Hello
I have Christies at Haddington, who came to new Zealand.
They were from the Thynholm Estate area in the Haddington area.
George Christie m Ann Sheers in 1813 had children Thomas and George, but
there may be more.
It is very likely there is a relationship between these and your people as
there are few Christies in that actual area at that time.

I have a Jean CHRISTIE, married to David CURRIER in Leslie, Fife, Scotland. Don't have any more info or dates on them but they have a son David CURRIER, born 1756, immigrating to New Hampshire, USA in 1775. Does any one have anything on this lost Jean of mine?
Thank you.

Christine Christie
Researching my wife family I am looking for ancestors of Christine Christie
born about 1660 in Scotland, who married in 1679 to David Yeaman born about
1649 in Mains & Strathmartine, Angus, Scotland.
They had at least four children David about 1680, Agnes about 1682, James
about 1683 and Andrew about 1691 all born in Mains & Strathmartine.
David 1680 died 1722 in Fowlis Easter, Perthshire, he married in 1706 in
Mains & Strathmartine and after one child went to Perthshire. The children
of the marriage are :- James 1707, Helen 1709, John 1711, David 1713,
Alexander 1715, Alison 1717, William 1719, Patrick 1721 and Robert 1723.
David Yeaman born 1713 married in Mains on 1734 to Ann Gairy born about
1715.
Do you have a match with this family?
Regards
Ernie Davis in Australia.

Hi Debbie,
There were quite a few CHRISTIEs in Shetland, but the big problem for us
today is sorting out who belonged to who.
In Shetland at that time, patronymic surnames were the norm. For instance,
if your James was from Shetland, his father's
surname most likely wouldn't have been CHRIST(Y)IE. Christie would have
been his first name. Any children born to a James
CHRISTIE would have had the surname JAMIESON or quite similar. Fortunately
patromymic naming was not the
norm on mainland Scotland at this time, but CHRISTIE isn't an uncommon name
in many other areas of Scotland.
Not very helpful to you, I know, but thought you might not realize about the
Shetland CHRISTIEs and/or patronymic naming.
[My 5 x g-gf was William CHRISTIE, son of Christie ROBERTSON, who in turn
was the son of Robert NICOLSON (born c1688).]
Toni
Thomas Christy, b. abt 1830 and d. 12/1/ 1893 -- we think he probably
died in Huntington, WV-- is my gg-grandfather. He is also the brick
wall that neither my late mother nor I can crack. I have searched many
of the online indexes to Cabell County (WV) cemeteries and have not
found Thomas Christy (or Christie). His son, James William Christy,
Sr. (1858-1901) is my g-grandfather.
Thomas m. Jemima Hughs/Hughes (1822-1890) in Gallia Co.,OH, but raised
his family in WV. He is listed as Thomas Christie in the marriage book.
Jemima was the d/o John Hughes and Elizabeth Ott who were born in PA
circa 1777, and later settled in Mason Co. WV. Their dates of death are
unknown to me.
The census records show Thomas being born in Ohio and in Virginia and
his birth year varies.
On the 1860 Cenus, Thomas is living in Green Bottom, WV, with age &
birthplace listed as 25 and Ohio. The household listed is:
"Thomas Christy Not Stated, Cabell, VA 25 1834 Ohio Male
Jemimah Christy Not Stated, Cabell, VA 30 1829 Virginia Female
Jennie [sic]* Christy Not Stated, Cabell, VA 7 1852 Virginia Male
William Christy Not Stated, Cabell, VA 1 1858 Virginia Male.

De kalb Hughes** Not Stated, Cabell, VA 14 1845 Virginia Male "
* This is probably a bad transcription and should probably read
"Jerome" who was born in 1853.
<>** DeKalb Hughes was Jemima's son by a "Mac McMullen" according to
the Mason County WV History book:
According to the History of Mason County, W.Va: "THE HUGHES FAMILY"

By 1880, my g-grandfather, James William Christy, Sr. had moved out of
his father's home after having married Priscilla (aka Permelia) Frances
Bush in Gallia Co. in 1878.
They raised a large family of 8 children, 6 of whom lived to adulthood,
in Huntington, WV. Their 2nd ypoungest child was my grandfather, James
William Christy, Jr. (1893-1968) grew up in Huntington but moved to
Cincinnati circa 1917 where he met and married my grandmother, Gertrude
Schmidt.
My g-grandfather's brother, Jerome, m. Susan Bailey in Gallia Co. in
1880, and proceeded to raise his family in Cabell Co., too. Jerome died
in 1935 and Susan died in 1946, both in Cabell County. They had 3
children: Bessie, Clyde, and Harry.
His other brother, Jefferson D. Christy, m. Eddie [sic] Farmer, in 1885
in Lawrence Co. OH. Jefferson is listed in the 1895-96 Huntington, WV,
City Directory as an "axle turner" residing at 24 Twenty-Fourth St.,
Huntington.
Thank you in advance for any information on Thomas Christy/Christie his
parents, siblings or any of his descendents. Although he was married as
"Thomas Christie," all census records list him as "Christy" but
"Chrostie" may very well have been the original spelling. I have photos
and other information I will gladly share.

