Roy M. Christensen
Roy M. Christensen, age 88, of Harborcreek, died Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Corry Memorial Hospital. He was born in Kearsarge on August 19, 1919, son of the late Martin and Jensine Christensen. Roy was a graduate of Edinboro State College and was on the Edinboro football team and a member of Phi Sigma Pi Fraternity. He was self-employed as a commercial artist and was the owner of ChriSigns until his retirement. Roy was a member of South Harborcreek United Methodist Church and past president of Wesleyville Rotary Club. He sang professionally in the Rita Doubet and the Four Men of Song Quartet and was especially known for his rendition of Ol' Man River. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking and spending time at the camp he built in Corry. Roy was a Major in the 4th Marine Division of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during WWII. He fought in major battles including Iwo Jima, Saipan and Tinian. Roy was a recipient of two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and a Com!
mendation from the Secretary of the Navy for heroism. He was active in many events in the Erie area and used his talents in artistic design, music and leadership in many community activities. Roy is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Jean Culver Christensen; four children, Daryll Christensen of Bradenton, Fla., Ireta Christensen (David Zadnik) of Green Bay, Wis.; Heidi Christensen and Kip Christensen (Jana) all of Harborcreek; one sister, Anna Nelson of Erie; four grandchildren, Chad, Chase, Tommy and Kole; a step-grandson, Preston; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Al, Harold, Jake, Walt and John and one sister, Margaret Melgaard. The family appreciates the friends and neighbors who lent a hand these past few years. Thank you to the staff at Heritage House in North East for taking care of Roy these past 8 months and a special thank you to the 1st floor staff of Corry Memorial Hospital for their kindness and loving care in his final day!
s. No calling hours will be observed. Friends are invited to attend a
Memorial Service at South Harborcreek United Methodist Church, 7929 McGill Rd. on Friday at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. Donald Hornsby. A Full Military Honor Guard will follow conducted by American Legion Carl Neff Post 571. Contributions may be made to a Charity of One's Choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road.
