I have been searching for over ten years for my ancestry. I ran into a dead end in 1850 When my great, great grandmother Elizabeth Simpson had two children out of wedlock and did not give tghem their fathers name. I recently was able to obtain a copy of my great, grandfther's death certificate. On the death certificate it has Attie Christon (Christian) listed as the father. In trying to research this name I discovered that there were only two such individuals Attie Franklin Christian who died as a child and Addison "Attie" Bailey Christian. I have been able to place Addison Christian in the same location as Elizabeth and both the Simpson and Christian families were familiar with one another. In order to validate my reszearch I had a DNA test taken. The Y-Chromosome 46 marker test did in fact validate that my great, grandfather John Walden Simpson was the offspring of a member of the Christian Family. I had 4 or 5 other matches. That is where the problem comes in. !
All but two of the DNA matches come back to Charles City, Goochland, Virginia. Charles Hunt Christian. One comes back to a Richard Wayne Loveland and through correspondence and research with this family I am finding it difficult to find the Christian/Loveland Connection. The other odd one,is connection between my DNA and that of Nathaniel Christian.
What I am confused about is if "Attie" Christian was in fact Addison "Attie" Bailey Christian then his DNA would have to match that of myself and the other matches. If Addison Christian and my DNA is a match then Addison Christian could not have been the son of a Indian unless it was the mother. His DNA would have to match his father's who would have been a Christian. This then brings into question the validity of the original adoptions. Did Thomas Mastin actually adopt the children for the stated purposes.
Since I ahve only see sparce references to the Christian Family Chronicles it is hard to put two and two together. Why was Ellipsico and his family murdered? Was the village attacked by white men, were the remaining women and children killed? Why would these certain children be saved and not others? My biggest question though is why would a man, adopt children and give them another man's last name? No matter how good a friend they were a man is not going to raise another man's child and treat him as a son but not give him his last name. Unless the adoption was a figurative and not a literal adoption.
Because of this death certificate, with the name "Attie" and the DNA matches I am really confused. I hope someone in the Christian line can sort this out for me. Everything took place between 1850 and 1854. Addison "Attie" Bailey Simpson was married to Rebecca Davis Christian at the time. Both the Christian and the Simpson family lived in Tazewell until 1850. Parts of the Christian family namely Margaret Christian moved to McDowell County (now WV). In 1850 my great, great, uncle Isaac D. Simpson moved to McDowell County to work as a farm laborer on the Margaret Christian Farm. Shortly afterwards Elizabeth Simpson moved to McDowell County to live with her brother on the Charistian farm. Addison Christian and his wife moved to McDowell County around 1849. The informant on the death certificate was Richard Simpson, John Walden Simpson's son.
During this time Elizabeth's father John Walden Simpson # 1, moved to Wyoming County with his new bride Rhoda Elizabeth Webb.
In order to help clear some of this up I have taken the new Ancestry.com DNA test that is more advanced and instead of the usual Y-Chromosome concentration with 46 markers it checks over 70,000 markers to give a greater picture of the ancestry. This new test will tell me if there is in fact any Native American Blood in my line. And should provide a more detailed list of matches than before. I am now waiting on the results of the test.
Until then I am dependent on members of the Christian family to help me solve this mystery. Also I hope to find other members of the Christian family who have taken the DNA test where our DNA can be compared.

Am looking for information on a Suinn Christian who was living in the Poplar Bluff, Butler, MO area in 1930. 1930 census shows him as born in Denmark in 1907 and immigrated in 1922. He appears on two 1930 Missouri Censuses with the same head-of-family and family members. His name is spelled differently on each. Thanks for your help.
