Dear Cecile;
I don't know if you're still receiving alerts on postings but if so, I'd like to know more about your research and documentation. It looks like my John Mills b. ca. 1725--d. autumn, 1780, had as his second wife a Mary Christian, whom he married in 1760-61 (she would have thus been born about 1739/40). The surviving children of the second marriage were named: William (b. 1764), Rosannah b. 1775/6, Priscilla and Mary called Molly--these are all names in the Christian family, notably that of Israel Christian, but possibly others as well. In the late 1750's and early 1760's, John Mills had power of attorney granted him by his uncle William Mills of Augusta County (John lived in Lunenburg County for a time but came from Augusta and eventually returned there to the Botetourt area), and one of the transactions he handled for his uncle was a sale of land from William Mills to Israel Christian (a parcel of 300 acres on Buffalo Creek, off the Roanoke River). Additionally, another l!
and record shows that at least one other daughter of Israel, named Rosannah, was older than some people have for her. She purchased 108 acres from her father for 200 pounds in 1767. She would not have had the right to own land in her own name and conduct such a transaction herself unless she was over 21. Thus she was probably about 21 at that time, and thus likely to have been born in 1745/6--not 1754 as some have (the "54" could be a transposition of her actual birth year though). Israel is alleged to have had a daughter named Mary, but she is alleged to have been born in 1750 and married a Trigg--and no one has cited any documentation for Mary's birth year or marriage, that ties her specifically to Israel and not some other Christian.
After over 40 years of family history research, I'm trying to finish, really finish, my late mother's family history back to the point of immigration on all her lines and get it uploaded. I really don't want to end up yet another person who has done many decades of work and even acquire work done by previous generations and then left it all in semi-organized files, file drawers and boxes for nieces and nephews to either send to a landfill or into near perpetual storage by donating it all--as is--to some understaffed, underfunded historical society.
Any documented help on identifying my Mary Christian? Mills is greatly appreciated.

>From the names used by my John and Mary Mills, I believe Mary to have been Mary Christian a daughter of one of the Christians in what was then Augusta County, I suspect a William Christian, but could be alternatively Gilbert or Israel. My Mary was the second wife of John Mills who was from Augusta County and lived for a time in Lunenburg County and eventually returned to Augusta--what became Botetourt--County. His first wife was named Ann by whom he had at least two children: John Jr. and Ann. As per land records, his first wife died between 1755 and 1760. In 1760 or 1761 he married "Mary"___ who based on the marriage laws of the colony at that time would have been at least 21 when she was married and thus born in about 1740. Soon afterward, John Mills conducted a land transaction between his uncle William Mills and Israel Christian. In fact, the Augusta County records showed several transactions involving members of the Mills and Christian families together. With his!
!
second wife, Mary, John Mills had the following known children: William born in 1764, Rosanna b. 1775/6, Priscilla and Mary called "Molly." In May, 1780, Capt. John Mills was wounded in South Carolina and returned home to Botetourt County where he died in the autumn of that year. In 1782, his widow, Mary ___Mills married John McIntyre/McEntyre, a constable of Botetourt County. It was not a happy marriage and even less happy for the children of John Mills who ended up suing their stepfather for withholding their inheritances.
I noticed that Israel Christian was said to have daughters named Rosannah (this was a definite one--a land record in 1767 states that at that time Israel sold his daughter Rosannah 108 acres for 200 pounds, which by the way says she was born a lot earlier than the DAR has her--she had to be 21 to buy and sell property in her own name--at least 8 years older than the DAR has her), Priscilla and Mary, who is alleged to have married a Trigg.
So, is there any documentation that the daughter, Mary, of Israel is the Mary Christian who married a Trigg, or is she perhaps actually my Mary Mills who gave all of her children names that were in the Israel Christian family? Were these names also in other Christian families, such as that of William?
Any documented help on this is greatly appreciated.

I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Miss Frances MILLER of
Festus, Missouri. The photograph was taken at the Central Photo Company
Studio in St. Louis, MO. It appears to have been taken in the 1890's with
Frances likely in her teens at the time. In addition to her name someone
has written the address "219 Grand, Festus, MO" on the back of the
photograph.
Thanks to the help of a MILLER Family Researcher I was able to gather this
information regarding Frances and her family:
Frances MILLER b. 27 Nov 1887 in Randolph Co. MO to parents Augustus MILLER
(b. Holmes Co. OH) and Ann Mary CHRISTIAN (b. 13 Nov 1852 in Randolph Co.
MO). The couple had 8 children including, Eugene E.; John A.; Lizzie E.;
Eugene D.; Ella K.; W. J.; Frances; and Eva P. MILLER all born between 1873
and 1890 in Randolph Co. MO.
I am hoping to locate someone from Frances' family so that this wonderful
old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you
are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please
contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
