Arlie C. Christian
Posted: Monday, Sep 12, 2005 - 02:42:54 pm PDT
COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE.
Arlie C. Christian, 89, Ephrata, passed away at Columbia Basin Hospital on Thursday. He was born with a twin sister in Surgoinsville, Tenn. Nov. 12, 1915. His parents left Tennessee and moved west to Ellensburg when he was six months old. His father was a farmer. Arlie attended school in Ellensburg and graduated high school in 1934.
Arlie married Grayce Calkins in 1938 and lived in Ellensburg for a short time and later moved to California where he worked in an auto body shop. When he moved back to Washington, he lived in Seattle, where he worked for Boeing Co. before being transferred to Ephrata. He had a soft fruit orchard and later raised hay. He had farm stock and horses until his retirement, always being a farmer at heart and raising a huge garden that would keep his family and others in fresh produce. He worked for Grant County Road District and was manager of the Washington State Liquor Store in Ephrata, where he retired.
Arlie was a 60-plus member of the Odd Fellow Lodge in Ephrata. He was a member of the Rock Hound Club and always worked at the Grant Count Fair and Grant County Museum during the Sage and Sun Festival. He was a Charter member of the District 13 Firefighters for many years. He loved golf and belonged to the Lakeview Country Club for many years. In his later years, he and his golf partner, Walker, played on the small golf course at Oasis Park in Ephrata. He was also active, before retirement, in the Sheriff's Posse. Arlie and his wife were active as volunteers at the Senior Center in Ephrata as well as the Senior Center Thrift Store. He put many miles on his pickup picking up and delivering for the Senior Center and Thrift Store.
After retirement, he and his wife, Grayce, enjoyed traveling with their trailer and rock hunting. Arlie made lovely jewelry out of the rocks they hunted, setting them in silver. They also traveled to Mexico and to many places in the United States with their Airstream trailer, making many trips east to Tennessee to visit with family.
He is survived by his wife Grayce; daughter Arla Mae Deycous and son-in-law Don; granddaughter Sandy Ledgerwood and husband Scott of Shoreline; three great-grandchildren: Ryan, Bethan and Ian of Shoreline; three brothers: Mel Christian of Yakima, Dave Christian of Ellensburg and Ed Christian of Ellensburg.
His parents Gale and Phoebe Christian; grandson Ed Deycous; sister Edna Blades and his twin sister, Elizabeth, preceded him.
There will be no service.

&they had:

