Still looking for the burial place of Lavina Christian and husband William Coleman. Somewhere around Tazewell or Pocahontas, Virginia. I think Lavina died in 1976 not sure. Annie
I am researching Rev. William Wycke (or possibly Wyche) CHRISTIAN, born April
3, 1803 in Mecklenburg County, VA, died November 15, 1848, in Carlowville,
Dallas County, AL. It appears that his father was George CHRISTIAN, died June
14, 1831, in Wilcox County, AL, and that his mother was Frances WYCKE.
William CHRISTIAN married Rhoda Goodwin REESE on April 3, 1830. They were the
parents of Frances Willeminia CHRISTIAN, and at least two other daughters.
Frances married Lodowick Hill ROBISON, and another sister married his brother,
John Lark ROBISON. The sister died, and J L ROBISON married a third CHRISTIAN
sister. They all lived in the same house in Forest Home, AL.
Any information on William and his parents would be greatly appreciated. We
have been stuck at this brick wall for many years in out research.
Thanks in advance.
Best wishes,
Gil Robison

I have access to Ancestry.com and have put this information together based
on files found there including birth certificats listed as female/male Mull
for who I believe to be Annie and Charles Louis showing them as the 7th and
8th children. Census records and the Social Security Death Index.
I was reminded today that I have not done this in awhile, so here goes.
First off please read the following directions carefully in order to make to
make the most of the opportunity. We are going to do what is called "Roll
Call", and that basically means I am encouraging everyone to remind us of
who you are looking for. I don't usually cut off the roll calls since are
lists is not that big or that buys. I will probably do another one Jan or
Feb since we tend to get a new group right after the holidays. Please be
patient if someone does not follow the rules perfectly they really are for
your benefit more then any thing else. Remember the basic idea is to see if
you have a cousin out there you haven't yet met or someone who might have a
resource they can help you with. If you are trying to figure out if someone
has a lead that can help you ask, that is what the list is all about.
1. Do not "reply" to this email
2. Send your email to this list at CHRISTIAN(a)rootsweb.com
3. Please make the most of the subject area
4. Be clear and details without giving us the your entire history. It is
best to keep each email to one to two families, you are usually only looking
immediately into one to two generations. Send another email if you have
another family
5. Let us know what you know and/or what resources you have available to you
(ie Ancestry.com) this will eliminate people researching where you have
already, for what you have already have or have not found.
There is a method to all this
First if your subject is not clear then you might miss your intended target
since they might delete the email thinking either it does not pertain or
they don't have time to weed through the emails, so I suggest your subject
should look something like this (remember that we are all researching
Christan, so that is not needed).
Matilda > IN, IL, KY, OH 1850 > 1900
next give us as much as you can without overwhelming us (remember we are all
busy & it might become hard to follow if you do too much in one email), so
something like this would be good

Paul,
While I have looked for some of my DEES family in Macoupin County, and
traced a branch of my CAMPBELL family thru the Macoupin area, I have no
recollection of any of my CHRISTIAN researches taking me there.
I do have some connections between my DEES family and the GREEN family,
prior to 1800 - in North Carolina, then thru Tennessee and Kentucky into
Southern Illinois [enumerated in Randolph/Kaskasia in the Illinois
Territory in 1810, the part which became Pope County with Statehood].
By 1830 some or the DEES and GREEN family groups had moved north into
the Franklin/Jefferson/Washington County Illinois area, while others
moved to the Macoupin/Madison County area.
I do not show a connection between any of these families and the
CHRISTIAN family, but have not tried to trace the GREEN family back from
1800, as it is a collateral line for me.
So, No - I have no research on the CHRISTIAN family in Macoupin County
area, but I do know of at least 1 or 2 CHRISTIAN family groups that went
to the Saint Louis, Missouri area during this same period [1830 to
1880].

Velda,
As I said, I have traced part of the various CHRISTIAN families in Jefferson, Franklin, Washington, and Perry Counties. I have not traced any thru Randolph County.
However, I still wonder about the dates. Much of the research I have done on the CHRISTIAN families in those counties covers the years 1850 thru 1900.

Velda,
You also might want to consider checking out the Southern Illinois sites. I
don't know the codes for the counties you mention but they are likely
ILRANDOL(a)rootsweb.com and ILOVERTO(a)rootsweb.com, since they ones I am on
seem to have the six first letters of the counties names with IL in front of
them. You need to still send the original email to the site -request (ie
ILRADOL-REQUEST(a)ROOTSWEB.COM) and then the other emails to the sites above.

