Leo Christenson, 85, of New Richland
Monday, July 31, 2006
The funeral service for Leo L. Christenson of New Richland will be at 11
a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland.
The Rev. Paul Andree will officiate. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Friedrich Funeral Home in
New Richland and one hour before the service at the church.
Leo died on Friday, July 28, 2006 at the New Richland Care Center. He
was 85.
He was born in Clarks Grove on March 18, 1921, the son of Hans W. and
Amelia (Jensen) Christenson. He attended country school near Clarks
Grove, and then served our country in the U.S. Army.
On Feb. 11, 1945, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Shurson at Trinity
Lutheran in New Richland, Minn.
Together he and Marjorie lived and farmed near New Richland. He entered
the New Richland Care Center in July of 2000.
He had served on the New Richland Towhsnip Board for 22 years, the
Richland Co-op Board for 28 years, and was also on the Waseca County
Zoning Board.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had served on the
church council and also ushered.
In his later years he enjoyed working with his draft horses.
Leo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie of New Richland, four
children: Gerald "Jerry" Christenson and his wife Carolyn of Hastings,
Minn., Loren Christenson of New Richland, Sheila Lutz of New Richland,
and Craig Christenson and his wife Gail of Geneva, Minn.; seven
grandhildren; Patrick Zittel and his wife Tracy of Cottage Grove, Minn.,
Doreen and her husband Johnathan Ohman of Northfield, Minn., Kevin Zittel
and his wife Shelley of St. Paul Park, Minn., Karen and her husband Jeremy
Atchison of Wyoming, Minn., Carrie Christenson of Waseca, Minn.,
Zachary Lutz and his wife Linda of Brookings, S.D., Collin Christenson and
Tory Christenson both of Geneva, Minn.; eight great-grandchildren: sister
Charlotte Dagner of Albert Lea, brother Howard Christenson and his wife
Pearl of Jacksonville, N.C. and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents two brothers, two sisters and
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
