I took a look at the records for James Christensen and found him (I think) in Bear River California in 1880. If that's the correct James Christensen then do you know if the Edlef and Andrew Christensen who were also living in Bear River in 1880 and then later in Oregon were his brothers? (Andrew in South Prairie and Edlef in Norway, Coos county) If so I have a possibility for you:
There was a family living in 1st Hostrup, Tonder Amt and then later in Ensted, Aabenra Amt., Denmark that consisted of:
Hune Christensen born 1816
Anna Cecilia nee Jacobsen, born 1819
Sara Dorthea Christensen, born July 18 1842
Christian Wilhelm Christensen, born Nov 27 1843
Edlef Christensen, born Feb 12 1847
Andreas Christian Christensen, born Mar 23 1848
Helena Catharina Christensen, born Mar 4 1851
Jens Christensen, born Jul 31 1854 <--------
Peter Christian Christensen, born abt 1853
Johanna Margretha Christensen, born abt 1856 (didn't look these 2 up)
I realize that your (?) tree has Jens birthdate as July 1st rather than 31st, but find the coincidence that Edlef, Andrew and James Christensen all from Denmark and all with birth dates that match the Danish records (at least month and year per the 1900 census records) and who all traveled to the US about 1869 (give or take a year ), and who all lived in Bear River then moved to Oregon just a bit much not to take a closer look at.....
Hope this helps,
J Murphy

I have been searching and searching for my Great grandfathers James A. Christensen. All I know is that he was born in Denmark around 1854, married Artie Sweet in California in 1882 had 3 daughters and a son Ella Winefred, Hulda, Leona, and Norm. in California and the Tillamook Or area. What did he do before he got married. All the censuses say he immigrated in 1860-1876 but cannot find him that way! HELP!

Mrs. Christensen has lived in Longmont for the past 27 yeas, was born in Denmark, coming to America when a young girl.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elich Demray of Firestone, and Mrs. Foster of Littleton; and three sons, Raymond, Fred and Jake, all of Longmont.
I do not see a find-a-grave memorial for Hannah.

Hi Lynda, It's been a month and no answer so perhaps someone else can help. What are the names of your great-great grandparents? Other info on them? Was your great-great-grandfather Christensen from Ribe, Denmark? FYI Christensen is a very very common Danish name, and Perth Amboy was thick with Danes, so the surname and location are not enough to connect these families.
from Family Search:
Carl Christian Meier Christensen
born October 21, 1871, Årre, Ribe, Denmark
FATHER Christian Christensen
MOTHER Anna Marie Hansen
>From Ribe amt, it's probably easier to depart Denmark via Hamburg. Do you have an emigration record for your great-great-grandparent(s)? His naturalization record, marriage record, death record, and/or obit may tell his parents' names and his birth place. These American records are usually necessary in order to trace someone from the USA back to Denmark.

It appears that Carl remarried sometime before 1930.
In the 1930 census, Carl is in a second marriage to Emily N., 53, b New York, parents b Denmark and living with daughters Kathrine 21 and Eleanore 19. Sons Nels C., Walter C., and Anders G. are nearby.
Carl built many of the building in Perth Amboy including: the Danish Lutheran Church, the Penn Street Catholic Church, and the Danish Methodist Church.

Thanks for writing!
QUESTION for you: Do you have a copy of the original of Pauline's birth certificate?
No you do not, but your cousin will search for it in Salt Lake. (Is that correct?)
QUESTION for you: Can you order a copy of the original of Minnie's death certificate?
Yes you have done that. (Is that correct?)
I can't imagine why you mention "New Sweden bloodlines"? Maybe the purpose of the comment is obvious and I am just plain flat out missing the point. If so, my apologies in advance.
Anybody could be genetically connected to anybody else in any time or place - in theory. Everyone on Earth shares one common ancestor who lived in about the year 1200 AD. The New Sweden colony with which I'm familiar existed four hundred years later, in the early 1600s on the USA East Coast. Just about any two people might possibly share an ancestor who located there. But who would that ancestor be? You'd find that out by tracing your family tree - by establishing a paper trail. You and I could be cousins, very distant cousins, via a connection there - but how does that help us find Minnie's birth place and parents?
These DNA tests are so intriguing that they have the tendency to siphon energy and focus away from the task at hand. Sometimes a DNA match is immediately relevant and revealing (e.g., a woman establishes paternity for her son); sometimes not. For example, two American men who share Y-DNA might share a male2male2male ancestor who lived hundreds or even thousands of years ago. If both descendants do not know where their male line originated in Scandinavia (or wherever), then the match is of no use in the search. Man #1 might have a grandfather who immigrated from Sweden, Man #2 might have a grandfather who immigrated from Norway, and the descendants are not going to be able to help one another locate the Swedish town or Norwegian town that is the birthplace of the grandfather in question. That's just one scenario - I'm steering away from Minnie's case and just giving you an example of the pitfalls of relying on DNA to solve the problem of origin.
About Pauline's birth certificate - really what I'm after is her full name. But all the records for all the children might show Minnie's name in various ways and that information should be gathered and posted. I am guessing you have some or all of this stuff....(their birth records, marriage records, death records, obits)? As for Minnie's death record, my goodness sakes, that might tell her parents and birth place. A good buy for $20 - heck of a deal compared to wondering about the millions of people who descend from someone who lived in New Sweden.

Thanks again! We are hoping to get better records in Salt Lake for her. In the mean time, I have been following some leads. I talked to another cousin who lived with her growing up, and the most interesting thing is that she did NOT have any accent. She also would not talk about ANY family at all. If she came to the USA at 14, she would still have retained one, so we are questioning her immigration claim. The other thing is I have matched DNA with someone who comes from strong New Sweden bloodlines. The DNA match is very high, but only to 2 of her family members, so it may help us refine where to look. I am working very hard on this, and am feeling much more confident we will find the answer to the age old question in my family....who is Minnie and where did she really come from. LOL

Hi again - So wonderful about finding your cousin.
Still wondering:
1) Do you have a copy of the original of Pauline's birth certificate?
2) Can you order a copy of the original of Minnie's death certificate?
