Herman had 3 sisters and 3 brothers. He was the middle child. Oldest girl was Margaret born in 1874. Margaret went to Chicago in 1892. Next was brother Johannes born in 1876.
Next came Ernest born in 1878. Then Herman in 1881. Ben was born in 1883. Ben died in 1955 in Iowa.Ben's wife was named Valline. Dora was born in 1885, Dora died in Iowa on January 30, 1958. Dora had married a man named Fred Martin. and Elisa was born n 1886. I beleive that Johannes and Ernest stayed in Germany. Was of the two was killed in World War 1 and the other one worked for the postal service and retired, I was told he had no family left in Germany and left everything to his housekeeper and her son. Good Luck !

My maiden name was Iwers; my greatgrandfather was Thomas Iwers who went to Hawarden, IA as the husband of Marie Helena Ausmussen with her mother and siblings to join her father Thomas Ausmussen in 1877. My grandfather was Frederick Christian Iwers who married Minnie Marie Larson. My father was Clifford Gene Iwers, his sisters are Helen Iwers Salberg (still living at age 90 with a daughter in MO) and Joanne Hildebrand Thorson (a half sister as Fred Iwers died young. I am searching for more Iwers history, I lived at Holstein, IA from 1974 until 1984 when I moved to WY and really had no idea of the Holstein/Schleswig connection with my family but have since learned of that. Grandma Ausmussen had been Katherine Helena Gefke prior to marrying Thomas Ausmussen in Germany in 1863 and I understand their are Ausmussen's and Gefke's still in SE SD and NW IA. Would appreciate any more info. Thank you.