Jeanette b. 1842
Harriet A. b. 1846, married Simeon Wyman buried Lee, Oneida County, NY they had: Flora, George, Matie, Lilly, Samuel
Quaker Cemetery-Route 26, Town of Lee / Wyman, Simeon T. 1838-1926 / Wyman, Harriet A. (wife of Simeon T. Wyman), 1845- (Jul. 3), 1893.
Eliza Ann DICKERSON
Sex: F
Birth: 16 NOV 1816 in Herkimer Co., Norway, NY
Death: 18 SEP 1864
Father: Braddick Dickerson II b: 8 FEB 1790 in England
Mother: Pheba Hall b: 18 DEC 1794 in Scotland
Marriage 1 George Brown b: FEB. 13, 1816
Married: in Shuyler, NY
Children
1. Mary Jane Brown
2. Harriet Brown
3. Jeanette Brown b: 11 MAY 1842
Then Lydia Brown, d/o Charles & Ann (Christian) Brown & sister of George m. William Dickerson:
Lydia b. 25 March 1814, married William Dickerson b. 1811, Lydia Brown, died 30 Jul 1898.
They had:
George b. 1834
Nancy Willis b. 1840
Rhoda Ginny b. 1843
Information on William Dickerson.
William DICKERSON II Sex: M Birth: 25 NOV 1811 in Herkimer Co., Norway, NY Death: 2 MAY 1891 in Rome, NY Reference Number: 1056
Father: Braddick Dickerson II b: 8 FEB 1790 in England
Mother: Pheba Hall b: 18 DEC 1794 in Scotland
Marriage 1. Lydia Brown
But, per obit of William Dickerson, only George Dickerson was his child & the girls were step daughters:
Record #474, Town Clerk's Office, Lee, NY:
Nancy M. Sweatman, daughter of William Dickinson and Lydia Brown, born in Auburn, died 17 March 1905 in Lee Center at age 65 yrs, 1 mo, 2 days. BUT, this says she is the d/o William?
Buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
STEP-FATHER: Obituary from Rome Sentinel - May 4, 1891 - William Dickerson, died of consumption at his home, 324 W. Whitesboro St. (Rome) Sat. afternoon in his 89th yr. Born in Norway, Herkimer County, Nov. 25 1811, moved to Lee in early manhood.
Survivors: wife, two STEP-daughters, Mrs. Timothy Sweatman (Nancy) of Ava (Oneida County) and Mrs.
George Palmer (Rhoda Ginny) of this city (Rome). His only child, George Dickerson, died last Sept.
Nancy always went by the middle initial "M". See 1850 Census where her name was given as Nancy Willis. Could Willis be her birth name?
OBITUARY: Rome Sentinel, March 17, 1905 - Lee Center - Mrs. Nancy Sweatman, wife of Timothy Sweatman died at 10:30 am here today, aged 64 yrs. She had been ill about three months with a complication of diseases. She had been a resident of the Town of Lee all her life and had
lived in this village four years. She was a member of the M. E. Church and was very active in the work of the church. All who knew her held her in high esteem. Besides her husband, seven children survive. Zenas S. of Fultonville, Mrs. Lyons of Philadelphia PA, Mrs. Frank Grimm of Rome, William Sweatman of Lee Center, Mrs. Belle Dietrich of Idaho, Roscoe and Charles Sweatman of Belmont NH.
So, who is the father/s of Rhoda Ginny & Nancy Willis Dickerson? was it a blended family. If so, who was George Dickerson's mother? Was it Lydia Brown, if so how did she have the girls later? Did they adopt, take in (foster) the girls?
Very confusing obit.
Cousin,
Marilyn

Thanks for your reply. It sure sounds right. These folks are in a distant branch of our family tree. I am researching because I was given a photo album. I have photos of "Uncle Rodman Christian" and "Aunt Frank Christian". No dates on them, however they were printed by a photographer in Syracuse, NY. Our more direct family line is the Davis family of Port Byron. I can post the photos.

Hello Lynn,
I don't know if Alfred Rodman Christian is Uncle Rodman? I only list his book as a source. I have never seen his book.
I have a source that lists:
Alfred Rodman Christian was born 12 Oct. 1829 to John Christian & Ruth Sweet. This is my line & they lived in Cayuga County, NY.
Alfred Rodman Christian died 03 Dec. 1906.
He was married first to Frances (Aunt Frank?) M. Hadger on 21 May 1862, then he married 2nd Isabella Hadger on May 1st, 1906 (maybe a relation to his 1st wife? They were married less than a yr).
I have earlier Christian family history, if you think this is your family.
Note, I have found the living descendants of Mary Ann WALLIN (on her death cert. they spelled her maiden name WALLACE) & Horace John Christian & their 4 children.

Please sign the petion below to help us get the promised file that will help us preserve and protect the Connally Cemetery In East Point Ga..
Some of the burials are CHIRSTIAN .
We are the East Point Heitage Foundation and we are volunteers that protect the Cemeteries of East Point Georgia.
A file containg information that will help us to protect the cemetery was promised, timing is urgent but the party that promised to hand it over has delayed us for 5 months. We contact them and keep getting "When I have time". The manner is simply me driving over to pick it up, not a problem where more time is needed.
I am hoping that the petition will shake this file loose so that we can use it to protect the cemetery, issues are present that put this cemetery in danger and the information would help in advocating for it's continued safety.
Please sign the petition with a very kind request, maybe a wake up call as to how important this issue is for the party holding it.
