I received the following on one of the other lists I belong to. Thought it
was so appropriate that I decided to send it along. Wishing a Happy
Thanksgiving for all....
Dot
TO ALL YE PILGRIMS
Inasmuch as the great Father has given us this year an abundant harvest of
Indian corn, wheat, beans, squashes, and garden vegetables, and has made
the forests to abound with game and the sea with fish and clams, and
inasmuch as He has protected us from the savages, has spared us from
pestilence and disease , and has granted us freedom to worship God
according to the dictates of our own conscience; now, I your magistrate, do
proclaim that all ye Pilgrims , with your wives and little ones, do gather
at the meeting house on the hill between the hours of 9 and 12 in the day
time, on Thursday November the 29th of the year of our Lord one thousand
six hundred and twenty three, and the third year since ye Pilgrims landed
on the Pilgrim Rock, there to listen to your Pastor, and render
thanksgiving to our almighty God for all His blessings.

give some pertinent information on the parents: Josiah CHRISTMAS and Hannah

Hi Dot! Happy Thanksgiving (almost)!
Guess what I found!! I got my great grandmother's death certificate. Her
maiden name was Christmas, and her mother's maiden name was Osborn! I have
never known that! For some reason the members of my family who do have this
information are trying to keep me from getting it. I have asked, and asked
and asked andaskedandaskedandasked until we are ALL blue in the face
FINALLY- about a week ago somebody slipped and said they think she might
have gone to Rye before she died. I called the Rye, NY (I wasn't told the
state, but I guessed) city hall and asked if they had a death certificate
for her. They told me to send all the usual stuff, and I just said- well,
can you at least tell me if you have what I need before I go through all
that, and if you have it I will send it, and they said "yes, we have her."
Everything seems so hush-hush about her. I still don't know why! Anyway,
now I know that her father's name was JOSIAH CHRISTMAS, and her mother's
name was Hanna P. Osborn, both from NY. My grandmother was living at the
Osborn Memorial Home when she died. I know that has something to do with
her mother's family . . . I just have to prove it now (to myself). On her
deathe certificate it also tells the name of the cemetery, which is in
Brooklyn. I can't read it exactly, but it looks like Turnwood or
something.. I'm going to call the Rye city hall and see if they can read it
on their copy. It says that she lived in Manhattan at Lexington and 42nd
St.
Now I have to find out about Josiah Christmas, and Hanna P. Osborn, both
from New York!
Anyway- That's the great news . . . this kind of news always comes with no
ending, though! but it's a good start!
Hope all's well. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Wm. Richardson's name and maybe birthdate preceded the "in Rowan Co.

I really appreciate all the great info you sent! I checked out the Pike
Co, IN section at the library here a few years ago but they did not have
much. Certainly did not see the above book/info. Guess I need to check
again to see if they might have now so I can copy that page(s). Will
certainly write the county courthouse(s) RE: records. Again, thanks!

