Hi Billie,
I just happened upon the Christie names at the cemetery in Nova Scotia while
searching another family name...the names caught my eye. My Christies are
not in NS, although I am. Mine are from Ontario. They came to Canada in 1908
from Ireland and settled in Port Colborne/London/Sault Ste. Marie and
possibly some other areas in Ontario. My earliest ancestor so far is David
Christie born about 1880 in Ireland.
The cemetery, in London Ontario, where my grandparents are buried had a lot
of Christies which I can't make a connection to. The name is Mount Pleasant
Cemetery. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Patti

Hello Christies... I am looking for any information on Jean Christie. She
was married to a David Currier, father of David Currier 2nd who was born in
Leslie, Scotland and moved to New Hampshire in 1775. Does anyone have her
in any of your lists? I seem to come up empty on anything I try father back
than 1775.
Many thanks,
Julia
Hello Patti, I am also searching the Christie family in the mid
1700s which we suspect may have had connections in your area. So far, I
have located them in Elgin County, Ontario. Do you have any info going that
far back? The period of time associated with the cemetary listings is too
recent. Thanks for any info. Billie

Sydney, Australia.
Hoping to find some of our long-lost Christie family - Robert Christie of Rock Island, IL, b. 1912 - 1914, married Marie Trowbridge, b. 1/18/1914 in Fayetteville, Arkansas around 1932, one son with Marie, Robert Gerald (Bob). Unsure of how long this marriage lasted or if it actually ever took place. Gerry (Bob) was eventually adopted by an Edwin Louis Harloff and took his name. My husband is Gerry's son. Would like to make connections with Christie cousins from Illinois. Robert Christie would be about 90 now, I guess. Does anyone know if he is still living? Names of his other children?
Many thanks!
Hi. My name is Dennie. I am trying to find ANYTHING on Cynthia Christie.
She was born about 1825 in LA (per family Bible) and died about 1910.
I have seen two pictures of Cynthia. She is definitely Native American.
She looks pure blood. (That may explain why I can't find her on a
census.) There is a Cynthia Christie on the Cherokee rolls. I am
going to check it out at the National Archives. (I am not getting my
hopes up for it being the same woman, but it is worth the check.)
Cynthia married a Purcell. I did not find any Purcell's in LA married
to a woman named Cynthia n the 1850 census. Rumor has it that he served
in the Civil War. Upon returning home, several years after the war,
his wife threw him out. He left and was never heard from again.
They had at least one child, Meriah or Marie C. Purcell. She was born
February 12, 1848 in Sabine Parish LA. Or so they say... I have gone
through the 1850 Sabine Parish LA census twice and I haven't found
anyone even close. Meriah married Benjamin Franklin Ford on March 09,
1866 in Sabine Parish, LA (per family Bible).
I would appreciate any and all leads. Thanks.
Dennie
From The Christie Families of Northern New Jersey by Edward T. Maszalec
"James Christie, 1670-1768, was the first Christie to come to America in
August 1699. Maszalec describes a "disastrous expedition to found a colony
in Panama. James Christie sailed from the port of Leith in the summer of
1698 on the ship "Caledonia", which was one of five ships. Included were the
"St. Andrew", "Unicorn", "Endeavor", and the "Dolphin". This fleet was
called the Patterson expedition which was attempting to found a Scot's
colony in the Isthmus of Darien (Panama). "
He goes on to say, "There are many conjectures as to why James was on this
voyage. Some have the opinion that he was a Royalist and having supported
the Stewarts had to leave when James the second fled the throne, he being
replaced by William and Mary. Others are of the opinion that he fled
religious persecution with the Tenants which founded the Presbyterian Church
in New Jersey. In any event, James arrived in New Jersey and settled in
Bergen County. " and " On September 8, 1703 at Hackensack, James Christie
was married to Madgalena Demarest, the daughter of a French Huguenot family
that had settled in the Schraalenburg area after a brief sojourn in Harlem
and New Amsterdam. His father-in-law owned considerable land between the
Hudson and East bank of the Hackensack Rivers. The original Christie
homestead was in present day Dumont on the east side of Schraalenburg road.
"

who married Nancy Smith in 1786?

