Carrol Marie Duke Christensen
Posted: Tuesday, Apr 25, 2006 - 01:16:30 pm PDT
Columbia Basin Herald. Moses Lake, Washington.
Carrol Marie Duke Christensen, 76, died peacefully at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane on Thursday April 20, 2006 at 10:45 in the evening.
Carrol was born the tenth of 11 children to Allen Parcell Duke and Florence Varley on Dec. 16, 1929 in Provo, Utah County, Utah. She spent her youth growing up in Provo, and ranked as one of the silliest and most mischievous of her siblings, a trait that followed her all through her adult years. Throughout her life, Carrol had a wonderful positive mental attitude and a great love for life. Carrol was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many callings in the Primary, Sunday School, Scouting and Relief Society.
On Aug. 25, 1953 Carrol married Calvin Thomas Christensen at the LDS Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. Living in Las Vegas, Nev. then moving on to Nyssa, Ore., again moving to Murray, Utah where her two sons were born, and finally in 1967 Carrol and Calvin moved to Moses Lake, where they have lived since.
Carrol's career was that of housewife and mother. She excelled at both, set gold-standards in each, and will be sorely missed. Carrol was described by those who knew her as "everybody's favorite Grandma." In her later years, as her health declined, she was extensively cared for by Marie Sabborit for whom she developed great love.
Carrol is survived by her husband Calvin; her sons Kimball and wife Melissa, and John and wife Lena; and grandchildren Samantha Renee, Ian Michael, Sara Rachelle, Cari Elizabeth, Mathew Lewis, E. Jameson, Holly Ann & Chandra Rae. Carrol is further survived by a brother, Allen Lavell "Kelly" Duke of Farmington, Utah; brother Kenneth Ray Duke of San Antonio, Texas; and a sister, Jennalee Swapp of Cedar City, Utah; and nephews Dr. Phillip Lance Allred and Leland Kay Allred. She is also survived by many wonderful friends who were like sisters to her.
Carrol was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, brothers Paul Varley Duke, Gordon Duke, Don William Duke, Pratt Eugene Duke, and sisters Helen Almira Deniz and Betty Ann Tanner.
Carrol's family expresses tremendous gratitude to those who have cared for her over the many years of her battles with diabetes and renal failure, including Ben T. Murrell PA-C, Curtis Wickre M.D., Jeffery Hartman M.D., all of the staff and her good friends at the RCG Moses Lake Dialysis Unit three times a week over the past seven years, and the wonderfully kind, understanding and caring staff and good friends at Hearthstone Inn in Moses Lake. Additional gratitude is extended to Craig Morrison of Kayser's Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake.
Viewing will be held Monday April 24, 2006 from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. at Kayser's Chapel of Memories 831 S. Pioneer Way in Moses Lake. Pre-service viewing will be from 9 a.m. till 9:45 a.m. and Funeral Services will be held Tuesday; April 25, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1849 E. Nelson Road in Moses Lake. Interment will be at the Provo City Pioneer Memorial Cemetery at 610 South State Street in Provo, Utah with a graveside service there on Thursday April 27, 2006 at 2 p.m. with the assistance of Berg Mortuary 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah.

A daughter of this pair married James Walter Nunley in Utah. Their son [Darrell] Jay Nunley was killed in action in Italy in 1945, and his widow and daughter moved to California. The daughter would like to be re-acquainted with her many Christensen "cousins."