Ruth I have it in my head you are not on the Christmas-L list so sent
email to you with cc to Christmas list. If you are & you receive 2 of
these emails let me know & next time I will just send to Christmas list.
The good news: Celebrate! I found your Sarah Va. Christmas & A. H.
Bailey on the 1880 census & A. H. & new wife on 1900.
The bad news: Still did not find Harrison G. Christmas & Nancy Jenkins
Christmas for 1880. Guess I am going to have to try & find time to go
thru the complete Carroll Co, MO census for 1880 next year.
I started off checking the 1880 MO Soundex for A. H., Alexander, Sarah,
Virginia, Hutson/Hudson, S. V. Bailey/Bayley/Baily & did not find any
that fit the family outline you emailed me. I should have went back to
the beginning of the B400s & started my search of each card but...I
started at the end. However, it was prob to the good I did that even tho
it took longer. I think I may have found some prob Bailey siblings of A.
H. & poss parents.
The problem on the first scan was: A. H. was listed as "Amos" H. Bailey
on the 1880 census. But it has to be your Alexander H. It shows:
3/3 Amos H. Bailey W M 36 MO Farmer MO KY KY
Virginia W F 25 Wife Keeping House KY KY KY
Ettie F. W F 8 Dau to school MO MO KY
Amon W M 7 Son MO MO KY
Nancy B. W F 3 Dau MO MO KY
Dove A. W F Nov Dau MO MO KY
This is in Carroll Co, MO. E.D. #155, "Sheet" 1 (printed page #511A) The
township is Wakenda (My maternal grandmother, Earlie Sanders Whiteman
was born in Wakenda.) This is an almost perfect match with the info you
gave me & the info we had on Sarah Va. Christmas. We have "Amos" rather
than Alexander; Sarah Va's age s/b 27 according to prev census info &
Butler Co, KY birth record; and you had your g-grandmother "Dovie"s
birth month as Oct 20, 1879 rather than the Nov shown on census. All in
all tho you are talking a very close fit.
In checking the several pages before & after the above group to scan for
relatives I ran across Leander Christmas listed in "Carroll" township in
E.D. #154; 25/27. (I had an extract already.
Herbert, I have not forgotten about you. I blocked out about six hrs
this past Sun for genealogy work time. I got most of the census data I
had for Harrison G. & Nancy Jenkins Christmas & their children input.
Still have several records to finish inputting in Sesame (which can be
exported in a GEDCOM file) & then will email to you. Hope to finish that
up this Sun. Next project, now that I have familiarized myself with UFT
& now know the numbering system only identifies order data was input &
not relationship/lineage, will be to get the Christmas data I have input
to it & send it to you. After that I will go back to the unrelated (that
I know of) Christmas census records I have. work will prob be kind of
slow on that now until after the Holidays. Have to get the Christmas (as
in Holiday & not surname) letter done plus an Equivalent/Emergency
Substitution Chart done to give for Christmas.
The Soundex search turned up a John M. Bailey, 35, born MO & family also
living in Carroll Co, MO. E.D. 157. There was a Joseph Bailey, 29, KY
living in Texas Co, MO (another H.G. Christmas line related area). There
was also a Daniel Bailey in TX Co, age 32, born MO. There was an A. W.
Bailey, KY, 49, listed in Saline Co, MO which is another area H. G. is
associated with. There are a few other Baileys in Saline Co, MO born VA
including an Ann E. Bailey, age 60, who is of an age to qualify as Alex
H.s mother. Of course, his 1880 census info shows mother & father born
KY but...might be worth checking out.
One other point of interest for those of us with Richardson/Christmas
connections: There is a Thomas Hinson, 62, Del, Ire, Ire, living in the
household before "Amos" H. Bailey who has a Florence E. age 17 living in
the household. I am wondering if this is Amos Richardson's (son of
Martha Christmas & Wm. M. Richardson) first wife, Evaline "Hynson"
(married Carroll Co, MO Mar 3, 1883).
I found "Alexander" H. Bailey living in Carrollton township, Carroll Co,
MO on the 1900 Soundex. E.D. 3, Sheet 5 B. At least it looks like the
same family altho there are some discrepancies.
106/117 Alexander H. Bailey Head W M June 1844 55 M 7 MO NC KY
Hannah Wife W F Dec 1856 43 M 7 OH OH OH