Trying to sort out or link some Robert Christies. Think you can help?
Robert Christie (b. abt 1702 d. abt 1750) married Elizabeth Lambert
(b. 1704) in 1731.
Elizabeth was the daughter of William and Anne (Bradshaw) Lambert.
Issue: William (b. 1733), Anne, Jesse (b. abt 1734 d. 1809), John
(1735-1736), John (1741-1742).
This family is mostly listed in the register of North Farnham Parish
in the upper neck of Virginia.
In about 1743, this family moved to Brunswick County, VA, and settled
on Red Oak Creek near
the junction with the Nottaway River.
A second Robert Christie died in 1823 in Edgefield SC, near present
day Saluda. He married
Mary Allen (b. 1760 d. bef 1803) and later Susanah (Gorman) Turner (d.
bef 14 Nov 1843).
Robert's estate settlement includes children: William H Christie.
Josiah Allen Christie,
Martha Christie Smith, Simean Christie, Sibby(?) Christie, Liheu (?)
Christie. Without any
proof, I speculate that this Robert is the son of William Christie,
son of Robert Christie and
Elizabeth Lambert Christie
A third and as yet unconnected Robert Christie (Jr.) was sheriff of
Baltimore. His cousin James
Christie (Jr.) (eldest son of Thomas Christie and Mary Watson of
Sterling) wrote a letter
in 1775 to brother Lt. Colonel Gabriel Christie, who was posted in
Antigua in His
Majesty's Service, where he said that "A part of yours or any other
Regiment ...would keep
us very quiet." After some proceedings before the "Maryland Council
of Safety", James was
declared an enemy of America, and ordered out of town, after being
levied a charge of 500 lbs for
the defence of America.
Since this same Robert Christie had, the year before, declined an
order received in his role
as sheriff (appointed in 1744) to read the Declaration of Independence
to the people at the
Court-House, he and his family were no doubt being watched closely.
Finally, in a meeting
the night of 4 Dec, 1776, at Grant's Tavern (where Washington would
stay in 1789 on his way
from Mt. Vernon to Washington), Christie was told he should "leave
town instantly".
James Christie Jnr joined Colonel Christie as commissary general of
the Leeward Islands, and
eventually retired to London in 1782 where he resided at Selkirkshire
until purchasing the
estate of Durie, where he died in 1803.
Regards,
Scott Christie
Stephen,
The 1800 census areas are Erie, Crawford and Mercer Counties in
Pennsylvania. My direct ancestors were in South Shenango Township in
Crawford County, around the Meadville area, others went to the other
counties. Later to Ohio and Wisconsin. There are so many James Christy/ies
back before the 1800 census that I am not sure where he really was before
that. Or where he actually came into the US. He could have come via Canada
for all I know. Not sure.. Thanks so much for any clues that I can take up
and go with. Blessings, Debbie Christie-Rogers

Yes, Thank you again, Stephen.
I already had the birth of Jane on 20 July 1855 in Strathmiglio (registered 30 July by her father)
and Jessie (as she is called in the US censuses of 1860, 1870, and 1880) in late 1852 or early 1853.
It's great to have the exact date of birth for Jessie!
I had both parents names, and information that they were married in 1847 in Edinburgh
Thank you for the more specific dates on their marriage. With my 1847 date,
and your dates of May and June 1848 - could it be that some of those were marriage intentions,
(maybe called bans?) - or maybe a civil wedding and a church wedding?
I admit to being ignorant of wedding customs in the British Isles.
I have other good sources for Ralph (including 1851 census as a 5-month old),
and Jessie is another name for Janet. The date fits, plus I have the information
that Margaret at the birth of her 4th child Jane, had previously had 2 sons no longer living,
and a daughter still living (Janet/Jessie).
I also have the information (from a grandson of George) that George talked a lot about his cousin,
Jessie
who lived in Wisconsin. George died in Connecticut in 1926.
Thank you again for the wonderful information. Now I'm off trying to find the NEXT generation
(parents
of Andrew born 1815 Newburg, Fife; and John born 1812-1816, Fife).

Thank you so much, Stephen. This has to be the correct set of parents. George even named his first
daughter Euphemia. Is John's brother, Andrew the tailor also in that enumeration?

I am seeking information about Andrew CHRISTIE (b 1815 Newburgh, Fife, Scotland) who married
Margaret and had 4 children (son, Ralph, Jessie, Jane) born in Scotland, then 3 more children
(George, Robert, Christine) in the state of Wisconsin, USA. Andrew was a tailor by trade.
He had a brother (name unknown, but also born in Newburgh) who had at least 3 children (Andrew
c1839, George c1840, John c1844). I would like to learn his name.
In the 1851 census (I think of Strathmiglio), children Andrew and John were living with their uncle
Andrew the tailor.
