Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Dear CHRISTIAN and FARMER cousins,
Found the following in my Rootsweb letter. If this works, it
will be a wonderful thing! No more typing in "FARMER" and
coming up with every census or text containing the text "FARMER".
Also, no more typing in the surname "CHRISTIAN" and getting
every "christian" song, etc. etc. I can't wait to give this
one a try. :)))

SURNAME HELPER <http://surhelp.rootsweb.com/srchall.html> is a
"surname only" search engine. "Surname only" means that searches
for "Husband" should only produce links to sites that have the
surname HUSBAND, not to sites where the word "husband" is used in
a sentence.
Surname Helper participating sites include the GenConnect boards,
among others. Surname Helper provides each participating site
with an index of surnames and a search page for just that site,
such as the surname index pages for GenConnect boards.
As of 26 April 1999, Surname Helper indexed 4,678 sites,
including 2,176 of the 3,098 USGenWeb county sites in every state
except Hawaii, 818 WorldGenWeb sites in 99 countries, and 949
surname sites with 247,961 surnames indexed for 2,413,023 items.

This info is for the persons interested in the Drucilla Christian/Thomas
Holland family... The Faubion list had posted some court records about
thomas' estate. Some folks had trouble looking for the Faubion archived
materials at rootsweb. I suppose the directions would be the same fot the
Christian archives there too.

The Archiver has arrived! Try it--you'll like it. The beauty of this
archive feature, and the difference, is that is searches all lists that
have been submitted for participation, not just the one surname. It's easy,
but does require a user name and password (to prevent spamming). All of the
lists I manage have been archived. The time frame is not for the complete
history of any of the lists, but they are working on that, also. Here are
the instructions:
>
> * * * * *
>
> NEWS AND NOTES FROM ROOTSWEB
>
>THREADED LIST ARCHIVES ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Now you can read
>122,813 messages from 877 mailing lists using your Web browser by
>visiting <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/>. All those messages are
>from just three months of beta tests -- watch this archives grow
>with its public debut.
>
>This is a remarkably comfortable way to browse through the posts
>that have been made to the lists. Be sure to use the integrated
>search engine to find what you are looking for.
>
>To use the Archiver you will need to pick a user name and
>password and you will need to accept a cookie. The reason for
>passwords and cookies is to keep spammers' e-mail address
>harvesters *out* of the archives. Because of this password-and-
>cookie feature, listowners can set up lists to be archived with
>confidence that they are *not* exposing posters' addresses to
>spammers. We encourage all RootsWeb listowners to visit the
>Archiver and then include their lists in the archives.
>
>The next step is to start making old list messages available.
>
>Thanks to Marc Nozell for implementing the threaded archives.
>It's great work.

The Faubion list has posted in the last 3 volumes of digest a very
interesting court case concerning the estate of Thomas Holland whose wife was
Drucilla CHRISTIAN. You who are interested should check out the Faubion
archives at Rootsweb .

Hello all.
I am hoping to connect with any desc. of Jane Hope, 1800-? who married
as her 2nd husband Walter L Christian on 11 Oct 1834 in Roane Co TN.
Jane was a dau of James Hope and Barsheba (Walker?)
Regina Roper
Is there anyone out there who would be willing to
look for an 1861 Elbert Co. GA will and / or obituary
for me? Do these records still exist or were they
lost or destroyed?
I'm researching William Payne CHRISTIAN who
died on 7 Mar 1861 in Elbert Co. GA. Unfortunately,
I don't know exactly where he lived in Elbert Co., so
I don't know what newspaper an obituary would be
in. The main thing I'm interested in is if he had
daughters name Lucy Jane and Eliza Frances, twins
born in 1819, and a son named John who lived near
Sandusky OH. Lucy married Nathaniel SHELLNUT
and lived in Carroll Co. GA and Eliza married Barney
WESTBROOK and was in Attalla Co. MS at that time.
I will be glad to reimburse copying costs. Thanks.
