC/VA to TN, KY and
other areas, but I did not connect William Woodson. Another Christmas
branch was in SC and the 1820 census shows a Wood Christmas that I have not
connected.
In the 1850 census, did you happen to note where Wood & Elizabeth (assume
she is mother) were born & if Wood had any siblings?
After I hear back from you and if I still come up blank, could I send your
message to the Christmas List? The List has 30+ Christmas researchers and
might be able to help.

Dec. 13, 1998 response:
Herbert,
I apologize for the delay in returning your message - computer problems.
In the 1850 Grainger Co, TN census I found the following:
Elizabeth born 1813 - head of household
Marridy born 1835
William Woodson born 1842
Matilda born 1846
Jane born 1848
In the family of Susanah Watson, Hannah Christmas born 1811 is listed.
In 1982 I corresponded with H.B. Christmas of San Antonio, FL who's
great Grandmother was Matilda listed above. H.B. had a receipt dated
11-4-1834 where John Christmas had recieved money from his father William
in or near Morristown, TN. H.B. reasoned that this John Christmas was
husband of Elizabeth and father of William Woodson. H.B. also mentioned
Doctoris and Isabel Christmas who lived in Elizabeth City, VA in 1623 and
assumed that we might eventually connect with this line. Unfortunately
this is all I have so far. Thanks for your help.
Jeannie
Sorry I have not paid attention to the List lately; my old computer was
just giving me fits; my wife, Annette was also having computer problems so
we decided to give each other computers for Christmas; after checking all
local stores and the Internet, based on features & price, we decided on
purchasing from Dell Computer; I was very hesitant about buying a computer
on-line; we ordered on Dec. 2, received them on Dec. 10 and have had no
problems, except for trying to learn Windows 98. This is not an endorsement
of Dell, just sharing my experience on a computer purchase.
Below is a message I got from Rootsweb today; basically it states, no one
but members can write to a List. When we started, we had a closed List, but
I opened it later; after a couple Spam messages I closed again. Since then,
I have gotten many messages that were blocked by Rootsweb and 90% were
Spam. I think if a non List member writes, it will continue to be bounced
to me and I can then send it to the List. It is a shame, but a few people
are sending a lot of "junk" messages to everybody.

Hi, listowners --
This announcement is to let you know that we've just finished
"closing" all of the RootsWeb lists. This means that the list server
will only let you post to a mailing list if you subscribe to it.
I'm sorry that this had to be done so hastily, but we didn't really
have any choice. The volume of spam that was being sent through our
lists had reached a phenomenal level, and I was spending most of my
time on that problem rather than improving the systems. Worse, some
users had begun to send spam complaints to sites that were completely
unrelated to RootsWeb, but could kill our network connection if they
received too many complaints. Closing the lists to subscribers became
a matter of self-preservation.
However, in order to make it easier on you, we've changed things to
make it a little more obvious when someone who isn't a subscriber
posts to your list. The list server will add the words "{not a
subscriber}" to the Subject heading of their message, like this:
Subject: {not a subscriber} Ancestors of John BROWN?
When this happens, you can use the "bounce" or "redirect" features of
your e-mail program (if such things are available) to repost this
message to your list, and it should be approved for everyone to see.
Or you can write to the poster and invite them to subscribe.
Important to remember: some folks will subscribe to a mailing list
with one e-mail address, and then try to post with another e-mail
address. They don't mean any harm by this. If you notice that
someone keeps trying to post to the list from an address that isn't
subscribed, and you *want* his posts to be approved, you can add his
address to the "accept list." To do this, follow the "Customize
Settings" link from the bottom of your listowner utility page, and
then choose the option to "Edit the Accept File."
If you have any other questions about managing a closed list, please
feel free to subscribe to NEWBIE-LISTOWNER-L and ask away -- one of
our more seasoned listowners will be glad to answer your questions.

Thomas Christmas d:1769 Hanover Co. VA
John Christmas and Mary Graves
Charles Christmas and Sarah Smith
The son William is the right age to be the following person. I have no
proof but I am looking into the records.
William Christmas and Elizabeth Kimbrough
Marriage to Elizabeth 1809, 23 Sept. in Rockingham Co. NC [bond
#000095687 record #073 01 078 John Newman bondsman and John Cambell as
witness] recorded in RR p.59
William was born by 1771.
Rockingham Co. was formed from Guilford Co. in 1785 and Guilford was
formed from Orange Co. in 1770. John Christmas and his son Charles were
from Orange Co. this is proved in the wills of both John and Charles.
Young William could easily be in Rockingham Co. I find that he is the
only William known at this time to be the bondsman for John C.R.
Christmas and Mary Thompson the descendants of James Christmas (his
uncle) in 1829, 25 Apr.

I found it interesting... I have copied and pasted what the web page owner

All my life I've wanted to know where I come from. We are Creole. A mixture
of African, Cantonese, Cuban, Irish, Native American and more. That's the
information I already have from oral history. I have always been proud of my
heritage. Now is the time I know the things that weren't passed down. I'm
doing this research because I need to know, and so doesn't the rest of my
family.
I live in New England -- that's why I call myself THE DISPLACED CREOLE.
I've been here for most of my life. I have lived in other parts of the
country, but have always returned for some reason or another.
My search has brought me to PAULINE LIZANA b. circa 1851 MS, and ALCIDE
FRANK b. circa 1843, New Orleans, LA. See my genealogy. These are two of my
maternal great-great-great grandparents.
I am searching for any kind of papers, i.e., diaries, overseer reports,
tax or financial records, from the farm/plantation of Ramon Sebastian Lizana
in DeLisle, MS. That might yield the only clues to Pauline's parentage.
I have just obtained new information on my FIELDS family line. WILLIAM H.
FIELDS b. May 8, 1848, Mason Co. KY(?); m. MARTHA (MATTIE) JANE RUSS, b. June
28, 1854, Loudoun Co., VA. They lived in Clark co., OH, in 1900. This is so
exciting!
Georgina Cornelia Frank (a.k.a. Ninny Christmas) is my great great
grandmother.
My Great Aunt Rita has told me that Ninny and her siblings were very musical.
I found this to be true when I started finding information on Alcide and
Gilbert Frank. Gilbert (Babs) was the leader of the Peerless Orchestra circa
1900. Alcide was the leader of the Golden Rule Orchestra around the same time.
Both were gifted musicians during their time.
Hi to All,
I was going through my files and found this...
It might help someone. Good Luck,
