Thought someone might be able to take a look at any possibility that Thomas B Christian may fit in with the Lewis Christian family.
Lewis Christian born 1742 Goochland, Virginia and died September 1830 Hawkins County, Tennessee. He married MARGARET FELKNER1 1777 in Buckingham County, Virginia.
I don't have the resources to verify information but I have seen notes that Lewis Christian daughter who married a man by last name of Bailey and that a Samuel Bailey had land close/adj to his land.
Just a thought,

Very interesting post.
Problem, article written in 1768. TBC was born in 1770, but date of birth not set in stone!
Of the 200 whites living among the Indians, it would be most likely the Shawnee Indians would have TBC. Since the Shawnee were more likely to have roamed the Virginia, KY. and TN. areas.
There is one possibility though. TBC could have been the child of a Christian family that broke away from the main Christian branch, went west for a new more prosperous life. If TBC was taken captive by the Shawnee it would also be most likely that his remaining family had been killed. With TBC's family gone any information pertaining to his family would have died with them. During that time there were very, very few Christians living in the area where the Mastin's Lived. It is possible that all anyone remembered was that his last name was Christian and he was give a new first name, Thomas Mastin had no sons so he could have called him Thomas Christian. If no Christian families lived in the immediate area, how would the Mastin family make
contact with them. Also don't forget, Agnes and Thomas had no sons so maybe they didn't want to make contact at first.
There is also no evidence that Thomas Christian was ever really a captive, his story is completely unknown, with one exception. The only real piece of evidence is that Hezekiah Whitt referred to TBC as his brother. I believe that this is good enough evidence to account for TBC being with the Indians in or about 1777. I do not believe TBC and Hezekiah were actually brothers. In NA traditions when new members were brought into the tribe they came is as brothers. I believe that when TBC was taken in by the Shawnee he was so young that all they did was take him to the river and in Shawnee fashion wash away his whiteness and then he was introduced into tribe a brother. TBC was never acknowledged by any NA as a son, it is only through oral tradition that he is referred to by the whites as a son. NA Americans adopted whites into the tribe as brothers. Black Fish had a young warrior that he referred to as a Ward, which means he was taken in due to the death of his own father!
. The children were never identified as sons, daughters, wards or NA, at best we know only that whites said he was adopted. Hezekiah may or may not have been NA but he was to me at least adopted into a tribe and raised as NA, his calling TBC brother was a natural thing for him to say. Unlike whites the NA tribes had a very beautiful custom of taking outsiders in as brothers with full rights and benefits. NA tribes did not discriminate, unlike their white counterparts. For most whites I imagine the love and treatment of adopted whites must have been totally foreign to them. This can be evidenced in the way so many captives did not want to return to the white society once it became possible.
>From my readings I have summarized that there were very few Christians in this area at the time of TBC. I believe that if he was captured he was taken captive outside the area and brought into the area as the tribes moved around. Just because he was recovered where he was does not mean that he was taken captive in that area.
I also think that since TBC was only 7 years old, there was a distinct possibility that Thomas and Agnes may have seen in him the son they could not have and may not have been in any hurry to see him returned to his own family, even if they knew who they were.

Carlos - thanks for taking the time to share : ) And Ken - it will be very interesting to go beyond TBC and I am wondering if the Nathaniel Christian line is getting together to compare DNA clues?
And also, I am going to put all my speculation that TBC was kidnapped by Shawnee and lived as a Shawnee in the Nikitie Yahoo group. I should just let this thread be about DNA. Here is a link if anyone wants to join that discussion:

>From the 1768 Virginia Gazette story about a kidnapped man:
"He further gives account that he believes there is still about 200 white people living among the Indians of the Mingo, Shawanese and Delawares, who have been so long among them that few of them seem inclined to come away..."
I feel like our TBC was kidnapped as a child and grew up with the Shawnee and was "taken in" by Thomas Mastin after all hell broke loose in the Indian community. I think there is more paperwork to be found. I found an Agnes Mastin on the 1819 Sumner County census with acreage that is close to what Thomas Mastin is known to have owned.
If he retained his name why wasn't he re-united with ANY Christians that we know of? The Christians are a very respectable family with some very prominent individuals. You would think he would have been proud to acknowledge his relation. You would think that Thomas Mastin would have tried to connect TBC with his real family.
In 2014 I intend to find the exact land that our people owned, Mastin, TBC. And I am going to see if I can contact the descendants of Thomas Mastin and Nathaniel Christian to see if they have more stories in their families.

