Hi Robyn,
I am afraid I do not have too much to share. His son, also Samuel Thomas Christie was my grandfather. He was married to Caroline and lived for the last part of his life in Townsville. Unfortunately he died before I was born. I had only ever heard of my great grandfather in passing as he was never spoken about. When I mentioned to my aunts that I had found his death notice they also made the comment that he was not a very nice person. The family had a bit of a thing about carrying on a name as my uncle who was the oldest surviving son was also named Samuel and my older brother also inherited the name. I was born and raised in Townsville, but currently live in SE Queensland. As I said I stumbled on the death notice and from there progressed to finding your post but have not spent too much time researching any further as yet. It has always been a bit of a mystery the Christian/Christie name as we have never been able to get a straight answer as to the reason for shortening it t!
o Christie although my uncle's family continued to use Christian. Any information you could supply would be appreciated. Thanks Dan

Hi Dan,
Nice to hear from you. I have found out lots since I posted that message. Who do you come down through? My mum Evelyn was one of his grandaughters and she was born in Cairns Qld and so was I. He wasn't a very nice man but all accounts. My mum didn't have anything nice to say about him and neither does one of his grandsons. My grandmother
Amelia and his mother Eva were sisters and Samuel Christies daughters. I'm in Australia, where are you?
I haven't done anything with the Christies for a long time so will need to refresh my memory a bit. He was elusive for quite a while as he always used to tell Aunty Eva that he was a manx man and she said he always made the sign of the manx so I spent a lot of time searching for his possible birth on Isle of Man which turned out to be a bit misleading. Anyway let me know what you have and where you come into the picture. Happy to share. thanks, Robyn

Hi,
My ancestor, Duncan Christie was born in 1769 in Stirlingshire Scotland. He came to Kemptvile, Ontario after 1809. He had at least three sons: Robert, James, John. My ancestor is Robert, born in 1809. Duncan was married to Eliza Pearson and I believe they had 10 children. I know that Duncan died in 1859, but I cannot find out where he is buried. So far, I am not able to find out about his family in Scotland.
Since you posted 5 years ago, maybe you have had better luck!
Marcia Hanson