All I know is My James Christy/Christie came from Scotland sometime around
the 1770's. And was married, where? He was found in the 1810 census for
Crawford County PA, Venango Twp, and stayed in Crawford County (South
Shenango Twp) for the rest of his life and died sometime between 1840 and
1850 census's. Some of his sons stayed in the area and some others moved on,
my ggg grandfather Joseph P. Christy/Christie stayed in Crawford County area
(South Shenango Twp also) but his son Joseph P. Christy/Christie moved to
the WI and that is where my G grandfather James Burton Christie and my
grandfather Roy Berton Christie were born. Clark County WI, Neillsville.
That is the direction that my direct Christy/Christie line has gone. My Dad
and I were born in Chicago Ill and now we live in Nebraska.. Alot of the
Christie family is still in the Wisconsin area, Clark, Chippewa, EauClaire
Etc. County Areas.
Blessings, Debbie Christie-Rogers

I have done some more research on Peter J. Christie and his family. I was in
Meadville PA at the Historical Society researching my Christie/Christy line
and found in the Huidekoper file a picture of Peter and his son John. I have
found out that Peter Christie and Nancy Agnes Gillespie had more than one
child.
They married Apr 6, 1817 In Erie PA and had 5 children,
Fitz James Christie born Mar 27, 1818 in Erie married Elizabeth Anna Johns
Feb 11, 1841 In Erie, and they had Anna Virginia Christie who married
Frederic Wolters Huidekoper. They had 4 children. Gracie, who died in
infancy, Frederic Louis Huidekoper, and Reginald Shippen Huidekoper. Fitz
James Christie died in Erie, Sept 19, 1848. Fitz and Anna also had a son
William Peter Christie born Mar 22, 1842 in Erie Pa.
Next Child was William Henry Christie Born Nov 2, 1819 in Erie. I am still
looking for more info on him.
Then John Gillespie Christie born Jan 9, 1822 in Erie he died in 1853 in St.
Augustine Florida according to note on the back of his picture. I am still
researching him for more information.
Then Ellen Christie born Jan 30, 1828 or 29. She married John Horace Bliss
Oct 1, 1850 in Erie County New York, Buffalo I believe. They had 4 children,
Anna who married Rev. S. D. McConnell, they had two children Ellicott and
Guthrie. Horace John, who was deceased as a child, Louise, and George F. or
T. Bliss.
Then Anna Marie Christie who married Thomas Holdup Stevens they were found
in the 1850 Erie PA census. So there is more to the Christie line than what
Mr. Maszalec has in his book. I know there is a connection to Peter J.
Christie and my line of Christie's, I just haven't found it yet. The Picture
of Peter I have taken prior to 1853 when he died, he looks like a twin to my
Grandfather Roy Christie who was born in 1903. For that much of a family
resemblance there has to be a connection somewhere. Even if it is over in
Scotland somewhere. Thank you so much, hope I have helped someone else who
may be researching this line.
Blessings,
Debbie Christie-Rogers

Subject: Samuel Christie, born 1792 in NY, settled in NJ
>From the book, Our Wantage Heritage.
p. 104 Another old settler was Samuel Christie, born in 1792 in Orange
County, New York. He purchased a farm in Dunnvale in 1832 from Samuel
Meeker. Christie was a man of great agricultural ability who also operated a
tannery situated near the brook which ran through his farm land. The
property on Route 284 is now owned by Theodore M. Stephens. The house
standing on this property was built in 1844.
I cross checked with the Maszalec book on The Christies of Northern New
Jersey. He is not listed in that book so is not in that line (my line). But
thought it might help someone else so am posting it. Linda
