Looking for any information about Frank CHRISTIAN c. 1890 (possibly OK).
Parents listed (in 1926) on marriage license as Lee and Mary CHRISTIAN.
Frank said at that time he was from Ottawa County, OK. Frank had children
named Annie, Frank JR., and Robert Earl L. CHRISTIAN.
I have looked extensively at OK Soundex to no avail. Am now branching out
into states with border OK.
Greatly appreciate any help.
Is anyone researching CHRISTIAN in Edgefield District, South Carolina in
the early 1800's. Were CHRISTIAN and CHRISTIE (various spellings)
different surnames or was CHRISTIE the result of poor spellings by census
taker, etc.?
Two early setters of Edgefield District, South Carolina, were suppose to
have been brothers, William Christian and Gideon Christian, Sr. from
Virginia. William Christian b. 1767-75 m. Tabitha House b. 1770 Brunswick
Co., Virginia. He died Edgefield District, South Carolina about 1807.
Gideon Christian, Sr. b. 16 August 1760 m. Sarah Morse/Morris b. 22 Sept.
1766. The previous information was sent to me by another rsearcher. Most
of their descendents seem to have moved elsewhere by the 1850 Edgefield
census or were women with different surnames.
I have Gideon Christian's will and estate papers from Edgefield
Courthouse. His dau. Sarah m. and died in childbirth by 1826. He died
before Sept. 16, 1821.
Trying to find out if the maiden name of one of my 2-greatgrandmothers was
CHRISTIAN and who her parents were in early Edgefield District, South
Carolina.
SARAH _?_(maybe CHRISTIAN) b. c. 1812-15 S. C. d. after February 25, 1883,
probably in Edgefield District, South Carolina. She married about 1834
WILLIAM CARPENTER, son of Adam Carpenter and Milly/Matilda (maybe
Sheffield), b. c. 1808 d. between 1860-80 in Edgefield District, South
Carolina. Adam Carpenter moved to Edgefield District, South Carolina,
about 1803-4 from Moore County, North Carolina.
Children of William Carpenter and Sarah (maybe Christian) Carpenter were
John(J. M) b. c. 1835 d. Sept. 15, 1915; Isham b. c. 1841-43; William, Jr.
b. c. 1844 d. before Feb. 25, 1883; Ed/Edmund/Edward b. Dec. 25, 1842
(census gives c. 1846) m.c.1884 Emma Frances Whitlock d. July 24, 1916,
Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia; Frances A. b. c.1849 m. before 1882
_?_Murphy; Adam b. c. 1852 d. after Feb. 25, 1883.
The only record that I have found after over 30 years of research that
indicates the maiden name of Sarah as being Christian is the death
certificate of my great grandfather, Ed Carpenter, where my great
grandmother Emma Frances Whitlock Carpenter gave the parents of her
deceased husband as William Carpenter and Sarah CHRISTIAN. Death
certificates were kept by the City of Augusta before being required by the
State of Georgia. Have much more documentation on Carpenters.

Thank you Wilmer for your Christian family summary for Amherst co. VA. I am
researching my Schermerhorn line in Henrico & environs. I've found that a
Sarah Christian Wilson married my 2greatgrandfather John Pool Schermerhorn
around 1815 and died 1822 at age 24 years. Children were: William Francis
"Frank" Schermerhorn and Mary Christian Schermerhorn. This Christian woman
may have been a widow before marrying but because she was born c. 1798 this
is highly unlikely. It is thought she was from Charles City County VA. Do
you have any suggestions or knowledge of this person or a connections
between Wilsons and Christians in Eastern Tidewater VA around Charles City,
James City area back towards Henrico? TIA for any help. W. Sterling

I want to find researchers who are interested in the Amherst County
CHRISTIAN family. Anybody out there? Here is a sketch of mine:
CHRISTIAN Family Roots, by Wilmer L. Kerns of Arlington, VA
22207-2914
The earliest-known ancestors in our direct lineage were George and Martha
(Bell) Christian of Amherst County, Virginia. George, who may have been a
son of James and Susanna Christian of Albermarle County, was born circa 1748
and died in 1784 in Amherst County. James Christian died in Albermarle
County (VA) in 1749, but he is not a proven parent of George. Based on a
will, it appears that George Christian had brothers named James and John.
Martha Bell, daughter of Henry Bell, was born Aug. 8, 1755, and died in
Nelson County, April 19, 1833. George and Martha were married Jan. 16,
1775. After George died, Martha married Capt. Stephen Watts, widower, Jan.
24, 1790. A complete list of George and Martha's children is not available,
but these children have been proven.
Children of George and Martha (Bell) Christian were:
1. Elizabeth Christian, born in 1778, and died June 26, 1854, in Buckingham
County. She married James Murphy, Sept. 27, 1804, in Amherst County.
2. James Christian was born in 1776 and died in July 1854 in Appomattox
County. He married Cordelia Watts, daughter of Capt. Stephen and Elizabeth
(Farrar) Watts, Feb. 28, 1795, in Amherst County. Cordelia was born about
1775 and died on Jan. 29, 1848. James and Cordelia were step-siblings.
They lived in that part of Amherst County that later became Nelson County.
Children of James and Cordelia (Watts) Christian were:
a. Stephen Watts Christian, was born circa 1798 and died Jan. 15,
1879 in Amherst County. He married Lucy Jane Christian, daughter of Mourning
Christian, in 1828.
b. Sarah M. Christian married Harrod B. Scott on Feb. 13, 1823.
c. Elizabeth Farrar Christian was born in 1799 and died May 26,
1859, in Appomattox County. She married Silas P. Vawter (1797-1866), on
Jan. 19, 1824, in Nelson County, Va. They lived at Bent Creek, Appomattox
County. Their two children were: Mary Jane Vawter (1827-1888) married John
W. Walton, and Dr. Benjamin Vawter (1832-1908), who did not marry.
d. Martha Ann Christian was born in 1805 and died in 1895. She married
Robert Beasley, March 25, 1833.
e. Amanda D. Christian married John A. Scruggs, March 9, 1836 in
Nelson County, Va. John reported to the courthouse the death of his
mother-in-law, Cordelia (Watts) Christian.
f. Charles W. Christian married Elvira Ann Willis, Oct. 28, 1833.
g. George H. Christian married Elvira M. Layne, Oct. 30, 1830.
h. James D. Christian Jr. married Eliza Horsley, who died in
Albermarle County on Aug. 3, 1837. They were Methodists.
i. Harston Christian
j. Rufus Christian
k. John Christian
3. (female) Christian married William Horsely.
4. Stephen Christian, of whom nothing more is known at this time.
5. Charles H. Christian was born in 1783 in Amherst County, and died July 4,
1856 in Buckingham County, unmarried.
6. George Christian Jr., of whom nothing more is known at this time

Looking for info on Marion CHRISTIAN. Possibly James Marion CHRISTIAN.
born 15 March 1847 in Maries County, Missouri. The 1860 census shows
Marion in Osage Co, MO working on the BURD family farm. In 1867 he
married Margaret BURD. Some stories say he went to MO via the Orphan
Train others say he was born in Maries Co, MO and then went on the
"Train" to Osage County where the BURD family took him in. Either way I
can find no information on him with a CHRISTIAN family. If his name
appears in any of your records please email me. We have no clue to his
background. April in OK
