This grave is in the old Harris Cemetery at Akron, Alabama. The cemetery is
off Raspberry Road, which itself is a turn off Hale County Highway 21. Just
a short distance down Raspberry, there is a white church building (no name
is on the church building). Turn left at the church building onto a dirt
road. The cemetery is at the end of the dirt road. My e-mail address is:

Christian, William Grady
William Grady Christian, 89, of Neel passed away from this life and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 21, 2005. Funeral services will be today, July 23, 2005, at 2 p.m., at Walden Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Crumpton and the Rev. Wayne Voss officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in the Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Christian was born July 29, 1915, to John Wesley Christian and Haughty Howell Christian in rural Lawrence County near Hatton. He was one of 12 children. After his mothers’ death, when he was eight years old, his father moved the family to Austinville near Decatur and then to the Liberty Community where he lived until 1959. He then moved his own family to Neel where he resided until his death. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Minnie Hill, Lily King, Aline Jackson, Annie Corum, and Elizabeth Christian, and by brothers, Monroe, Louis, Lonnie, Luther, and Leonard Christian, and was married to Ruth Moore Christian until her death.
Mr. Christian worked for 38 years at Decatur Iron and Steel until it closed, and then retired at age 70 from Metco in Hartselle after working there 12 years.
Mr. Christian was a faithful lifelong member of Walden Chapel Baptist Church, where he was the oldest surviving member. He served the church in many capacities from the time it was just a “Brush Arbor” until he helped move the old church to its present location. He served as Sunday school director for 16 years, doing everything from cutting the grass to taking his vacation to coincide with vacation Bible school so that he would be able to help. Presently, he was still serving as an usher and a prayer warrior.
Mr. Christian was a hard worker, a generous person, sharing what he had with others. He loved God, family, friends and gardening, in that order. He enjoyed life, but most of all he enjoyed sharing with other people about Jesus, often telling people he was a “double-barrel Christian” — “My name is Christian and I am a Christian.”
He was the devoted husband of Gladys McCormick Christian, to whom he was married for 56 years, beloved father of David Christian and Joyce Christian Walker and husband Buddy of Neel. He was treasured by his granddaughters, Kelly Walker Holladay of Neel, and Kimberly Walker Young and husband Michael, of Simpsonville, S.C., and loved by four great-grandsons, Christian and Carson Holladay and Walker and Peyton Young, and by a sister, Clara Walden of Neel, by a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Ronald “Bubba” McCormick, Delane McCormick, Michael Young, Steve Schrimsher, Windle Holbert and Herchel Clemons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bo McCormick, Tom Campbell, J.W. Franklin, Clinton Simmons, Nathan Hill and Clydis Christian.
Mr. Christian will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of Hartselle Medical Center who lovingly cared for him.
Published in the Decatur Daily on 7/23/2005.

Glenda,
I just found this old query. Mae Christian who married Loren Fullerton is my grandmother. I have not researched this family line very much, but may be able to provide some information with my Mother's assistance.

Was married to Edith Pelton b 28 June 1898- d 13 May 1995, Sauk Co. Heath Center, Reedsburg, Sauk Co., WI. They marreid 17 September 1932 in Detroit, Michigan. As the dates indicate, George died a few years after marriage. He was an accountant for the Wyandotte Chemical Co. in Wyandotte (Wayne Co.), MI when he died.. Edith was a teacher for years in Wyandotte and retired to her birth home in Baraboo, SAuk Co., WISC. She received a bachelors of Science from Wayne State University probably around 1920 or so. Trying to find out more about George and whether he or Edith were into music. We have a lot of family data on Edith's side of the family (PELTON). Thank you for your interest in advance. Pat
