It looks like there were two different and as far as I can find unrelated CHRISTIAN families in Missouri.
My Ggrandfather WILLIAM SKELTON CHRISTIAN is in the 1880 Lafayette County Missouri census with the following:
WILLIAM S 45 TN
ELIZA wife 40 TN
JOHN s 17 TN
MATTIE d 13 VA Married WILLIAM OLLER in Winlock in 1899.
WILLIAM F s 4 MO my grandfather, he is the only one that I have been able to track.
MARY E d 2 MO
This follows their progress after WILLIAM S was released from a Yankee prison camp at the end of the Civil War.
They came to the Oregon Territory in 1882 then to WINLOCK LEWIS COUNTY WA.

Julie -
You are missing one bit of vital information - geography!
I checked the 1880 census and can not find any obvious CHRISTIAN family
that fits your group. I notice that Agnas Fahrenwald was tallied in
Newton, Jefferson Co., NB. There were no CHRISTIANs in Newton and the only
CHRISTIANs in Jefferson Co., were of Manx stock, but no John or Frederick.
I checked a WorldConnect file and see that Arthur Clarence was likely born
in Oklahoma in 1910. The fact that Oklahoma was not a state until 1912, as
I recall, makes searching for "Sooners" very hard. By not finding them in
the 1880 census, I ASSUME they were likely in Oklahoma in 1880.
I have not had to search for Oklahoma information, but I am sure that
someone on this list has and can point the way.

no i do not but have sent this to my geneology friends as to ask if they know
if it is true or not in an email just today. I am sure someone will
respond..we will either get yelled at or
happy to know this answers :) B. A. Christian :)
Y'All -
This came to me from another list and you might find it interesting. It
sounds a bit far-fetched but a lot of other laws are equally so.
---------------------------------------------------------
Proposed Legislation Would Wreak Havoc for Genealogists and others, of
course!
A new bill before the U.S. Congress proposes to overturn one of the most
fundamental concepts of the present copyright laws. If passed, facts would
become copyrighted for the first time in U.S. history.
The Database and Collections of Information Misappropriation Act (HR3261)
would make it a crime for anyone to copy and redistribute a substantial
portion of data collected by commercial database companies and list
publishers. At first, that sounds like a good idea. However, a bit more
thought shows that nobody would be able to republish stock quotes,
historical health data, sports scores, or voter lists. In fact, a lot of
genealogy information could not be republished.
If passed, Google and all the other search engines would be crippled,
probably driven out of business. These are online databases that collect
information, or facts, from other online sites so that the user can quickly
find the information they seek. If Google and the others are not allowed to
collect facts that are now copyrighted, how will they be able to index the
Web for you?
Art Brodsky, spokesman for public advocacy group Public Knowledge, says the
bill would let anyone drop a fact into a database or a collection of
materials and claim monopoly rights to it. This would contradict the core
principle of the Copyright Act, which states that mere information and
ideas cannot be protected works.
Let's say that a commercial genealogy service such as Ancestry.com or
OneGreatFamily.com publishes the fact that your great-great-grandparents
had a child named John. Once that "fact" has been published by any
commercial service, that original publisher would hold the copyright on the
fact, and no one else would be allowed to publish it again. The Family
History Library, the New England Historic Genealogical Society,
Genealogical Publishing Company, and others would be prohibited from
publishing that information again in any of their online or printed works.
In fact, private individuals would similarly be barred from publishing the
information in their own derivative works. If a commercial site publishes a
fact about your ancestors, you would not be able to place that fact on your
own Web site or in any book or report that you give to others.
The language in this proposed legislation contradicts the core principle of
the present copyright acts, which state that mere information and ideas
cannot be protected works.
You can read more about this proposed legislation in Wired News at

Hi all,
This article was also written about in Eastman's
Newsletter. Eastman puts out a pretty good newletter
every Monday. There is a standard Free newsletter and
a paid newsletter (contains more articles). This comes
to my e-mail every Monday night. He keeps up to date
on legislative proposals and many other things.
Does anyone know if there is a concerted
Genealogist movement going around to stop this
proposal?
Sincerely, Joyce in Arkansas
Hello list,

I first saw them as two hardbound volumes at the Austin, TX state family research library. You may beable to get them through your local public library (tell them Austin has a copy) through the inter library loan system. I was able to get a copy of Bailey's book on Christian Families of the south that way. If you cannot do that, or just want a copy for your own research, I have put the 12 Volumes and the Index on CDROM by permission of the publisher. You can contact me at KENRJONELR(a)aol.com for more information on purchasing the CDROM. I am taking articles for a Volume XIII, if you are interested, please contract me for contributor's instructions.
Where in VA do you have your earliest ancestor, George? My Elizabeth Poindexter Christian Bankhead was a daughter of Archibald & Fanny Warren Christian of New Kent Co., and I believe I've seen mention of male kin with the given name of George.

Hi List and distant cousins,
First here is my lineage:
George W. Christian and Elizabeth McCormick
b 1769 VA b 1786 VA
George W. Christian and Celina Fisk
b 1802 TN
George Worth Christian and Louisa C. Turner
b 1849 TN b 1852 TN
Luther Barlow Christian and Lizzie Layne
b 1880 TN b 1885 IL
Edward Rosco Christian and Irene Lorene Kinman
b 1903 IL b 1912 AR
Edward is my grandfather. Now, I would like to ask
for help with obtaining a copy of George W. Christian
Sr.'s will proved 5 Sept 1871 in Overton Co., TN. I
wrote to the Overton County Clerk and received the
response that they did not have time to find and copy
the will. They gave me a phone number of someone who
lived in Overton County and stated that this man would
copy it for me, but I called the number that I was
given every day for two weeks and never did get an
answer. I'm sure someone here has a copy. I will be
glad to pay for copying and postage and handling for
this act of kindness toward a fellow Christian
descendant. PLEaaaasssseeee (visualize-I'm on bended
knees at this point).

Pam,
Have you read the article in the Christian Family Chronicles on Oklahoma Christian families, by Roy E. Christian, Vol XII, pages 1072ff? If you have, I would be interested in knowing if or how this line is connected to those early one. I notice that the family of the Satterfield's and Christian had some who married.