Carlos, thank you for posting the information. This has worked out very good for us. We now have three members of the TBC line that have taken at least one of the DNA test. Myself and Charlie have taken both the Y-DNA and the BETA DNA test. All tests show the same conclusion, NO NA DNA. Here is what is so good about this. You trace your line back to Thomas Scaggs Christian, Charlie goes back to Moses Christian and I go back to Mastin Christian. all are brothers, all are sons of Thomas Bailey Christian.
Ancestry.com also revised my ethnicity numbers. and my numbers pretty much reflect much the same as yours. I will have to go back and make a PS to this message giving those numbers for you to compare with.
You most likely got a list of potential matches, your list will be extensive because it is based on all members of your family male and female lines.. You should concentrate on any 2ndf, 3rd or 4th cousins. For the moment ignore distant cousins. You can really get bogged down trying to sort out distant cousins. They will play an important role once you trace your line back to the early 1800's and late 1700's. You will also find that the majority of matches will relate to your maternal family. Simply because there are more of them.
I had enough matches to trace my Christian line back to Charles Hunt Christian (1636) of Charles City, Virginia, and the Christian family of Goochland, Virginia.
Don't be surprised by any information you get and DO NOT dismiss it because it doesn't fit with what you thought your line should be. An example is my closest DNA match for the Y-DNA test is an African-American, I am white. It turned out that Charles Hunt Christian had a son who moved from Virginia to Georgia had a young slave girl and had a son by her, that son passed the Christian Y-DNA down to my present day match. So be open minded at all times.
Our big stumbling block now is connecting TBC Christian and Thomas Christian of Tazewell to the Christians of Charles City.

Ok, i am new to this dna thing so i will need help. My name is Carlos Christian, my father was Basil Christian Jr., his father was Harvey Christian, his father was Jackson Christian, next we have Thomas S Christian, who was the son of Thomas B Christian. I think that makes a direct male line to TBC. I have taken the beta test but not the y-dna test. i plan to try to get that next month. No NA blood line in the beta test, but they have changed the break down of where you came from. I think it is about 60% British, 28 Irish, some of 6 others but no NA blood markers. where do you go from this point to say i match so and so from 200 years ago? A lot of the trees i see have no way to prove what they say other than taking some one else's word, no was to back up what they say. Like my line i just gave, that is almost all oral hand me downs unless i can get the records to back it up. most of which i have, but i need help understanding the numbers the test are giving me. just tell me!
where to go for an explantian of them. Thanks for the place to ask these questions. I have been talking to Ken and Charlie who i thank for their patients with me being new to the site and DNA too. Carlos.

I am more than happy to share, it helps me as well. However as all good things must come to an end my search for TBC NA heritage has for me come to a conclusion. I have been informed that yet another member of the Christian family has been tested and he is in fact a descendant of TBC. His results show that he also has 0% Native American. Based on this information I believe there is enough evidence for me to conclude that No MALE descendant of Thomas Christian carried NA DNA. This adds to my faith in my conclusion that Addison "Attie Bailey Christian was in fact my great, great, great grandfather, Thomas Christian was my great, great, great, grandfather. This of course would include the maternal line for TBC but not his step brothers. My line goes back through Mastin Christian TBC's son, his brothers such as Moses Christian could still have maternal NA DNA but no Paternal.
While this does resolve the issue with the NA mixture it still leaves open just where did TBC come from? How did he really come to be under the roof of Thomas Mastin? I am thoroughly convinced that he was not adopted by Thomas Mastin.
I have researched every book I can get my hands on and not only has there been no mention of any of the adopted children, there has been no mention of Thomas Mastin. Thomas Mastin has been placed far outside of what his status calls for. Thomas Mastin was not a major player, he was a local hero, local entity. Thomas Mastin could have and probably was a sheriff etc. but all of his actions and behaviors would be considered a local matter. Any information that will be available for Thomas Mastin I believe will be limited to local historians and family history. Many of the books etc. that I have searched through do, include such names as Kenton, Christian, Skaggs, Robertson, Clark etc. but I have not found a single mention of a Mastin in any book that is considered a historical account of the Holston or Middle Country areas, Ky,, Tn., Virginia etc. I think that over the generations Thomas Mastin took on a live of his own built up by descendants looking at only the local im!
pact of Mr. Mastin.
My next inquiry will have to go back to Charles City Virginia, Goochland etc. and try and account for the Christian family. I still need to discover just how Thomas Bailey Christian ended up in Tazewell Virginia. How long or far back has the Christian family been able to actually trace it's roots in the Tazewell Area. I do know that there were Christian's in the area and as far west as Kentucky and Tennessee. But no records of any Christian families taking root and establishing a long line in those areas around the 1700's. Looks like another 12 years of research!
