Hi
My name is Bette and I assist seniors (of which I am one) voluntary, how to research their families
We have just found a marriage 1881 District of Paisley County of Renfrew of a Robert Christie age 25 to Agnes Fletcher
Children of the marriage shown on the England 1901 Census
Agnes E Y Christie b1900
James Christie b 1890
Jessie Christie b 1893
Maggy Christie b 1886
Maria Christie b 1883
Robert Christie b 1884
Samuel Christie b 1889
William F Christie b 1895
Robert's parents are shown on marriage certificate
ROBERT CHRISTIE Engine Fitter Journeyman (dcd) and MARIA MILLIGAN (dcd)
I have done a quick check of Scotlands people but they do not appear to have a marriage for ROBERT CHRISTIE and MARIA MILLIGAN,
nor can I find them on the Census with Robert as a child though I am know to have senior moments.
I can only find Robert born abt 1856 on the English Census in 1891 and 1901 and birthplace is just given as Scotland
Any help given with this family would be greatly appreciated.
Bette from Bribie Island
Chris,
The Dunfermline family (Andrew) were living at Rosemount Cottage,
Beveridgewell, Dunfermline in 1891. Andrew's occupation given as a butcher.
In 1901 Andrew was recorded as a stonemason.

Hello List members
I have just started helping a friend with her family and as such we have
very limited information.
We are looking for a Charlotte CHRISTIE, born about 1896 - 1898 in Dunfimlin
(? Spelling) in Scotland, her mother could have been a BAKER, the family
could have owned a Sweet Shop and there may be other family who are butchers
or builders. This is very vague information but that is all we can glean
from the daughter who is well into her 80's.
Charlotte emigrated and ended up in South Australia where she married in
1920 aged 22 to a Albert Cecil TURNER and died in 1985 aged 87.
Can anyone help with ideas of how to find this person or maybe link us to
others who are researching the area
Thanks in advance
Chris in South Australia

Sorry Chris, I'd forgotten you did say who Charlotte's husband was, also
that her mother may have been a BAKER. Armed with the possible BAKER, plus
'sweet shop' & 'butchers or builders', I'd definately sign up with the Fife
Mailing Lists!!

Hi Chris,
I'm not 100% positive, but it does sound like the actual town you want is
Dunfermline. The way a Scot would say it, would come out sounding like
Dunfirmlin. It's the ancient capital of Scotland. Located in Fifeshire, on
the north side of the River Forth, Dunfermline is rougly 12 miles from
Edinburgh. Dunfermline Abbey is the main attraction of the town, but also
has the fabulous Pitencrieff (sp?) Park. Dunfermline is the birthplace of
Andrew CARNEGIE.
A search on Google brings up numerous web sites dedicated to Dunfermline.
My son was born there in 1968, whilst my husband was stationed with the RN
at Rosyth.
Do you know about www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ? You should be able to find
Charlotte's birth within this pay per view site. L6 buys 30 credits. It
costs nothing to actually search, but then you pay 1 credit to view the
results. If you view the actual page from the GROS registry book, then you
pay 5 more credits. Do you have any idea of who Charlotte's parents were?
Would really help if you did. Did she marry in Scotland or in Australia?
I'd try to find out as much about her parents/husband etc, before going into
the web site, so you will have less trouble finding her in Dunfermline.
Charlotte actually could have been born nearby, but because Dunfermline is
the largest town more easily found on maps, she may have said it, instead of
her true village. The husband of a friend did the same with us, as he'd
found most people hadn't a clue (over here) where even Dunfermline was.
When I asked him if he was from right in Dunfermline or outwith, he replied
a small village several miles from it. He is from Cowdenbeath and was quite
stunned we even knew where both places were. [A close mate was from there,
plus we favoured a particular butcher shop in the village!] So your
Charlotte may have done the same.
You should also sign up with the Fifeshire Mailing List. Lots of CHRISTIEs
in Fife and as your Charlotte is 'fairly recent', chances are you may find
someone on that list (and/or Message Boards) who will have her in their
line.
If you find your CHRISTIEs at some point came down to Fife from Shetland,
get in touch with me! Shetland is where mine hailed from, but I don't know
if any of mine actually migrated south. Have one CHRISTIE connection to
Banffshire/Aberdeenshire as well, though not a close relationship to me. We
did have connecting family go to Fifeshire, so again, if you should find
your CHRISTIEs lead back to Banffshire/Aberdeenshire, contact me.
All the best to you ... and good luck with the Fifeshire Mailing
List/Boards.
Cheerio,
Toni ~ Ontario Canada
