Many if not most Manx Christians descend from a British and European Royal lineage. I am a Christian through maternal lines from the Isle of Man and have researched this connection thoroughly. If you have a Manx Christian ancestor and wish to find out if your ancestor connects, please email me directly at supernaw242000(a)yahoo.com. All my information is free.

Dr. George Christian (Charles Jr., Charles Sr., Thomas the immigrant) was
born in 1731 in Goochland Co., VA. He married Martha (Pattie) Walton in
1782 in Cumberland Co., VA which is the county just south of Goochland Co.
and north of Mecklenburg Co. It appears that their first 3 children were
born in VA but the family had moved to Wilkes Co., GA by 1790. The next 6
children were born in GA (Wilkes/Franklin/Madison Co.) He married his
second wife, Sallie Allen, in 1811 in Franklin Co., GA and it appears that
he must have immediately moved the family to AL because their 4 children
were all born in AL (beginning with Mary Matilda Christian in 1812). He
married his third wife, Lucy Pattison Moore, in 1818 in Madison Co., AL.
All 6 of their children were born in AL.
All of this to explain that I don't see a William Christian among his
children and I don't find a William Wycke Christian or a William W.
Christian in Eunie Stacy's book as descendants of Dr. George Christian. For
the most part it appears this branch was moving westward rather than
eastward - from VA to GA and then to AL. Several died in Ashley Co., AK.
On the other hand there were several Christians in Amherst Co., VA, which is
north of Mecklenburg Co., in the mid 1700-early 1800's. They were mostly
descendent from Thomas the immigrant and it's likely that William Wyck(h)e
Christian was also. I'm tracking Turner Christian (1750 Goochland Co.,
VA -1833 Elbert Co., GA - son of Charles Jr.) and have found lots of
information in deed books for Amherst & Goochland Co. I borrowed them free
through interlibrary loan between our local library and the Library of VA.
The LVA collection on microfilm is huge - check out their website. Many of
the early deed books have been abstracted(summarized) with all of the names
(grantor, grantee, witnesses, adjacent land owners, etc.) found anywhere in
the original deed book alphabetized in the abstract book's index. Deed
abstracts books for VA can be found in most major libraries. When searching
deeds on microfilm it saves a lot of time if you've searched the abstract
books ahead of time and know exactly which page in the deed book you are
looking for. In case you haven't researched deed books, not only are the
deeds interesting, but there is other very helpful information. Charles
Christian Jr's will was recorded in Goochland Co. deed book 13 and the
inventory of his estate was recorded in deed book 14. I found several
Christians (including Turner) on the polling lists in the Amherst Co. deed
book for 1789 but Turner was not in the polling list for 1791, thus helping
pinpoint his migration from VA to GA. The poll lists are almost as helpful
as the population census for identifying male land owners.
If you haven't already done so, my recommendation is to check out the LVA
website for the Mecklenburg Co. records on microfilm, then see if your local
library can borrow them for you.

Something to think about. Thomas Christian supposedly came from the Isle of Man and was in the tidewater area of VA by 1657. One of his sons was Charles, who had a son Charles Jr. 3 of Charles Jr. sons plus one of their cousins immigrated from Goochland Co./Amherst Co. VA to NE Georgia around 1790 (Elbert Co., Madison Co., Franklin Co.)
They became the progenitors of the GA Christians. The three sons were Elijah, Turner, and George (and I think the cousin was James Christian). George was a physician, married 3 times and had a total of 19 children. George moved to Wilcox Co., AL by 1820 and died there in 1831. Most of his direct descendants died in AL. One of his descendants, Eunie V. Christian Stacy, published a family history, "Christian of Charles City" in 1982. Eunie lived in Natchitoches, LA. Her family history is excellent - very well researched and is in major genealogy library collections.
Two other sons of Charles Jr. went to KY. They were John and William.
George et.al. weren't the only Christian who moved westward. Other descendants of the GA Christians as well as the KY Christians moved westward - to AL, MO, TX and onward - but many trace back the Thomas Christian, the immigrant.
I'm specifically trying to find out information about Turner H. Christian who married Ann Mary Beaukeneare 16 Mar 1824 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL. I think he is one of the unidentified sons of Turner Christian (Elbert CO. GA) and his second wife, Elizabeth Penn Leake Christian. There is evidence in Elbert Co. GA of a Turner H. Christian who was younger than Turner Christian. I would appreciate any information about this person and the Tuscaloosa Christians.

I spoke with my mother this morning. She said that George W. Christian (m. Matte Hartman), (son of John Christian m. Caroline Morrel)had a brother named Lawrence. He used to take care of his mother, Caroline, after his father, John died (1891), My mother said she would hear stories as a child about Lawrence selling the family farm and going to Oklahoma to invest in oil. We never knew what happened to him. She thought the photo could be John H. Christian, or perhaps Lawrence. Everyone who knew about them had died. She does not have much information about the brother(s) who went to Oklahoma. At one time they said 3 brothers had gone.
Have you heard any stories like that?
Sincerely,
Bronwyn

Hello, Terri,
Good to receive a response. I would like to know where the "George Washington Chrisian" name came from. This is the name of my ggrandfather, who lived in Irving, Montgomery County, Illinois. I remember him as a small child. He was married to Matte Hartman then Hazel Stewart after Matte died.
I want to ask you about the dna testing for the Christian family. Where is that web site?
Thank you,

Kentucky and Tennessee are close as are Alabama and Mississippi. I am passing this info on to my family historian as this connection between the two Christian families and the Washington's may explain the rest of my family history. There is definite relation according to Christian/Washington DNA. Searching sideways does get results!
Happy hunting...

Hello:
I am looking also for relatives of Matthew Campbell Christian in Kentucky. John Christian in KY m. Keziah Cook 1799 and moved to Montgomery County Illinois where they were buried. I think the arrived about 1829. Thomas Christian M. Grantham is also a relative. William Christian m. Nancy Whitaker. John m. Caroline (Morrell, I think) accurate dates:
John H. Christian b Dec 20, 1844 d. May 28, 1891 age 47, m. Caroline b. May 29, 1841 d. Apr 12, 1923 in Montgomery Co., Illinois. Campbell Christian is buried in the same cemetery as John and Caroline. The 1880 census states that John's parents were born in Tennessee. This is where I am lost. I also have a grandfather (son of John H. Christian) whose name is George Washington Christian.
Sincerely,
Bronwyn Castillo
