If you look in my Christian family tree on this site, you will find more about Lewis Jeffrerson Christian and his descendants. I, also, would like pictures of Lewis and family. If you will share, email them to bookdr(a)theworks.com. I would greatly appreciate this. I've been searching for his immediate family for years. Mary Lou Nevins

The "Firelands History Website" at http://firelands.wordpress.com has reached an important milestone, recording over 10,000 visits. Thanks to all who have stopped by to read "Sufferers' Land: A History", by Dave Barton, "Little Doctor on the Black Horse", by Harriott Benedict Wickham Barton, and the genealogies of the Christian family and other early settlers of the Firelands. Your interest and support is greatly appreciated.
Over the next few months, the existing genealogies, to include the Christian's, will be expanded, more families will be added, and additional stories posted on the website. Please visit often to learn more about the history of the Sufferers' Land and the role of the descendants of the Benedict family in the settlement of the region.
NOTE: The Sufferers' Land, or Firelands, as it is better known, is a part of the Western Reserve in northern Ohio that was given to "Sufferers" in Connecticut, burned out of their homes by the British during the Revolution.

My grandfather was Jasper N Lawson b 1878 in Watauga Co, TN. His grandfather was David Lawson living in Carter and Sullivian Co, TN all of his life. My grandfather wrote down that his grandmother was Julia Christian. I have found a marriage record for David Lawson and J.A. Christie in Carter county dated 1/11/1839. In going thru the Census records, I see that a Mary Christian and son William are living with David and Julia in 1860. In the 1870 census a Mary J. Christie is living with them. Mary Christian and Mary Christie appear to be the same person. Looking ate the census recordss of Washington, Sullivian, and Carter Counties for the years 1850-1870. there appears to be a lot of confusion between the Christians and the Christies. In one census, for example, a person is named Christie in the following census, that same person becomes a Christian. So I'm wondering weather Julia A. is a Christian or a Christie.

I am also researching the CHRISTIAN family of Montgomery County, NC. John Lewis, Eliza (LILLY), son Henry, and other family members are buried in Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Montgomery County, NC. Eliza's gravestone lists her as the wife of "Lewis Christian."
I started researching the family after coming across the gravestone of Major Edmund J CHRISTIAN, CSA 23rd North Carolina Infantry, in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA. He was John and Eliza's son, killed in the Civil War outside Richmond in 1862. At least two of Edmund's cousins, John Christian MCCAIN and Thomas LILLY, are also buried in Hollywood Cemetery.
Edmund's middle name is listed in cemetery records as Jennings but as the eldest child I wonder if it was actually Jenkins, since his aunt was Maria Jenkins CHRISTIAN.
I've expanded my research to the extended CHRISTIAN, LILLY, MONTGOMERY, MARSHALL and GAINES families in a search for the cousins who fought in the Civil War (including the spouses of female cousins).
Try as I might, I've been unable to verify that John's wife Mary was a Scarborough.
I believe Samuel H's wife may have been Eliza A WALL, but I'm working mostly off secondary sources and circumstantial evidence On this one.
I have pictures of CHRISTIAN gravestones in Zion Cemetery, Montgomery County, that I'd be happy to share and would like to share info with anyone researching the CHRISTIANS, LILLYS, etc.
