The NARA has a proposal to increase the fees for a Civil War Pension file from $37 (which I always thought was too much) to $125! The proposal will be voted on April 27th. Please take a few moments to let them know that this fee increase is exorbitant. These records should be available to the public and at $125 a pop they won't be available to the public anymore.

Message Board Post:
Once again I am going to post this query, hoping someone can relate to it and come up with the answers I am seeking.
Some years ago I received copies from the Rev. War Pension Files of my Joseph Grover and in it were two letters to or from descendants who had asked about Joseph. But: to this day I still do not know how one of them connects to him.
The person in question is Dr. Estella Clark Carpenter, of Chicago. Since I had someone else do the look up for me in D.C. I received only her choice of papers to be copied and I do not have a copy of the letter that may have been in the folder written by Estella asking about Joseph and perhaps mentioning her relationship to him. I only have the response to her by the Commissioner in D.C.
When I posted my query last time, I received much information about Estella so I know her ancestry for a couple of generations backward but nothing to tell me where there is the Grover connection. Can anyone now come up with this link? Briefly: Dr. Estella was born Estella L. Clark 14 Sept 1867 in Osceola, Polk, Wisconsin to George Stilphen Clark and Eunice Godfrey; she died 26 Jan 1937 in Chicago; md. Dr. Francis E. Carpenter. I am wondering if she could be from one of Joseph's granddaughters which would explain the lack of the surname Grover showing the way back. Surnames I do have: Clark, Stilphen, Allen, Godfrey, Wright. I did find that Estella had a daughter Eunice who md. (Mr) Christensen in Chicago.

My father was Layne Joseph Christensen, a twin, born on Dec 13, 1928 in Pipestone, Minn. His father was Hans J Christensen, born June 9, 1894 and died in Los Angeles, Ca in Aug 30 1966. My name is Mike Christensen in the Los Angeles area, Rancho Palos Verdes. I did not know my father of grandfather so am relying on birth certificates and Ancestry.com.