"Aymon" Son W M Jan 1873 27 S MO MO IN
Ray Son W M Apr 1889 11 S MO MO IN
Clifton Son W M Aug 1894 5 S MO MO OH
Lula Flamm Stp Dau W F Feb 1890 10 S MO OH IA
Ida Stp Dau W F Nov 1891 8 S MO OH IA
Alex's age matches quite closely. Amon/Aymon's is exact. Ray of course
wasn't born by 1880 but the info for parents birthplace indicates he is
the son of Alex & Sarah Va. & that Sarah must not have died until at
least 1889. The IN for birthplace for Sarah instead of Ky as on 1880
census does not surprise me or raise a ?. There is the same variance
with Martha's birthplace on the census records but we have strong
evidence it is the same Martha. Whoever was giving the info and/or the
census taker also must have been confused RE: Flamm children's parents
birthplaces. Hannah is shown as being born in OH but the mother's
birthplace is given as IA-prob s/b IA OH for them. Again this info
matches well what you sent me. Was this info from family history, info
from another researcher or?
I had copies made of the 2 Amos/Alex Bailey & Leander Christmas records.
Will mail to you this weekend along with the handwritten extracts on the
other Bailey references I found in the Soundex.
Teresa, I will mail you copies too. (& anybody else who would like. Let
me know which records/extracts you want copies of.) I also had a copy
made of the census record reference you had sent me for Martha Christmas
Richardson living with son Amos Richardson in Texas Co, MO in 1910. Do
you have copy of actual census or just extract? If extract, do you want
copy of acutal census? Ruth, do you want me to send you copy of this
record too?
Good Hunting to everybody! Gayle
The following article about the Richardson family was taken from a Pike Co,
Indiana local history book.
******************************************************************************
********************
John Richardson and Rebecca Jenkins Family About 1880
in Rowan Co. North Carolina. He died Apr. 13, 1864 and is buried in the old
Richardson cemetery just west of Oatsville. He married Sharlotta Jones. She
was born about 1809 and died Nov. 9, 1870. She was the daughter of Thomas
Jones and Christina Graves who were also from Rowan Co. Unto this union were
born the following children; Sally, John, Christina, William M., Jasper,
Wiley, America, Jesse, Eanus and James. William was a well respected member
of the community and apparently well educated for that time.
John Richardson appears to have followed his older brother a short time later.
He married in Warrick Co. Indiana on Aug. 27, 1835 to Rebecca Jenkins. She
was the daughter of William Jenkins and Sarah Engler. He lived and farmed 80
acres near Boonville until 1844 when he sold the ground and moved to the
Oatsville area in Pike Co. John was born June 1, 1813 in Salisbury, Rowan Co.
North Carolina. He died Apr. 16, 1896 in Oakland City. He is buried in
Montgomery cemetery there. His wife Rebecca Jenkins was born Sept. 10, 1810
in Butler Co. Kentucky and died Feb. 24, 1882 of a heart attack. John was a
Methodist preacher. Their children were William, Harvey Hiram, Sarah, Nancy,
Lemuel, Robert B., Mary Ann, Elijah B., James, Thomas Jefferson, Amanda and
Celia. Three of their sons served the union in the war between the states.
Harvey Hiram was in Company G 65th Ind. lnf. Lemuel and Robert B. were both
in Company E 42nd Ind. Inf.
George W. Richardson, who was born Jan. 31, 1821, probably came to southern
Indiana at a later date or possibly with his brother John. His wife's name
was Joanna. They had the following children; David L., Rachel, William,
Emily, Adison, George, Union F. and Christian M. George died Nov. 23, 1879.
He is buried in the Forsyth cemetery between Francisco and Oakland City.
Little is known about the father of these three brothers except that his
occupation was that of a shoe cobbler. This is taken from family history and
is supported by the fact that cobblers tools and supplies were listed in the
sale bill of the Lemuel Richardson estate in 1891. - Submitted by Bill Wilson,
a descendant. Bill was born in Pike Co., and now lives in Springfield, Va.
No I don't :o( but I have sent this note to a Christmas group hoping
someone out there can help you.

