Richard is a 10GGF to me on my father's side and an 11 GGU [via his
brother, John,] on my mother's side. I have not been able to find anything
on Katherine, but I assume, from their having been married in Southwark,
that she is not one of the IOM CHRISTIANs.
I made a search for St. Saviours, Surrey and find that in the Southwark
community there is a St Saviours and St Olaves High School in Southwark
and on a searchable map of London and environs of 1800's there is a St.
Saviours Dock - you can see that at:
http://www.bathspa.ac.uk/greenwood/map_e8h.html
There is a St. Saviour's in the C. of E. Diocese of Southwark in Raynes
Park, but it was new in 1906.
I guess that is TMI for your question. I would love to find Katherine's
parents!

John Christian (ca 1746-ca 1821), son of James and Susannah Christian of Albemarle County, VA (later some of their lands fell into Buckingham and Appomattox Counties) married Joyce ____. What was her maiden name? Did they have only one child, Susannah Christian who married John M. Walker? Is anyone researching this James Christian (ca 1718-1758) who married Susanna ____? Were James' parents named Charles and Rebecca (New) Christian? Susannah married second to Jeremiah Whitney after the death of James. Susannah died on Dec. 12, 1785 in Buckingham County according to a court case by descendants in 1821. These Christians do no seem to fit into the book by Mrs. Stacy.

I am looking for anything on James Christian that was my great grandfather. He was born May 4, 1866 I was told in Germany and Died March 4, 1960 and buried in Sulphur, Louisiana. I know he married Jennie Hebert from Jennings, Louisiana and died July 31, 1964 in Dayton, Texas and also Buried in Dayton, Texas (Liberty County). They were married on October 4th, 1899 in Opleousas, Louisiana in St. Landry Parish. I found James Christian in the 1920 Census that indicates he was living in Kinder, Louisiana in Allen parish which matches but it shows he was born in Colorado and we were always told he was born in Germany. He had 4 children with Jennie Hebert Christian "Lester - Dayton Texas, Jesse - Angelina Texas, Claude Christian - Sulphur Louisiana and a daughter Nola that I don't know anything about. If you know anything that will help please email me at byron.christian(a)levingston.com - Thank you

Hello
Could anyone assist me in finding more information about my great grandfather:
Frederick Christian, born on or near 1852. He supposedly married Catherine Voss in Newcastle, NSW on 22nd February 1882. A daughter was born in Sydney on 14th October 1891 (Harriet Christian - who later married Jacobus ter Metz and settled in Wahgunyah Victoria). Harriet's birth certificate lists Frederick as a 'seaman'.
We suspect that the birth records for Harriet have been falsified. This could involve the names of BOTH parents (ie including 'Frederick Christian'..which could have been an alias deriving from the then contemporary King of Denmark).
Although 'Catherine Voss' is supposed to have been born in Newcastle NSW, there are no records in the registry of this birth. Nor are there any records in the online database of a marriage between Catherine Voss and Frederick Christian anywhere in NSW.
Harriet Christian's grandfather has said that Harriet's mother was a child of William Arnott family. However, verification is hard to find.
Yours optimistically

Barbara -
Your query was directed to Josh re: his posting of 5 Jun 2002 - headed as Family History. It is possible that Josh did not receive your query unless he is on the rootsweb.com Christian-l mailing list. I think Josh receives "replies" to his posting, if nothing else, or he may return to the post to check for replies. And, if he received your message with a different heading, he may or may not have realized that you were addressing him. You should open his original message and opt to reply to that message without changing the subject line. It will then be 'threaded' to his message.
Now, born in Chattanooga, were you! What is you Christian line? I was born in Chattanooga. Are you descended form Thomas the immigrant from the IOM? Are you a descendant of Charles L. (Leake?) & Susanna Williamson Christian??
