Hello All,
I'm seeking any information about or contact with descendants of Thomas Horace and Florence CHRISTIAN last heard of in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1923. Any help gratefully received.

Hi
I just thought i'd post this info and see what falls out of the tree.
SC-->FL
My g grandfather is Reubin Edward Hays (m Mary Caroline Bass). His parents
are Elijah Hays and, we thought, Salita Helveston, maybe called Lucy. I
stumbled across a file which lists his mother as Sally Caruthers.
Both his parents died about 1880. He was about five years old. His
definately known sibs are Virginia Roscoe, and Susan J. Eventually he wound
up in the house of Robert W. Hays and Lenora G. Caruthers (his brother or a
cousin). Whose own children are Eliza B, Robert D, Irvin H, Lulu L, L
Leroy, and Rosie. On a census there is also in the household two more
fosterlings which are listed as son and dau in subsequent years. They are
William Christian b. abt 1879 and Anna Christian b abt 1863.
Then I stumbled across this marriage application..... Does this info ring
any bells out there?

I doesn't look like there is a connection as My Frances SMALLWOOD married
Franklin Hubert CHRISTIAN I have a picture of them in their later years,
I am guessing them to be in their 70's and the picture was processed in
Winona, MN by the SMART PHOTO SHOP maybe someone else has photos processed
by this establishment???? that might give a time line??? The back of the
picture has written on it "Frank and Fannie" "Grandma and Grandma" no date
nor location, another guess on my part I think it is a family reunion as
way far in the back ground you can see several cars and it is most definitely
a rural setting. Fannie's shoes are pointed.
Hi, I just joined this group today, and I'm here to take; not give.
That's because I have so little to start with. I am looking for the ancestors of Robert Leroy Christian, b. about 1918; married Florence Alma Moser 31 Oct 1936 in St John's Luthern Church, Reading, PA. Divorced about ten years later and remarried ???. Believe he was a son of ??? and Pearl Peters Christian.
Anything you can add will be a big plus. Thank you
Robert
Hello,
We have been working for some time to document our descendancy from Charles
Lawson CHRISTIAN, who was a resident of this county.
Can anyone provide confirming documentation where possible, and try to
answer the questions and concerns I have noted.
We have several pieces of information that suggest this descendancy, but
what we are missing principally are:
A copy of the Will of Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN from Amherst Co. Virginia;
An 1840 Census entry for the family of Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN (he did not
die until after the date of the Census in Jackson Co., Alabama);
Any property entries, or tax entries for the CHRISTIAN family between about
1812 and 1840.
I believe that with a couple of items we can confirm this descendancy and
get past this "brick wall".
This descendancy was listed in a DAR record of years ago.

You asked me once to locate the record on the difference in the last name of
Charles Lawson Christian's wife's name.
I knew I had it. I found it today in a spiral notebook of notes I took while
in Amherst County, VA. It was the Amherst County Marriage Book 1801 to 1854.
In 1812 Charles L. Christian married Susanna Williams. When the paperwork
was returned maybe by the minister, it read Wiliiamson. I have searched the
two names and I did determine to my satisfaction that one seemed more
logical. I will look further and tell you when I locate those notes.

Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN and Susanna WILLIAMS/WILLIAMSON had the following
children [based on the Census records as indicated, and as listed in Eunie
V's book, and elsewhere]:
Female child CHRISTIAN, born before 1820 (per the 1820 Census of Amherst
Co., Virginia), (gone from the household by the 1830 Census of Sullivan Co.,
Tennessee). [Unknown to Eunie V]
I believe this child to be Lucy Ann CHRISTIAN, born either 1813 or 1815 [I
have 2 different dated from 2 different references but personally believe
that 1813 is the more probable, as this would have made Lucy Ann 17 when
married to Green Berry. Kim].
Female child CHRISTIAN, born before 1820 (per the 1820 Census of Amherst
Co., Virginia), born between 1815 and 1820 (per the 1830 Census of Sullivan
Co., Tennessee). Listed by Eunie as Ann Elizabeth CHRISTIAN b. 1813 Amherst
Co., Virginia [This link seems tenuous from the information supplied, there
is no explanation how this child returned to Virginia to be married, or
documentation of the link to the family of Charles Lawson, other than the
name Ann Elizabeth, which is supposedly the "name" referred to in the Will
of Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN - said Will has yet to be found and scanned (I
do not want to trust someone else's transcription. Kim).]
Male child CHRISTIAN, born before 1820 (per the 1820 Census of Amherst
Co., Virginia), born before 1815 (per the 1830 Census of Sullivan Co.,
Tennessee). Listed by Eunie as:Asa W CHRISTIAN born 1814 Amherst Co.,
Virginia, and elsewhere documented as a son of Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN.
Male child CHRISTIAN, born before 1820 (per the 1820 Census of Amherst
Co., Virginia), born between 1815 and 1820 (per the 1830 Census of Sullivan
Co., Tennessee). Listed by Eunie as: William Henry CHRISTIAN born 23 Feb.
1817 Amherst Co., Virginia, and elsewhere documented as a son of Charles
Lawson CHRISTIAN.
Male child CHRISTIAN, born before 1820 (per the 1820 Census of Amherst
Co., Virginia), born between 1815 and 1820 (per the 1830 Census of Sullivan
Co., Tennessee). Listed by Eunie as: Lemuel L [Leake?] CHRISTIAN born 1819
Amherst Co., Virginia, and elsewhere documented as a son of Charles Lawson
CHRISTIAN.
Male child CHRISTIAN, born between 1820 and 1825 (per the 1830 Census of
Sullivan Co., Tennessee). Listed by Eunie as: Peter F [Ford?] CHRISTIAN
born 1822 Sullivan Co., Tennessee, and elswhere documented as a son of
Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN.
Female child CHRISTIAN, born between 1820 and 1825 (per the 1830 Census
of Sullivan Co., Tennessee). Listed by Eunie as: Judith L [Leake?]
CHRISTIAN born 1824 Sullivan Co., Tennessee, and elsewhere documented as a
daughter of Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN.
Female child CHRISTIAN, born after 1830 [need to find the family in the
1840 Census of Jackson Co., Alabama (referred to by Eunie), and verify this
child. Kim]. Listed by Jim CHRISTIAN as N S [Nancy Susan?] CHRISTIAN.
[TO DO: Find the Charles Lawson CHRISTIAN family in the 1840 Census,
reportedly they were in Jackson Co., Alabama then - headed by either Charles
Lawson (or Susanna?). Was there another child born after 1830?]

Notes for WILLIAM HENRY CHRISTIAN:
Served as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Army against the Seminole Indians in
Florida. He was born in Lynchburg Va. and came to Jackson County, Alabama,
to make his home in 1836. He married Martha A. McMahan, a member of an early
family of that name, near Stevenson, Alabama.
He owned a very fine piece of land along the east side of the Tennessee
River - from the railroad to the Tennessee state line. He built his home in
the community of Carpenter where he and Martha Ann has ten children.
He died in 1888, and was buried in the James Family Cemetery because of his
connections with that family (his sister, Susan, married Meridith Price
James, son of Samuel Price James (1795-1862).[Editing Note by K CHAPMAN:
The James Family Cemetery includes a burial for a M.P. JAMES 3-10-1839
12-19-1904 , but there is not a listing for a N (S) JAMES. If N S CHRISTIAN
married M P JAMES, and was approximately the same age, then she would have
been an undocumented daughter of Charles Lawson and Susannah WILLIAMSON,
probably born after the 1830 Census.])

deaths the family moved away and the estate passed into other hands. - from

CHARLOTTE
MITCHELL, 1837, Jackson Co., AL.
Notes for LEMUEL L. CHRISTIAN:
In 1819 the United States "purchased" Florida from Spain; no money was paid
to Spain, but the United
States agreed to pay American settlers for damages to their property
suffered during battles over Florida.
The territory of Florida was organized in 1822. As thousands of settlers
poured into Florida the Indians
continued to cause trouble. The Seminole had settled on the good farm land
in central Florida.
When the United States urged Indian tribes to move west, the Seminole
massacred Major Francis L. Dade
and his troops. This incident in 1835 started the second Seminole War. A
call went out for volunteer
militia and many from Northeast Alabama responded. Seventeen companies with
60 to 84 men in each
formed the North Alabama Mounted Volunteers commanded by Col. Benjamin
Snodgrass. The men were
mustered in 26 October 1837 and discharged 12 April 1838 at Turkeytown.
Three companies were
formed almost entirely from the Bolivar-Pleasant Grove area. Lemuel L.
Christian was a private in
Company K from Bolivar under Capt. Samuel M. Cowan, and William Christian
was listed as a corporal.

in the 1900 census, married to a Dottie B. Hellums Wilson. They married in
1899. Her second marriage. Had no children at that time. I am researching
the HELLUMS line. Dottie B. was daughter of William Henry Hellums and
probably Elizabeth SUIT.
We find Carl's family again in Johnson County, TX in 1910 with two children:
Irene, age 8 and Sebe, a son, age 6.
Have not located them in 1920 census nor any other records. I just recently
found a SEBE Christian who died in Creek Co Okla in 1969 and he was born in
1904 which is the right year. He was married to Marguerite Joe Steel who
died in Tenn in 1989. I do not know if this is the SEBE who was Carl's son.
Anyone know anything that might help me.
