I haven't done a great deal of research on my CHRISTIE branch, but the
information I have is as follows:
It is believed that John Thomas CHRISTIE and Margaret (possibly SMITH??)
were the parents of twins John and George CHRISTIE. The father, John
Thomas CHRISTIE is said to have been in the British navy and died at sea
around the time his twin sons were born.
John Christie and George CHRISTIE were born either 7 June 1799, or 1800
(possibly in Edinburgh, Scotland).
John Christie married 10 December 1820 Margaret Euphemia ROBERTSON in
Pathhead Firth of Forth, Dystart, Scotland. John died 21 July 1890 at Elm,
Camden, New Jersey. Margaret E. ROBERTSON, the daughter of Thomas and
(Agnes or Margaret ?) ROBERTSON, was born 20 January 1798, Pathhead, Firth
of Forth, Dystart, Scotland; Margaret died 12 August 1875 in Elm, Camden,
New Jersey.
John and Margaret/Margret's children were (all born in Pathhead, Firth of
Forth Dystart, Scotland):
Agnes Amelia (28 March 1823) married James Truman Robertson;
Margaret/Margret (5 March 1826) unmarried; died 18 December 1841;
Margery Euphemia (11 August 1829) unmarried; died 8 August 1855;
Smith (24 August 1830) unmarried; died 1 October 1831;
John Thomas (26/28 October 1835).
George CHRISTIE (twin) married @18 March 1821 Marjory ROBERTSON (sister of
Margret Euphemia ROBERTSON, daughter of Thomas and (Agnes or Margaret ?)
ROBERTSON at Pathhead, Scotland. Marjory was born 5 March 1800.
Known children of George and Marjory (all believed born in Pathhead,
Scotland):
Agnes (10 December 1821) married William Marshall;
Margaret (22 April 1825) married George CRAWFORD (known children were
Euphemia and Lily).
Euphemia (unknown birth date) married (1) William Clarkson (of Troy), and
(2) Tom White. Euphemia and Wm. CLARKSON had 5 or 6 children (daughter
Agnes).
Story in the family said that John and George CHRISTIE had an uncle who
lived in America who encouraged them to travel to the U.S. where he was
willing to help set them up in business. John and George arrived in the
U.S. around 1832, sending for their families a few years later. The twins
went into the tobacco business and over several years had and ran the
largest tobacco business in that part of the U.S.
Both twins and their families settled in the New Jersey area (Saddle River
and Elm). I believe John and family also lived in Vermont and Troy, New
York, eventually settling in Elm, New Jersey. I believe George and family
also lived in Lansing, north of Troy, NJ
Do any of these names sound familiar with anyone doing Christie research?
If so, I would be delighted to hear from you.

I just checked the archives and there were 5 messages in November (a big month for this list) and 1 message-yours-for Dec. So there's nothing wrong with your server.
I recently was reading the Maszalec book again to help someone with their Christie line in the UK. I think there is a connection but my Christie's emigrated to the Colonies in the 1600's.
Maszalec, in his book The Christie Families of Northern New Jersey, states that "The first Christie that can be traced or that is known , was the Abbot. He lived before the days of celibacy and from his children four branches of Christies have descended. Fifeshire is claimed as the early home of the Christies and by the early 16th century there are records of them in Stirling, St. Andrews and Aberdeen."
Maszalec states that the first Christie in America was my ancestor, James Christie who came to this country in August 1699. He may have fled religious persecution. Some think he may have beena Jacobite, but others say he was a royalist and having supported the Stewarts had to leave when James the second fled the throne, he being replaced by William and Mary. I think that's probably more likely as I have found information that suggest the Christies were members of Clan Farquharson and that clan had royalist sympathies. Hope this helps.
Maszalec has some information on family crests but mostly it deals with New Jersey, USA descendents. I have my Christies on my website if anyone is interested. http://users.nac.net/redrider/Index.htm

Hello List, I am looking for any information on my Christie ancestor--the
only information I have is, basically, her name: Jean CHRISTIE, She married
David CURRIER--their son, also David, was born in 1756 in Leslie, Fife,
Scotland and moved to the colonies--New Hampshire--in 1775. He married Mary
Dinsmore in 1778.
If anyone could give me a clue where to go with this to find more I'd be
grateful!
Thank you,
