jeanette,
actually, my husband and I, along with his sister and brother in law have
been talking about an IOM trip for some time and as recently as yesterday. Our
family line descends from Gilbert via Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Please keep us in mind if a trip actually makes.
Do you know there is an Isle of Man website?
Linda and Robert Christian of
DeSoto, Texas
Yes, our family is enormous isn't it? We should invade IOM !
Was your Benjamin Christian and Elizabeth Greenup connected to Wayne County,
Kentucky?
Thank you for your reply - jeannette
Hugh - the only info I have is what terribly generous people have given/sent
to me or I have stumbled upon online. This William is the one that was
condemned without a trial and executed while in command of the insular militia.
He was wrongly accused of several acts pertaining to the opposition of the
Earle of Darby and was shot at Hango Hill.
I believe the ballad(s) they sing are stories of how he tried to defend his
country. I will try to find the words for you if you are interested. Thanks
for your reply - jeannette
Hello - my Christian family traveled thru and down the Shenandoah Valley a
few years after they arrived in the US and then into Tennessee and Kentucky. I
was wondering if any of you have actually been to Ireland or Isle of Mann to
do research there on the Christian family? I would like to actually see the
old documentation and hear the music they still sing about William Christian.
I would like to plan a research/sighsee trip in the next 12 - 24 months with
a group of family members. I would have to start from scratch but we would
have plenty of time to research and plan - especially if any of you would be
into a return trip and have any tips to share . . . . jeannette
I think there is a wide range in the cost I have seen from about $75 - $150
but what it depends most on is the number of markers that are tested. You
can choose to go through with fewer markers in the begning and then add them
later without redoing the test if you want to. Less markers of course mean
less cost becuase they don't match as many charecteristics.

Hi all,
I have several Uncles who are direct decendants of Gilbert Christian (born c. 1677) and Margaret Richardson of Virginia. I am a direct decendant too, but I get my Christian heritage from my mother.
Of course many people say that Gilbert is the son of Patricius Christian from the Isle of Man.
I would like to know how much the test costs for the Christian DNA project.
my Lines:
Gilbert Christian b. 1677
Robert Christian b. 1712
Gilbert Christian b. 1734
George W. Christian b. 29 Mar 1769
George W. Christian b. 1 Apr 1802
George Worth Christian b. 12 Aug 1849
Luther Barlow Christian b. 20 May 1880
Edward Rosco Christian b. 15 Mar 1903
Edward Rosco Christian was my grandfather.
Sincerely, Joyce in Arkansas

Carey and others researching this line,
Do you have the census infromation on this family? I found Elizabeth in the
1850-1880 census in MO. If don't have it and would like copies let me know.
Here is some other stuff I found if you want more details on any of it let
me since I did not copy the full record (ie download the census record,
etc.) just the part that came up on the search.
Happy Hunting and Hope this helps some,

This family has given me several brick walls. Andrew Christian Sr, d circa
1795 in VA. He had 6 children:
Frances, md Robert Chancellor 1784 Goochland, VA.
John b 1752 Hanover Co, VA d 1792 Lexington, Fayette, KY
William b 1758 Hanover, d 1828 unknown location
Andrew Jr. b 1761 Hanover, d Fayette, 1837 KY
Jacob b 1763 Hanover, d 1813 unknown location
Peter b Hanover Co, d 1812 unknown location
Now my second brick wall concerns Elizabeth "Betsy" daughter of Andrew Jr. I
have documented evidence that she had 11 siblings, but who are they??
Somewhere around the 1840s these 12 siblings were living in Kentucky, Indiana,
Illinois, and Missouri.
Betsy was born 29 March 1795 in Virginia. Betsy married Peter Frazier in
1812 in Prince Edward County, Virginia.
Now I have been in contact with 3 or 4 people who know about the Andrews and
about Betsy, but none of them know her siblings. So, can anyone help with
Andrew Sr-who was his wife, when was he born etc. Also, can someone tell me the
names of Betsy's siblings? Thanks so much, Linda J Fleming

I found one Christian there from the Isle of Man at this location, but none
from the Thomas line. My line "daughtered out" in this generation, so I
don't have anyone who can send in a DNA sample. I don't know how many Christians
from the Isle of Man have done DNA tests.

I have more than 1 of that name in my data base ... any dates to help? marriage?

I have Eleanor Kewly for the spouse of Thomas Christian the immigrant but
have heard other names but no positive proof.
There are a lot of family histories about Thomas online but no proof, some
of them give his father as William Christian again no proof.
DNA would be good but who do we know on the IOM to compare with, there are
lots of Christian there.

Kay, your suggestion of DNA testing is a good one. Unfortunately, on my branch of the family tree, the male Christians have died out and had only female descendants or were childless.
However, there should be plenty of males who are direct descendants of the Thomas Christian in question and some from the proposed father Nathaniel as this is the line that has been documented back to the Isle of Man. Wouldn't it be great to make a definite connection between the two?
I know there are several family DNA project going on and I wonder if there is one for the Christians. Maybe this list could be the genesis for such as project.

Good suggestion. The Thomas Christian is the immigrant to Virginia (during
the 1600's, probably from the Isle of Man)--I don't think anyone knows the
name of his spouse. George M. Christian, b. 1809, was married to Sarah Jones.
