Surname: Christian, Gross
-------------------------
I was rambling in my last message and mistakenly said that
Gross would have been grandparent to Mae or John Christian.
I'm sure I heard my ex-husband say Gross was the name of one of his grandparents,
not the grandparents of his parents who
were Mae and John. Mae and John's children said John was
a hobo during the depression. He worked in the coal mines
following his hoboing days. Mae was pregnant sixteen times.
She birthed thirteen children. One child, Bonnie Christian,
died when two or nearly two of pneumonia. The other twelve survived and
are all still living.

Surname: Christian, Gross, McIntosh
-------------------------
The information you posted in your message sounded so familiar. Unfortunately
I have no dates and all too few names. I'm researching the Christian family
for the sake of my children whose father is a Christian. He was the first
of thirteen children born to Mae and John Christian to have
been birthed in a hospital rather than on Cow Hollar (I always thought
this was Cal Hollar because of the way the family pronounced it). Both
Mae and John bore the Christian
surname when they married or that is what I was told. All the children
continue to go to their family home at least once yearly. It remains intact
on Cow Hollar. They make a pilgrimage to the cemetery on the mountain,
as well. I remember Bartley, Bradshaw, War, McDowell, the name Gross (grandparents
of either Mae or John), the name McIntosh, Mastin (a brother of Mae and
Minnie, perhaps), Jake McIntosh
(I met him and Minnie), and I met a brother of John's but can't recall
his name. I do so wish I knew more other than names of the offspring of
Mae and John and I wish I knew
more about Mae's Indian blood. It certainly seems as if
this is the same family though. My ex-husband has a sister who lives in
the same town as I. I could contact her to
inquire as to some of the names. Perhaps a rundown on all the brothers
and sisters of Mae Christian. She died just a couple years or so before
my Mother who died in 1998.

Surname: Odom, Spears, Christian, Wise, Haynes, Greer, Palmer, Sims, Thornton,
Peavy, Barnes
-------------------------
Chris, myggg-grandfather was Obediah Mask Christian (from whom my name
Obed has been handed down), who married Joanna Barnes in Franklin Co.,
GA, around 1810. He had a brother named Elijah Willis Christian, but I
don't know if this is the Elijah Willis that you referred to earlier. Obediah
Mask Christian was the son of Elijah Christian and Elizabeth Britt of Elbert
Co. I descend from Obediah's son, Elijah Osborne Christian, b. 1811, who
married Mildred Arnold Peavy in Marion Co., GA, around 1840. Elijah Osborne
and Milly moved to Claiborne Parish, LA around 1850, where they lived the
remainder of their lives and are buried in the Colquitt Cemetery. I have
read that Obediah's brother Elijah Willis moved with his family to Gonzalez
Co., TX. I have often wondered if George Christian, Lyndon Johnson's former
aide, is a descendant of Elijah Willis. George is still active here in
Austin as a political consultant, but I have never gotten around to contacting
him.
Sincerely,
O. W. Odom
Austin, Texas
Lewis Christian was born in conway county, AR. He married a woman named
Elizabeth b. 1828. They later moved to AL where my ggrandmother, Francis
Christian was born in 1854. Francis first married Buckner Walker in 1874 then
George Bond (my ggrandfather) in 1890 in Muldrow, IT. In the 1900 IT census,
Elizabeth is enumberated in the household of her son-in-law, John P. England.
I assume that Lewis had been gone many years as I fine no record of him in
OK. Does anyone know of this family? Francis had 2 sisters, Margaret and
Clara. Margaret also married a Walker, brother of Buckner, named Robert.
Clara married John P. England. In 1910 Margaret and her husband were living
in DeQueen, AR.