My Grandmother, Sarah Perry Christian, lived in Jackson County, IL and
Randolph County, IL, but was born in Overton County, TN. Does anyone have
any information on her family? I have books by H. C. Christian and Tim

Turner Christian (b. 13 July 1750 in Va., d. 1833 in Dewy Rose, Elbert Co., GA) had two wives. By Anne Payne he had sons Charles Woodson Christian (b.1778), William Payne Christian (b.1781) and Jesse George Christian (b.1782). These sons and offsprings are well identified. On 6 Oct 1788, Turner married Elizabeth Penn Leake(daughter of Phillip Penn). She had previously been married to a Leake. In "Christian of Charles City", Eunie Christian Stacy presents evidence based on deeds and census records that, if true, would indicate that Turner had many children by Elizabeth, all of whom remain unidentified. There is no evidence of a will or probate for Turner. No family bible has been found, even though existence of one has been reported and I have tried to track it down. There are no inscriptions in the family cemetery other than a vandalized stone that supposedly is for Turner. Eunice suggests a list of possible children based on marriage records in Elbert Co. of Christia!
ns that seem to have appeared out of nowhere. On the list is Ann P. Christian who married Walker Fitts, 8 Jan 1824. I am researching Elijah L. Christian who was married 3 times in Elbert Co. so is on the list 3 times. His last marriage was to Mary Jane Fitts on 9 Apr 1832.
I question that Turner Christian (1750-1833) had a middle name. None of the deed records for Turner Christian show a middle name of Hunt, however, there is evidence of a Turner Hunt Christian from Elbert Co., who died in Indiana possibly in the 1850's. In the Court of the Ordinary in Elbert Co. on 2 Feb 1858, Marion M. Christian requested to be assigned administrator of the estate of Turner Hunt Christian "late of Indiana". On 9 Aug 1858, he was appointed to administer Turner Hunt Christian's estate. Turner Christian (1750-1833) supposedly was buried in Dewy Rose, Elbert Co. in 1833 at the age of 83. It is unlikely that he was the Turner Hunt Christian "late of Indiana".
Also, in the 1820 Georgia Land Lottery, lot 109 in the 13th district of Early Co. was awarded to Turner H. Christian, resident of Webb's District in Elbert Co. Lot 141 in the 28th district of Early Co. was awarded to Turner Christian, Rev. War Soldier, resident of Webb's District in Elbert Co. I have copies of both certificates from the Georgia Archives. I don't know if these are the same person or if this indicates that Turner Christian had a son named Turner H. Christian with each winning land in the 1820 Land Lottery.
Elijah L. Christian was born 28 July 1794 so he easily could be a son of Turner and Elizabeth Christian. This could also mean that he was a full brother of Ann P. Christian.
I'm sure I speak for all of us dangling Elbert Co., Christians when I say that we would be thrilled if anyone has insight into the mystery that Turner Christian presents.

Hi, Annette.
I don't believe Anna Payne Christian was the daughter of William Payne Christian, but rather his half sister, daughter of his father, Turner Hunt Christian and second [or subsequent, at any rate] wife Elizabeth Penn Leake. Turner Hunt's first wife was Anna Payne, and in that era it was customary for the first daughter of a second marriage to be named for the first wife. I have numerous instances in my own line. Turner Hunt Christian would have been only 58 at the time of Anna's birth.
William Payne Christian is my ancestor. He was married to Sarah Maxwell 04 Feb 1807, and their first child, Thomas Jefferson Christian, was born 29 Dec 1807. As their other children weren't generally closer in age than about 18 months, I don't think it likely that Anna Payne was theirs.
I'd be happy to be convinced otherwise, though, if anyone out there has documentary proof one way or the other!

I have seen Edmund Christian on tax lists from Polk County, TN, thought he might be brother to my Richard Christian from Elbert Co, GA, who also moved to Polk Co before 1860.
If they are brothers, their parents were Robert and Margarette Christian. Robert's line goes back to Virginia to the Thomas Christian found about 1650 in the Colonies. I used this line for my Colonial Dames, XVIIth Century. There are some gaps, but this organization accepted my line.
Maybe we can exchange info and help both of us.
