Hi Jason
I am reseraching Christie in Ontario for a friend - no relation though. However all of my Scottish ancestors I was able to find at Scotlands People. I did a quick search just now for you - lots of John Christies born 1815 / 1816 (about 30)but none with that specific birthdate. If you know the parents' names and area where born, I highly recommend www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. I have been able to pull up birth records there back to the 1600's on my Andersons and my friend's Christies. You buy credits - make sure you narrow your search down before using credits. And beware - 1600's records are often in Gaelic but have been translated. Good luck.
sue

I am looking for ancestral connections for John Christie (b. 18 OCT 1815 Scotland, d. 22 SEP 1905 in Harvey, York Co., New Brunswick Canada)
I have fair good data on John's decendants however I am attempting to connect him to the Clan Christie in Scotland. Does anyone have him in their Scottish data?

Greetings from San Francisco.
Very interested in a Mary Clauson who lived at 20 Franklin Street, Glebe ,Sydney in 1938. She may be the key to finding out what ever happened to Bridget Roonan born 1859 in Galway Ireland to Patrick Roonan and Mary Hannon. She and a younger sister Catherine sailed from Glasgow to New Zealand in 1877. Is Mary Clauson the daughter of William Christie and Bridget Roonan?

Message Board Post:
My 6th great grandparents were William and Margaret Handley. William was a weaver who immigrated from Ireland (Ulster?) in 1741 with his brother John. They indentured themselves to pay for their passage and that of family members who accompanied them. William lived for a while in West Nantmill Twp in Chester Co, PA, then Augusta Co, VA. William died when their children were young. Margaret raised them in Augusta Co, VA and then moved to TN with her son Samuel Carroll when she was elderly.
Margaret's maiden name was supposed to have been Christie. But I have never seen proof of that. My questions are:
Was Margaret born is Ireland and did she marry William before immigrating (in which case "her" Christies would have been Irish?
Or, did they marry in America after William arrived. I've found a Christie family that lived in PA before moving to Monroe Co, VA/WV with whom my Handley family associated, but they immigrated from London, England, not Ireland. (This is the family of a Rev. James Christie who started a Methodist church in Monroe Co, then in VA, now in WV)
The birth dates for William and Margaret's children about which anything much is known started on Sep 24, 1746 with my ancestor Maj John Handley followed by Samuel Carroll (1751) and Margaret (1753). (There's another possible daughter, Nancy, but I've never found any information about her.) So, that doesn't help solve the question one way or the other.
