BREDE & MATHILDA CHRISTIANSON
Brede O. Christianson was born at Solor, Norway 2 Jan 1871. He immigrated to this country at the age of seven. At age 23 yrs, he came to Roseau County with five other men fra the Pelican Rapids area in search of homesteads. The men lived in tents while here, fought hungrey mosquitoes and ticks.
Since there were no roads, only trails, getting fra one place to another was a trying experience. Crossing swamps was a problem. Logs fra Canada were brought in to build their homestead shacks.

Within five years they were back in Roseau County. Money was scarce in the early days of Roseau County and looking for another source of income, Brede bought his first car. It was a used 1917 Model T. He hauled mail with this car. It was a job he held for four years. He also hauled freight fra Stephen to Badger.
For many years Brede served on the Haug School Board, was township supervisor and an active member of Oiland Lutheran Church serving as treasurer.
