This posting is a repeat from 2013. I am still seeking information on my possible Christian line in Edgefield District/County, South Carolina.
Seeking parents for Sarah _?_ Carpenter b. c. 1813-1815 S. C. d. after February 25, 1883, probably in Edgefield County, South Carolina, or surrounding area. She was married c. 1834 to William Carpenter (b.c. 1808 d. before 1880. They are a couple with several children on the 1850 and 1860 census of Edgefield District, S. C. I am a descendant from their son, Ed/Edward/Edmund Carpenter. Lived in the area generally southwest of Trenton along the plank road that became Hwy 25. I have death certificates for two of their sons where the respondants gave her maiden name as Sarah Christian. In several trips back to South Carolina over the years, I have collected several Christian estate records, yet have failed to identify my Sarah _?_ Carpenter or any Christian connections for her.
Can anyone cited documentation of where the Christians lived before coming to Edgefield Dist. and where they settled in the area.???
Have much information on Carpenters. Christian connection is still a "stone wall" after many years of research.
Cates, my husband's line, were over the "ridge" in what became Saluda County taken from Edgefield. Tooles were from Barnwell District/County, South Carolina, Upper Three Runs area that was taken over for the Savannah River project.

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Clarence ADAMS which was taken at the
Winsor & Whipple Studio in Olean, New York. The photograph is dated 1882 and
indicates that Clarence was 6 months and 12 days old at the time. Based on
limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding
Clarence and his family:
Clarence Smith ADAMS was b. 8 Jun 1882 in Olean, NY to parents Frank Clark
ADAMS (b. 21 Oct 1853 in Livonia, NY-d. 8 Feb 1924 in El Segundo, CA) and
Mary Lucinda or Lucina SMITH (b. 27 Aug 1854 in Pike, NY-d. 17 Jan 1926 in
Redlands, CA). Clarence also had a brother, William Clark ADAMS b. 1885 in
Machias, NY. Clarence married Annie Mae BIRDSELL or BIRDSALL (1876-1956) on
6 Dec 1911 in Pasadena, CA, after graduating from Cornell University. After
the death of his first wife Annie, Clarence met and married Eva CHRISTIAN in
Fort Dodge, IA in 1959. Clarence died 18 Nov 1963 in Fort Dodge and is
buried in the Galien Township Cemetery in Galien, MI.
Census records provide the following details:
1900 census of Wanawtown, NY:
Frank C. ADAMS, age 46, born Oct 1853, married 19 years, born NY, parents
born NY, a Bookkeeper
Mary L. ADAMS, wife, age 45, born Aug 1854, married 19 years, 2 children/2
living, born NY, parents born NY
Clarence S. ADAMS, son, age 17, born Jun 1882, born NY, at School
William C. ADAMS, son, age 15, born Feb 1885, born NY, at School
I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old
photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of
this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley

Just to let everyone know that I have gotten other DNA matches, this time through the 23andMe DNA testing. This has opened up a new problem however. Both the ancestry.com and the 23andMe DNA BETA tests are ethnicity tests and help individuals determine their ethnicity. These test are not gender specific such as the Y-DNA and Mitochondrial DNA tests. The BETA test includes DNA findings for virtually every member of the family. Thus far I have not had a single match that shows any Native American DNA in any line of the families, male or female. I just received a match that goes back to the Esteps of McDowell County WV. This family includes Payne, Blankenship, Lester, Jones and many others to include Christian and Arther (Arthur). Yet the Ethnicity shows 0 % Native American.
I am now convinced beyond a doubt that Thomas Bailey Christian was not Native American nor was his mother. And most likely no relative was related via DNA to any Native American Tribe, but I do not rule out that some distant relatives may have been raised NA and considered themselves as such. Thus passing down from generation to generation their Native American Ancestry. I also believe that there are two kinds of Ancestry, that which is substantiated by DNA testing and passed down through our DNA and that which we associate with as being our ethnicity the group or heritage that we most commonly relate to.
I believe I have worked my way through the dead end with who my great, great, great grandfather was. I am now going to concentrate on putting everything in order so that I can move on to my next project, The actual Simpson line. Elizabeth Simpson's father.
If however any thing comes up that will shed any light on the TBC mystery I will of course return to this thread and share it with you.