Marlene,
I copied all the Christmas pages as well but found that almost every
page of the book had a relative on it and wanted a copy to use at my

Thank you for the offer and let my copy go to someone else. I am trying
to aquire a personal copy for my research and to help others.

I sent (at least I thought I sent) this message once before but I get the
distinct feeling that either it didn't go anywhere or else it went only to Jeb
(that is what I had open at the time) and perhaps he hasn't read his mail
yet...?????
So, I'm trying it again and, if all else fails, I'll have to go back and read
Herbert's directions a little more thoroughly...: )
Ginger,
I have in my hand right now about 30 pages that I copied from Brent Holcomb's
Bute County book sometime in the past. They probably are all the pages
referenced to Christmas. I used the book in Miami's Main Library in the
Genealogy Room. I would imagine that most any library with North Carolina
holdings would have a lot of Brent Holcomb's books. He has done a lot of good
work with NC records. Any particular pages you would like? Jeb's suggestion of
an interlibrary loan is a good one. I do that quite frequently.
I've been trying to input a lot of my info into Family Tree Maker as well as
master the use of GEDCOM. I hope this message gets out OK since this is the
first time I've sent anything to the List.
I'm still working on Nathan Alexander, Jeb. Herbert, I saw Benny Raffield's
query on some forum and sent him some partial information as I didn't have all
of James Nathan's info into the program yet.
Let me know if you'd like the pages, Ginger. If the demand is not too, too
great I probably could send them to a few others. They are good.

Ginger,
I found the book listed on this site
http://www.books.com/scripts/default.exe
It states that the book is out of print and hard to find, if located
ships within 1-12 weeks. Price unknown. There is a button you can click
which says request search, I assume they will search for the book for
you, I don't know if there is an added charge for that service.
I haven't been able to find the book listed anywhere else, but I'll keep
looking.

Ginger:
I suggest calling the the Higginson Book Company in Salem Massachusetts
(which sells reproductions of noncopyrighted books), and the Genealogical
Publishing Company in Baltimore, Maryland (which publishes a wide range of
low-production books). If they don't list it, call the North Carolina State
Archives for advice. If worse comes to worse, try to borrow it by
interlibrary loan; if it's not copyrighted, you can have the whole book
photocopied.

Yes. It was confusing trying to determine which Wm. Richardson was the
one who married our Martha Christmas since they were within the same age
range. The 1900 census shows our Wm. M. as born in May, 1837. (Had a
similar problem with the George A. Sanders who was the father of the
George B. Sanders who married Martha "Mattie" Richardson.)
I had concluded, based on tracking census records (taking into
consideration the discrepancies often found in census records) that he
was the son of Wm and Sharlotta/Charlott Richardson. This was supported
by the fact that on the 1860 census Wm & Sharlotta/Charlott were living
in dwelling/family # 1289/1293 & Wm & Martha were living in 1290
1/2/1294 1/2 with a John Richardson, whose age matched a John in Wm &
Sharlotta's household in 1850 also, living in 1290/1294. This was in
Gibson Co, IN. Teresa also felt the same way. I had thought Sharlotta's
maiden name might be Crasise? since they were living in the household of
a Wm. Crasise? (about 4 yrs younger than Sharlotta) on the 1860 census.
However I notice you have her maiden name as Jones. I am verrrry happy
to find a maiden name for her! Do you have info on a marriage record for
Sharlotta/Charlott & Wm. Richardson? Teresa & I have not found yet. Or
did you come by the Jones name from some other source?
Do you have any idea who this Wm. Crasise? (maybe Cresse?) is? Would
sure like any info you have on the Wm/Sharlotta connection.
You mention a Rebecca Jenkins who was mother of the other Wm. & that the
two Wms were cousins. Was this Rebecca sister to Nancy Jenkins who
married Harrison G. Christmas? Was the other Wms' father John
Richardson, Wm's (of Wm/Sharlotta) brother? Do you have any info on this
Wm's (and John's?) parents? Thanks for your response. Good Hunting!

Does anyone know where I could get a copy of the book "Bute County,
North Carolina Minutes of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions
1767-1779"? by Brent Howard Homcomb
It is a Christmas family from NC dream to have this book.

There were two William M Richardson's in Pike County, Indiana born about 1836.
The first one was married to Nicey Ann ? and had two children that I know of,
Pittman Richardson and Melvina Richardson. This William was the son of John
Richardson & Rebecca Jenkins.
The second William M Richardson was the son of william Richardson and
Sharlotta Jones and a first cousin to the other William M Richardson.
Do you know which one is yours?
