CHRISTIAN CHRISTENNONSON, proprietor of Holmen Mills; was born in Norway, July 27, 1839; came to Wisconsin in 1860, settled in La Crosse Co.; bought 100 acres of land, made the improvements, and sold out and bought 120 acres; in 1876 bought the mill, which was built in 1875, now valued at $12,000. His wife, Mattie Knall, was born in Norway, Oct. 14, 1836; was married in 1862; they have seven children - Christian M., born Jan. 31, 1865; Augusta, born Aug. 4, 1866; Cora L., born Oct. 15, 1868; Alden, born April 13, 1871; Colvin, born Dec. 13, 1872, died Aug. 30, 1873; Morris, born April 3, 1874, and Alexander, born Jan. 22, 1876. He is a Lutheran in religion; in politics, Republican; Director of District No. 3; has been Treasurer and Pathmaster.

Leland Christenson passed away May 5, 2007. He was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Fish Creek, Wis., to Edwin Cornelius, and Clara (Demmin) Christenson and married to Dorothy Mae Miles at El Paso, Texas, on June 5, 1942. Leland was in the 8th Calvary from 1939 to 1942 and was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1942 until World War II ended in 1945. He retired from Peterson Builders, Inc., Sturgeon Bay, Wis., in 1984 after 31 years of employment. In 1997, Leland and Dorothy moved to Lake of the Ozarks, Gravois Mills, Mo. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., for 50 years and a member of First Baptist Church in Gravois Mills, Mo., since 1998.
Leland was preceded in death by his mother and father; one brother, Clarence Christenson; one daughter, Patsy Lee Chaplin; two grandsons, Kirk Christenson and Tommy Grondin; and one granddaughter, Melanie Hoeft.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his sister, Evelyn (Ed) Sandberg; two sons, Edwin Christenson and Dennis (Connie) Christenson; two daughters, Barbara (Jim) Radden, and Linda (David) Croft; 11 grandsons, five granddaughters, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services for Leland will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, at Nicolet Memorial Gardens, Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay, Wis., Cory Dahl, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Sturgeon Bay, Wis., officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Mausoleum Chapel.
