Frank some other things you could look in to include things like ordering his Birth (if availale) and his Death Certficiate. Those are usually a lot cheaper then the SSDI which I did verfiy is $27. Do you have Arland's spouse and Children? I saw a family tree for him on Ancestry.com. Of course most of this stuff is just good places to start looking.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting

Frank,
Arland has a WW1 draft card. Have you checked to see if he has WW1 record? I don't rememeber how since I think only direct reoatives can still get WW1 records but you can check out www.NARA.gov
Name: Arland Christian

Birthplace: Ohio;United States of America
Birth Date: 19 May 1894
Race: Caucasian
Roll: 1832519

I also found a news paper cliping in 1937 with Arland and Irving listed as an Executor for Caroline, so there is likely a son Irving also. It states in there that she has a Will have you looked into getting a copy of the will yet?
Arland has a SSN so I would also order this record. Most of them list the parents on them. They are bit pricy though I think the current price is like $27.

this link should take you to page where you can generate a letter to do that. If not then let me know you want it and I will generate the letter and email it to you.
I can get you copies of the Newspaper clippings (there are 3 or 4) and WW1 registration card if you would like just send me your email address to LROBOAT(a)HOTMAIL.COM

This is a transcription of an obituary that a family member sent to me -- it appeared in the Versailles (Ohio) Policy. Rachel Christian was the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Dershem) Christian and wife of Charles Wesley Stover. Charles Wesley Stover was the son of Jonathan Stover and Nancy Hoover. Thank you to everyone on these boards who helped me find out more about this branch of my family.
-----
Rachel Christian, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Christian, was born September 16, 1854, on what is now known as the Henry Ballinger farm, East of Versailles, O., and departed this life at the home of her son Samuel on July 11th, 1935, aged 80 years, 9 months and 25 days.
When she was two years old, her parents sold the homestead and moved to Mercer County, near Celina, where they purchased a new home. Here they lived the life of the pioneer, living the first year in a half faced camp, until a log cabin was constructed.
When she was six years old, her father died.
When she was 15 years old, her mother brought the family back to Darke County to the vicinity of Webster.
In 1874 she was united in marriage to Charles W. Stover, and moved to near Gettysburg, O.
To this union was born seven children, four sons and three daughters. Her husband, one son and two daughters preceded her in death.
In 1879 she gave her heart to God, and united with the church of her choice the Brethren Church at Oakland, and has remained a faithful member through the years attending services whenever possible so long as her health permitted.
During her last illness she bore her intense suffering with christian fortitude but often expressed her willingness and desire to be called home to God.
She leaves to mourn her departure one brother, Samuel D. Christian; three sons, L. E. Stover of Bradford, O.; and Samuel and Walter of Versailles, O.; one daughter Mrs. Orion Trittschuh of near Versailles, O.; ten grand-children; three great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a kind and loving mother, a devout Christian, a good citizen, and will be greatly missed by all who were associated with her, especially by her family.
Card of Thanks: The children desire to express their thanks to the neighbors and friends for the kindness shown and assistance given during their time of sorrow. Especially do they want to thank Rev. Flory for his kind words of consolation and comfort, to the singers, to the donors of the flower offerings, and to all who helped in any way.

Pat is really possible that they just were not in the census. Either they were not home (ie traveling) or their house was missed altogether. Even today they do not get everyone.

Liesa,
The marriage record is, indeed, JTP and Pauline/a. Thank you for looking it up.
I still am puzzled about the whereabouts of JTP and family in 1870! Hezekiah and Susan are the two that I am following through because Susan married a Reams after Hezekiah died, and had at least one more child: my greatgrandmother, Eva Maude Reams.

Pat,
I am not sure who you have in the 1880 census so far but I did find (let me know if you need any of them) Hezekial age 24, Susan age 20, Luther age 2, Ida age 4/12.
Do you think this could be the James and Paulina?

Sorry nothing I could find in 1870 though and I did not see any marriage license that could be Ruth.

James Thomas Posey Christian was born c. 1815 in

I hope you are able to find them!

The 1880 Federal Census for Alabama names Ruth as his wife. She is 58, which would have been Paulina's age, too. The last two children were flagged because of the mother's age. Either one of them would have been 51 and 52 when the two were born.
Do you have any idea where JTP and family can be found in 1870?
I thank you for answering!
Pat
I failed to read your message close enough, to see you also ask about when
he married Ruth. That is new to me. I have that JTP Christian died 18 Jul 1881
in Youngsville, Al (Alexander City , Al.. JTP Christian is buried in the
Christian Cemetery 2 1/4 miles outside of Alexander City, however Paulina is
buried in a cemetery outside of B'ham, AL. I have a copy of Paulina Ann obit.
Bobby, I'm a male..My name doesn't reflect male or female. Ruth is
something else to resolve. Thanks a great deal for your e-mail.
I have that Paulina Ann Kennedy Christian was born, Jan.01, 1822 and died
May 09, 1891 in Tallapoosa County, (Youngsville) Alexander City, AL. I am
searching for the Will of JPTP Christian's father William Bradley (B.) Christian.
I have a strong feeling that it's in the area of Newton County, Ga. I would
like to get a copy of his Will to verify some information.
JTP Christian was my 3rd G grand father. I descend from Hezekiah Posey
Christian, my gg Grandfather. My grandfather was Thomas Jackson Christian. Maybe
we can exchange notes, I have been fighting this battle for many years.
Thanking you for your inquire.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information that I found while researching Orphan Trains. This comes from a webpage called "1880 U.S. Federal Census New York Juvenile Asylum - Tenth Avenue" The link for the site is listed below.
