Hi all,
I am new to the Christie list. Is anyone researching George Christe and Marie
Anne Domine, who came from Switzerland to St. Clair County, MI?
Thank you.
Lorraine
Hi Tracy,
The way to describe how I am related to your Christie line is way back in
the early 1800's in Pennsylvania, James Christy of Scotland originally,
settled in Crawford County PA (about 1810) had alot of children. One son was
Adam/Andrew Christy, who's son Robert Christie went to Superior WI, after
the deaths of two of his children in Clark County WI. Robert had a logging
camp in Superior and bought land in Duluth MN for the timber. Robert had
another son, Ernest who died in Hibbors/Hibbing mines, a son Payne, (who was
the father of Bernice). And a daughter Grace.
Tho the census below, the birth of parents as Canada and Wisconsin do throw
me a bit as Payne was born in N. Dakota. I am not sure about Clara.
I have Payne Christie and Clara Johnson as Bernice's parents. I don't have
much info on Clara. However I also found a second wife:
According to the 1944 Duluth City Directory, Payne had a wife listed as Mary
A. And his occupation was Cond. (conductor?) DM & I RRy (Rail road yard?)
home addy 1821 E. 1st.

EX-DM&IR TRAINMASTER DIES AT 82
Payne H. Christie, 82, of 1821 E. 1st St., retired trainmaster for the
Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range Railway, died Wednesday night in a Duluth
hospital. Born in LaMoure, N.D., he had been a Superior resident from
early childhood until 1935, when he moved to Duluth. Active in sports, he
was a one time boxer and also had managed a professional fighter, Eddie
[Kid] Billings. He was an ardent supporter of the Duluth Dukes baseball
team. Mr. Christie had served 42 years on the National Grievance Committee
of the Order of Railway Conductors and Brakemen and was a member of the
American Association of Railroad Superintendents. He also was a member of
the Proctor Moose Lodge, Euclid Masonic Lodge, Duluth Scottish Rite, Aad
Temple of the Shrine and University Methodist Church. Surviving are a
daughter, Mrs. Bernard [Bernice] Dower, Duluth; a sister-in-law, Mrs.
Angeline Bishop, Duluth, four grand-children and nine great-grand-children.
I am related as James Christy had another son, Joseph P. Christy who's line
is also linked to Clark County WI. My 4th G grandfather and Adam/Andrew
Christie were brothers. So I am a first cousin something removed, of sorts
to Bernice's line. I have done alot of research on my Christy/Christie line,
I have been to Crawford County PA, and Clark County WI in searching my
family lines. I was hoping to find Bernice's family, and to be able to share
with them their Christie history that I know. I would be very much
interested to correspond with Bernice's daughter, please do forward my
messages on to her. Is she interested in her Christie line Genealogy?
Thanks so much!
Blessings,
Debbie Christie-Rogers
