The Christies of Skateraw
http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/h/r/Stuart-Christie/index.html
I am researching the kinship network of the Christie family of Skateraw,
Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, Scotland. The earliest record we have is of
Andrew CHRISTIE (b.1809, Skateraw, Fetteresso, Kincardine - d. 20.7.1882,
New St Stonehaven - son of William CHRISTIE, Whitefisher and Martha
MIDDLETON) who married Mary McLEOD (1810-1866 - daughter of Daniel
McLEOD, Labourer and Mary DAVIDSON )
Andrew and Mary had four sons - all Whitefishers: Peter CHRISTIE (1836,
53 Skateraw - drowned 21.4.1880); Thomas CHRISTIE (b 1834 - drowned
21.4.1880), married to Christian MASSON 48 Skateraw; William CHRISTIE,
married to Margaret Leiper (34 Skateraw) and Andrew CHRISTIE, my
great-great garndfather (1832 - drowned 21.4.1880) married 1861 to Janet
MASSON (b1837-d.1882) of Muchalls (daughter of George MASSON, Whitefisher
Andrew and Janet had six children: Andrew CHRISTIE (1862- drowned
21.4.1880); George (b 1864); Mary (b 1875); Janet (b 1873); James (b
1868) and my grandfather John CHRISTIE who married Helen WOOD who had
been brought up by George WOOD and Isabella LEIPER.
This generation of CHRISTIES and MASSONS were painted in 1865 by the
Victorian artist George Washington BROWNLOW mending their nets, at home
in Skaterow; they were also used as models in Brownlow's more famous
painting 'Baptismal Ceremony at the Tolbooth, Stonehaven'. Most of the
Christies up to this generation are buried in the 7th century St Mary of
the Storms Kirkyard on the clifftop north of Cowie on Stonehaven Bay,
facing the North Sea.
With the advent of steam trawlers in the 1880s, John and Helen CHRISTIE,
my grandparents, moved to WOOD Street, Torry, Aberdeen, where they had 14
children: Janet (1900-1984); John (1897-1941); James (1902-1940); Peter
(m Ada); William (m Jeannie); Thomas (m Madge); Andrew (m Lottie); George
(m Bessie); Annie (emigrated to USA); Mary (m John LEDINGHAM); Helen (m
John ALLEN); Joseph (m Ella HOGG); Bella (m William CHRISTIE); Albert
CHRISTIE (b 1915-d 1974) - my father who married Olive RING in
Glasgow in 1945. Most, if not all the nine brothers, were line-fishermen,
a family occupation which died with the last of them in 1974.

Hello,
I am currently researching my "Christie" family history which has taken me
back to Halifax Co., NC. where my 5th great-grandfather was living in
1790-1810. He had sons; William, Thomas, Abishae, and Jesse Jr., and
daughters; Elizabeth (Weldon), Ruth, and Ann/Anna (Herbart/Herbert-Curlin).
William and Abishae moved to west TN., with William in Haywood Co., and
Abishae in Dyer Co., by the late 1830's.
William married Charlotte Thrower in Halifax Co., NC.,
Abishae married Eliza James in either Halifax Co., or possibly while briefly
living in SC. Abishae did spend a brief time in SC., before moving to Dyer
Co., TN.
Both brothers remained in TN., until their deaths.
Some of the grown children of William Christie later migrated to Brazos Co.,
Texas abt. 1862.
Thomas, it is believed married Catherine, "Catie" Harvey, also of Halifax
Co., NC., & had possibly as many as 7 children together; then both Thomas
and Catherine apparently died before 1820, but with no evidence of a will. I
do see evidence of their possible sons on later census's and other records
in and around Halifax Co., NC. One or two sons may have moved to Davidson
Co., TN., with relatives while still minors (after their parents died), and
I have seen the names of male Christie's whose ages would fit as their
children, living with families whose surnames fit those related to Catie
Harvey's family.
Jesse Jr., last appeared on the 1810 Halifax Co., NC., census, then appeared
on the muster rolls of the War of 1812, then disappeared. I do not know if
he died, or perhaps was awarded land in some western territory for his
service, then moved there following the war.
Ann/Ann married first to a "Harbart/Herbert", then 2nd to a "Curlin", and
moved to Haywood Co., TN., with her son, and not far from her brother
"William Christie".
The will of Jesse Christie Sr., names his daughter Elizabeth and her married
name is difficult to transcribe, but it appears to be "Weldon". I do not
know what happened to her line.
I have no information on the other daughter "Ruth" named in her father's
will either.
I am interested in finding out if Jesse Jr. did in fact die, or migrated
elsewhere. He was likely born abt. 1784-1794.
I am also interested in anyone who may be descendants from any of these
other siblings or Christie's mentioned.
Anyone with evidence of where Jesse Christie Sr., was born or when, would be
much appreciated. I have been told he and a brother "David" served in the
NC., Militia during the Rev. War., but have no proof. I was also told they
were born in Scotland, and that Jesse Sr., married a women name Julia in
England in 1771, but again, I have no source.
Jesse Sr., named his widow as "Dolly" in his will of 1810, and another IGI
record shows a marriage bwt. a "Jesse Christie" and "Dorthea J." in Halifax
Co., NC., but no source is shown.
Thanks for anything anyone can add to this or offer in the way of help.

Don't know if this will help or not, but you might want to check out the
photo section of the Owen County, Kentucky website
(www.rootsweb.com/~kyowen2/photo/BCBradney.html) for a photo of Clara
Christy and N. Bud Bradney. Clara was the daughter of Wm. Samuel Christy(ie)
and Ruth Shirley. She was born in 1884 in Grant County, Kentucky. Clara had
4 brothers including William, Vernon, Jesse R., and Edward. Her
grandparents were John T. Christie(y) and Mary Ann Coates.
